Rita’s POV

“He didn’t come to the office today” I said to myself after checking up on Finn for the zillion times that day.

“What’s wrong with him?” I hope he is fine? Why did he demand for some space? Is he going through something he doesn’t want me to know? What does he mean by whatever action he takes is for us?” I asked myself a lot of questions.

I had to take out my phone from my pocket and put a call to his number. His phone rang but he didn’t pick up the call.

“I hope everything is fine” I sighed.

“But what the hell does he mean by he needs some space when we are now engaged, is he trying to break up with me somehow?” I continued soliloquising until I mistakenly bumped into someone, the files I was carrying to submit to Finn and my phone fell and scattered on the floor.

I bent to packed them all but the guy did before me.

“Thank you” I said, thinking it is just a random colleague before raising my head up to see him. Charles.

“What the fuck are you doing here Charles” I voiced.

“What do you mean? I work here, have you forgotten?” He answered, handing over the files to me when we got up.

“I… I mean, Finn fired you”

“Oh, yeah he did and then, he retained me” He smiled.

“Why?”

Charles Chuckled; “I’m probably a responsible employee he can’t just let go of”

I didn’t say anything.

“Are you taking that to his office?” Charles asked.

“Yeah but I have not seen him today” I mumbled.

“Hmmn” He looked at his wristwatch;” It’s unusual for him to be absent”

“Yeah, did he tell you why he’s absent today, what else did he say after giving you back your job?” I inquired.

“Nothing”

I didn’t say anything, I just passed by him to continue going my way.

“Why not just drop the files on his desk? I’m sure he will check them out he’s here” Charles suggested.

“Oh, that’s right. I can as well do that” Somehow, I reasoned with him.

“Bring them” He offered to carry them for me.

“Thank you” I rolled my eyes and walked ahead of him.

We got to the office, I arranged the files on Finn’s side shelf, which was close to his table. I turned, only to see Charles right behind me, if I had trip, I’d fall on him.

“Excuse me?”

“Let’s go on a date” Charles proposed, wrapping his hands around my waist.

“You must be a day dreamer Charles” I said, disengaging from him and moving away. “I need to ask Finn why he retained you in this office, he made the biggest mistake”

“I’m sure Finn will be super excited that we are getting along again”

“Uhm?” I scorned and just tried to ignore him.

“C’mon babe” Charles hugged me from the back, his hands were around my waist again. “How can you just throw away what we had for months? Apart from the love we’ve shared, how about this moment we both wanted? I can’t believe I’m finally touching you and it’s not just fictional” He caressed my ass and before I got too carried away, I turned around and slapped him.

“What the heck Rita!” He exclaimed, rubbing his cheeks.

“Maybe now you’ll get it straight to your skull Zane! What we had then was nothing, it’s not gonna happen again, don’t touch me that way, how dare you!” I screamed at him.

“Zane, I was innocent and gullible back then” I spoke gently.

ing to put me in the mood too as he gently moved me to the couch.
