Chapter 31
Chapter 31
With her belly filled, Lianne enjoyed a good night’s rest.
Her alarm clock set for six o’clock in the morning failed to wake her. By the time she opened her eyes,
it was half past nine.
The night-long rain finally stopped, and the sun was high on the horizon outside her window.
Behind the floor-to-ceiling window, the view of the turquoise lake and shimmering snow mountain was a
visual feast for Lianne. Her mind and body were in a great place.
Prior to her arrival at the highlands, Lianne had read a lot of posts online about the healing of the mind
and soul during travels to high-altitude areas.
It was a story Lianne did not buy, but her firsthand experience convinced her.
The life of the urbanites revolved around work, studies, and reels. It was not a bad idea to stay in a
place like the highlands on occasion to relax and get away from it all for a week or two.
While lost in her thoughts, the sudden doorbell startled Lianne.
Worried it might be Willow again, Lianne first checked through the peephole. She opened the door
upon realizing it was Dr. Leah on the other side.
Dr. Leah led the server into the room. The server wheeled in a cart with a sumptuous breakfast and
chicken soup.
With a smile, Dr. Leah said, “Lianne, I made you chicken soup. It’s a home recipe. Have the soup and
then your breakfast. I’ll redress your wound after. Zane said you should focus on your recovery. You
don’t have to go around with him until you’re all better.”
“Okay.” Lianne nodded in agreement. Her recovery was essential to perform better at her work.
Lianne’s three meals were delivered straight to her room in the next few days. Lianne believed she had
put on some weight.
The injury on her arm was patching up well after about a month of rest, but the itch from the regrowth of
skin kept her up at night. Owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
Unable to sleep, Lianne went out for a stroll. To her surprise, she opened the door to catch a whiff of a
faint minty smell of cigarette.
It was a scent exclusive to Zane’s cigarettes and unlike the strong and uncomfortable smell of regular
cigarettes.
Lianne picked her head up and turned to the source of the smell. It was Zane, and it had been a
month since she last saw him.
He wore his usual white shirt and black pants, topped with a black jacket. His outfit brought out his
height and build.
“Mr. Atlas,” Lianne addressed him, and he slowly cocked his head to look at her.
The fluorescent light hit his face, shadowing the weary wrinkles between his brows that had not

been there when she last saw him a month ago. Still, the fatigue did not take away from his charm.
He furrowed his brows as if there was something on his mind.
Lianne said hello with respect, “Good evening, Mr. Atlas.”
Zane put out the cigarette and faintly asked, “Where are you going?”
Lianne was honest with her reply. “I can’t sleep since my injury gets itchy from healing. So I thought I
would go for a walk downstairs.”
“Oh.” Zane callously snorted before turning his head away.
She wondered why he seemed in a bad mood.
Since it was not her position to ask further questions, Lianne quietly made her way to the elevator.
“Ms. Simpson…” With Zane calling her name, Lianne stopped in motion. “What can I do for you, Mr.
Atlas?”
He answered, “Join me for a work inspection.”
“Sure. If you could hang on for a second, I’ll get changed.” After a month of break, Lianne was excited
to get back to work.
She was wearing her pajamas under her long down jacket. While the attire was fine for a stroll, it was
not exactly work-appropriate.
“That’s not necessary.” Zane took strides toward the elevator, and Lianne kept up with him.
Lianne was in the same hotel, but much had changed during the month. The absence of facilities and
amenities before was now sorted out.
