Coming Home Chapter 32
HOLDEN
The second I saw Travis's car pull up I struggled to my feet. If Makenzie didn't come to me of her own volition, I would go anc get her. That didn’t need to happen. As soon as she saw me, she started crying. She was in my arms soon enough. We didn't need words to know we were both sorry, and that we also forgave each other. We would share our words later, but right then with her in my arms, we were good.
I gave Travis a nod and was aware that he got back in his car before I turned all of my attention to her. I let Makenzie cry, holding her, and stroking her hair. With my finger under her chin, I tipped her face up and claimed her lips. The kiss tasted o her salty tears.
“Hey, it's okay. I'm here now.”
“Holden,” she said my name in a breath. “I'm sorry."
“No, I'm sorry. I should have given you the chance to tell me, and not railroad you because I figured it out”
“You aren't mad?”
“I've got a room, let's talk there. More privacy” didn't need the hotel staff gaping at us any more openly than they were. I'm sure the beautiful crying woman and the broken, crippled man in their lobby would give them more than enough to gossip over. Besides I wanted, no I needed to kiss Makenzie again, and that wasn't for prying eyes.
she nodded.
I gestured, indicating she should go ahead of me toward the elevator.
She shook her head. “I want to walk with you."
“I'm too slow. I-"
“No, Holden. I want to be by your side. On your own two feet or with crutches. Your speed is my speed. I'm not in a rush as. long as we can be together”
I stopped and leaned on the crutches, drinking her in. In jeans that might have been a bit too tight on her full hips and a tee that had seen better days, with no makeup and her nose red from crying, she was more beautiful than I think she had ever been,
“Did I say something wrong?”
I shook my head. “You said everything right.”
She wrapped her arms around my arm and leaned her head against me in the elevator, not putting any of her weight against me. I balanced on my good leg and shifted that crutch out of her way so I could wrap my arm around her shoulder and hold her close. She supported me for the awkward moment after the doors slid open and I needed both crutches again.
In the room I hobbled to the bed and sat down, leaning the crutches next to me. Makenzie picked them up and put them across the room.
“I might need those.”
“Then I will get them for you. Holden" she knelt down in front of me and held my hands— “You know that Ainsley is our daughter and that I never...”
We stared into each other's faces for a long moment.
“I love you. And I know you. I don’t know how things went so wrong, but I want to fix them.”
She looked over her shoulder at the door. She crossed the room and double-checked the locks before returning to sit next t me. With our fingers laced together, and her head on my shoulder she began talking.
“I didn’t want Travis to be able to come in and ruin this. I know he’s your friend, but he did his best to destroy everything between us.”
“I know, he told me everything. And he hasn't been my friend for a long time, but we are going to see if that can get fixed.” “He told you about the letters?”
“What letters?”
She explained how she found all of the letters that we had written, describing the growing heartbreak as each one didn't get answered. How we both seemed to have hope that the next letter would get through, that we would be back together soon. I pulled her into my lap and pressed my lips to her brow. “Did you tell me about Ainsley in those letters? Did you know before I left?”
She shook her head. “I found out the day you told me you were leaving. I couldn't ruin your dreams; you were so excited. No I didn't tell you in the letters because telling you that you're going to be a father was something that I needed to do in person. Like this" she cupped my cheek and looked deep into my eyes— “Holden, we're having a baby."
I chuckled. “I know, she's three, and she is the most beautiful little girl”
“Yeah, but I have another surprise for you, Holden."
“Is it” Don't tell me you are pregnant again?
“Iam Holden, and this time I want you to be by my side for our first scan.”
“Wow. I'll make sure of that, Makenzie. No one can take that away from me this time.” Adrenaline surged through my body. Joy and love and too many emotions took my breath away. I kissed Makenzie hard. From NôvelDrama.Org.
We rolled into the middle of the bed. With my good arm, I propped myself above her. She looked up at me and ran her fingers through my hair.
“Why are you so happy?”
“Because I love you. Because you love me and are giving me children. Because we're together and nothing is going to get between us ever again.”
She smiled and blushed. “There's something between us right now.”
I lifted my brows in question.
“Too many clothes,” she giggled.
She was right, and we made quick work of undressing each other. I wasn't wearing the compression sleeves over my injuries, since my clothes had hidden the scars from sight.
She didn't say anything, no gasps of horror when she saw the long angry red marks on my leg. Her gentle fingers over my ski were a soothing balm. It was as if her simple touch could ease the deep ache in my injured bones and remove my pain. I lay back and let her examine my scars, no longer worried about how she might see me as weak for having them.
She pressed me back and climbed up my body. Her breasts brushed against me in a sensual promise of pleasure. Her lips against mine were sweet perfection. Everything about her in my arms was better than a dream.
“I guess until you're back up to fighting weight, I get to drive this show” She straddled my hips and rubbed her heat against my ck
“I think even after I fully recover, I might let you drive. The view from down here is so f****g hot" I reached up and captured her breasts in my hands.
With a satisfied sigh, she lowered onto me, accepting me into her body.
I let go of all thought and reveled in the sensation of this woman pressed against my body. Her full soft breasts in my hands her hungry hips pressing and grinding against mine.
We were always good at this, our bodies knew exactly what the other person needed, desired. Her gasps and squeals as my touch drove her toward orgasm, lit me up. I was done for as soon as her inner walls began pulsing and sucking at me.
I dug my fingers into her thighs and pushed up, leveraging with my good leg. Makenzie threw back her head and braced against my chest. She cried out and spasmed around me. With a thrust of my hips, I overbalanced her, so she collapsed against me. I was too far gone in my own need. We hit the pinnacle of 0****m together.
She was limp against my chest, her body pressing me down. I wrapped my arms around her and held her to me. She was mine; I wasn't going to let her go ever again.
“Marry me?”
“What? Like this, now?" She laughed and wiggled against me.
“Now would be good. But I always thought you would want a big wedding. You know, show off to the world that you snagged me.”
“Oh, you think you're some kind of a catch, do you?"
I'shook my head. “No, but you are. And I would be 50 proud to give you a big show-off wedding if that's what you want. I'd be happy getting married at the courthouse tomorrow as long as you are mine.”
She rolled to the side and lifted up to look at me. “I've always been yours, only yours.’
My chest tightened with emotion. I hooked my hand around the back of her neck and dragged her back down to kiss me. I vowed at that moment, that I would only be hers for the rest of our lives.
