Love Me The Way I Did

Chapter 10

Gideon walked ahead, but when he didn’t hear footsteps behind him, he turned around and saw an ashen-faced Margaret standing there.

“What, you can’t walk? Shall I carry you in?” he asked sarcastically, smirking.

He wanted to laugh at himself for having so frantically searched for Margaret like a hopeless fool five years ago.

When Margaret left that year, Gideon got word from the hospital about her father’s death. Gideon felt sorry for Margaret and attributed her strange behavior those few days to her sadness.

He then decided to forgive Margaret and to look for her, hoping that by talking to her, they could work things out.

In those four years, he was happy with her. However, Margaret was like a dandelion, and a harsh remark from Gideon was all it took to send her flying off to somewhere unknown.

“Mr. Compton, we can talk here,” Margaret said. She knew she must look like a coward right now. She pretended she did not know Gideon well, but her guilt was written on her face.

“I don’t have the habit of discussing things outside. If you want to talk, you’ll have to come in,” Gideon said as he punched the passcode into the keypad by the door.

Margaret looked at the passcode and found the numbers familiar.Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.

Five years ago, Margaret would stand on the same doorstep and key in the same passcode. She never expected to return here and reminisce on such things

It wasn’t as if Margaret never expected to run into Gideon after her return. She just didn’t think the day would come so soon or that she would still be haunted by the past..

Afloral-scented breeze blew, but Margaret shivered fiercely. She stared at the open door and held her breath, then strode in.

Gideon had poured two glasses of wine and was now seated on the couch. There was a victorious gleam in his eyes. He had known Margaret would come in.

She sat stiffly across from Gideon, her body tense. The couch before her stirred up old memories

Gideon had never been fastidious, they had left their mark on every surface of this house.

“I see you still remember what we u

used to get up to,” Gideon observed after taking a sip of wine.

In actuality, Gideon hadn’t come back to this house since Margaret leht, but he had cleaners come in regularly anyway. He wasn’t sure what he was thinking, either, and only knew that he was following his heart.

“What do you want, Mr. Compton?” Margaret had given away her body and soul in this house. She couldn’t talk to Gideon here and wanted to leave as soon as possible.

“What’s the hurry? It’s been five years since we last met. At least catch me up on what you’ve been doing.” Gideon said as he leaned forward to take the other glass of wine, offering it to Margaret. She sensed danger when he added with an imperceptible smile, “Try some. You’ll like

“No, thanks. I wanted to tell you to stop with the games. We were through five years ago, and we’re better off being strangers from now on,” Margaret said without missing a beat and mentally patted herself on the back. This was the first time she spoke so boldly to Gideon

“Who said we’re through?” Gideon countered icily just as Margaret was about to reach the door.

“Five years ago…” she began.

“Five years ago, I told you to get rid of the baby, but I never asked you to terminate our relationship. I’ve said this before, Margaret-we’re only through if I say so,” Gideon interrupted Imperiously, his tone irking Margaret.

“We were through the moment that child was gone,” she bit out and made to leave, only to be stopped by Gideon’s next words. She was so stunned that she forgot how to move her legs.
