Chapter 27
Chapter 27
Lianne was in the middle of her slumber when her personal phone on the bedside table vibrated. It was
a video call from her grandmother.
She immediately accepted the video call request. “It’s late, Granny. Why are you still up?”
Marianne looked anxious on the video call. “You gave me a scare when I couldn’t get in touch with
you.” Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
It was only then that Lianne noticed the several missed calls from her grandmother. “I was out getting
some stuff, Granny. I forgot my phone.”
Marianne sighed in relief. “Have you had your dinner, Lianne? How are you managing work stress?
You can change your job if it’s too much to handle. Don’t exhaust yourself.”
Feeling a lump in her throat, Lianne mewed, “I’m doing fine, Granny. Don’t worry. Enough about me.
Have you been tutoring kids lately?”
Marianne was a retired teacher. Due to her favorable standing in the education community, the school
rehired her for a few more years after her retirement. Marianne left the school system early this year,
but as she was not the type to sit still, Marianne went on to become a tutor.
“I have nothing better to do, and I can earn an income through tutoring. It keeps my brain moving too.
So it’s a win-win. Lianne, is your husband still busy with work?” Marianne was always cheerful in
Lianne’s presence
Her grandmother quickly changed the topic to talk about her husband.
Lianne was aware of her grandmother’s hope for Caleb to take care of her, so she could not bring
herself to mention Caleb’s intention to divorce her. For the last year or so, Lianne would often say
Caleb was swamped with work every time Marianne asked about him. She never said to her
grandmother that she had only met Caleb once, and it was on the day they got married.
Bearing a smile, Lianne sought her grandmother’s attention like a child. “Granny, the only thing you talk
about is your grandson-in-law since I got married. Don’t you love me anymore?”
Marianne grinned. “Of course, I love you. I hope you and Caleb get along well. I know you two are busy
with work. I’ll visit you in Rosewood during spring I can use the time to meet with my old friend too.”
The divorce could not be kept under wraps anymore following Marianne’s arrival in Rosewood.
Lianne believed she should give her grandmother the heads up. Marianne would not take the news well
if she happily came to Rosewood, only to find out about the divorce even before meeting her grandson-
in- law. “Granny, a lot of people nowadays enjoy a fulfilling single life.”
Marianne responded, “That is a single person’s way of life, but you’re married. You should strive for a
healthy marriage.”
Lianne felt upset. It took two to work a marriage. One person alone could not foster a solid martial
bond, especially when the other had given up. “What if he doesn’t want to keep the marriage going?”
“My Lianne is the best girl out there. Caleb is lucky to have you. How can he refuse to keep the
marriage strong?” To Marianne, Lianne was the best child she could ever ask for.
Lianne asked, “What if he’s blind?”
Marianne solemnly inquired, “Did he bully you?”
Lianne shook her head. “No, no. Nothing of that sort. He’s good to me.”
Her grandmother then said, “Sally is an old friend of mine. I only agreed to give your hand in marriage
because I trust he would be nice Just divorce him if he doesn’t treat you right. I don’t care whose
grandson he is I won’t let him off easy.”
Marianne did not take divorce lightly, so coming from her, Lianne felt her grandmother’s love for her.
Lianne flashed a sweet smile. I love you, Granny!”
“I love you too, Lianne.” The grandmother and granddaughter chatted for a while before ending the
video
call
Lianne put down the phone and tried to go back to sleep. Alas, she was left tossing and turning.
She ran around the whole day and got herself injured. Although she was physically drained, her mind
was still racing
Lying under the covers, she sent a message to her group chat. “Are you asleep, my darlings?”
