Chapter 115
Chapter 115
A pin-drop silence descended upon the room as the two figures pressed their chests against each other, their hearts beating furiously.
In the darkness of the night, the sensuous atmosphere made it hard for them to breathe.
“If you still don’t understand, I don’t mind explaining it to you with actions.”
As Evander’s deep voice echoed in her ear, he ran the tip of his finger across her lip.
The suggestive gesture seemed to have drawn Angeline’s soul out of her body, and she plummeted into a daze.
“Mr. Golding, don’t you think you’re being too flirty with me?”
“You were more flirty when you held my hand and refused to let me leave.”
When Evander’s magnetic voice reverberated in her ear, Angeline swallowed the words that were about to roll off her tongue.
“Mmm…”
The next second, his kiss fell upon her without warning. As her ears felt a tingling sensation when bathed by his breath, his kisses traveled from her forehead down to her neck.
Inside the quiet room, a faint click of a button being opened could be heard. With the top of her shirt undone, her porcelain-white collarbone was revealed.
Jolted back to her senses by the stinging chill, Angeline gasped as she frantically pushed him away.
“Mr. Golding, please mind yourself! I have no intention of being a home-wrecking mistress!” she exclaimed in bashful anger.
With her hand clasping her shirt tightly, she attempted to jump off the bed.
Evander was nonplussed when he heard that. Instead of being angered by her impudence, amusement and elation were what he felt.
Now I know what’s bothering her. The moment she responded to me, did I detect a hint of her interest in me?
With that thought in mind, Evander grabbed Angeline’s wrist to stop her from getting off.
“You’re not feeling well, so don’t move around. I’ll leave.”
With her lips tightly pursed, the blushing Angeline didn’t dare make eye contact. Nonetheless, her moral threshold caused her to retract her hand still.
Upon getting off the bed, Evander adjusted his tie with his slender fingers. Right before leaving, he informed her matter-of-factly, “I’ll be annulling my engagement with Olivine.”
Stumped by his words, Angeline felt her heart skip a beat as she stared at him in shock.
Why is he telling me something like this?
Before she could make sense of what was going on, Evander was already gone.
Staring in the direction he went, Angeline couldn’t help breaking into a smile as if a huge burden had been lifted off her shoulders.
Upon his departure, Evander whipped out his phone and gave Sylas a call.
He ordered, “Draft an agreement to annul the engagement.”
His instruction stunned Sylas. “Mr. Golding, are you sure? Old Mrs. Golding is going to be upset.”
“Mmm-hmm, just do as I say.” It was evident from Evander’s firm tone that he had made this decision a long time ago.
The initial rationale for their marriage was to find Floretta a mother.
Now that it was clear the latter resented Olivine and he had found an ideal candidate for his wife, there was no need for this sham of a marriage to continue.
Consequently, he hoped that his decision would allow Angeline to gain a better understanding of his feelings.
After getting a good night’s rest, Angeline felt much better. Aside from a lingering mild cold, she felt refreshed.
The moment she went downstairs to the dining room, she was greeted by the sight of Floretta—who had reserved a seat for her—waving excitedly and calling out, “Angel, over here!”
In response, Angeline hurried over and carried Floretta onto her lap. In a gentle voice, she asked, “Why haven’t you eaten yet? How long have you been waiting?”
“Just a short while. Daddy said that you were sick and needed more sleep, so he didn’t allow me to disturb you.” After explaining obediently, Floretta served Angeline a piece of cake. Giggling, she added, “This is my comfort food whenever I’m sick. I woke up early just to get one for you. Hurry up and try it!”
Staring at the cake, Angeline could see that the surrounding cream had been shaved off by Floretta, leaving only the most delicious part.
It was obvious that Floretta loved the cake but resisted the temptation of finishing it so that Angeline could have it.
“Thank you, Floretta.”
As her eyes reddened, Angeline felt a warm sensation fill her heart. “I’m sorry I wasn’t able to play with you yesterday.”
“Don’t be.” Floretta shook her head and looked at Angeline earnestly. “You were very brave, and I had a lot of fun.”
Her reassuring words diminished the guilt Angeline harbored. Eyes glistening with affection, the latter gave Floretta’s hair a gentle tousle.
For some inexplicable reason, she felt the urge to spoil Floretta, as if the latter were her very own child.
While she was lost in her thoughts, she soon saw the cheerful Jacob approach, holding a big plate of food in his hand.
“Angie, you’re awake. Has your fever gone down?”
“Yes, I’m feeling much better,” Angeline replied with a smile.
Upon hearing her words, Jacob hurried up behind her to hold her shoulders as he scrutinized her exposed skin.
“There are no scars. That’s good. Be honest with me, did that old pervert outrage your modesty last night?”
His words triggered Angeline’s memory of the kiss, causing her to blush in embarrassment.
Her ensuing silence elicited a nervous expression from Jacob, who responded with seething anger.
“F*ck, I knew he was up to no good. I should have gone along to take care of you. Tell me, what did he do to you? I’ll hold him accountable for his actions!”
“Calm down.”
Pulling him back, Angeline broke into a helpless smile. “He didn’t take advantage of me. Instead, I’m grateful to him for watching over me the entire night.”
“Really?” Jacob asked skeptically while giving her a probing stare.
Feeling awkward under his gaze, Angeline picked up a small spoon and began digging into the cake to hide her panic.
With her mouth full, she mumbled, “Of course.”
Furthermore, she didn’t consider herself to be lying, for she didn’t resist the kiss last night.
The inexplicable sexual tension simply confounded her.
After breakfast, they had to film a new episode of the show, and the destination this time was the seaside.
As Angeline was feeling under the weather, she only participated in the games on the beach, while Floretta was left in Jacob’s care. Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Laying down on a rocking chair under the shade of a giant umbrella, Angeline sipped from the coconut in her hands while enjoying the delightful view Summerbank had to offer.
That was the reason why she enjoyed filming this variety show. Not only would she get paid handsomely, but she also got to travel. To her, it was simply a dream come true.
Soon, she could hear someone walking steadily in the sand, causing her rocking chair to creak as it sank.
A frantic expression descended upon her face. Without even looking, she could easily guess that it was Evander, for no one else had footsteps that carried such gravitas.
“The wind is strong outside here. Given that you have just recovered, it’s better that you go back.”
Evander’s magnetic voice rang out, carrying a hint of concern.
As her grip on the coconut tightened, she took a moment to calm herself before replying, “Okay, Mr. Golding. I’ll be mindful of it. Thank you.”
“There’s no need for you to feel any pressure.”
Arms folded, Evander leaned his back onto the rocking chair as he threw an icy gaze toward the horizon.
