Chapter 33
Chapter 33
Out of defense, Alyssa wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her head into his chest. Her mind went blank for a few seconds before she realized what was happening.
"Justin!" She screamed at the top of her lungs. A few pedestrians had glanced her way, but as soon as they saw the man holding her, they quickly looked away.
Alyssa struggled to get down from his arms, “Put me down!”
Ignoring her frustration, Emmett held her even tighter in his arms and put her on the passenger seat. No matter how many times she kicked her legs up in the air or pounded his chest with her fists, he still didn't back down as he closed the door beside her. "Don't move."
"You wish!" As soon as she was seated, she reached out to grab the car door and want to get out of the car. With everything that had happened in the press conference and the night before, the last person she wanted to talk to was him!
Emmett had already expected her to try and fight back. Just as her hand was about to reach for the handle, he held the door with one hand and placed his other hand on the back of her seat, trapping her. He looked at Alyssa with a faint smile, “If you dare to get off, I will kiss you.”
Hearing this Alyssa froze. Although the reporters had left the building, they wouldn't have gone very far. And if they'd see this, she was dead for sure.
Alyssa pursed her lips and said through clenched teeth, “You really are the most shameless man I've ever met."
“Thank you for you praise.” Emmett closed the door, got in the car from the other side and drove away.
Alyssa turned her head to the other side. She did not even want to look at the man beside her. The mere sight of him would annoy her.
Emmett didn’t look at her either. He looked straight ahead and said indifferently, “You haven't answered my question.”
Question?
Alyssa was stunned for a moment before remembering his mocking tone. 'Do you want to be killed or something?'
Alyssa turned around and glared at him, “If you're looking to blackmail me or anything, then I'll tell you right now that it wouldn't work!"
Seemed like, as the days went by, she had started to grow out of her shell bit by bit.
Emmett looked at her and smiled. “Your husband is the most promising man in the Hoovere City. How dare I blackmail you? Do you think I'm that stupid?"
Although these words were spoken to ridicule her, there was a sense of pride twisted into his voice. It was as if he was proud of her for her response.
But why? It wasn't as if she was complimenting him or anything. She was actually just talking about his cousin.
She couldn't help but find him a bit strange.
She looked at “Justin” carefully and found nothing out of the ordinary. He was the same as usual. Perhaps she was thinking too much.
However, at his words, she couldn't help but think back to the interview.
If he had seen the interview that fast, did Emmett see it too? Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
With this thought, Alyssa felt a little uneasy.
The Lawrence family's attitude was actually very obvious from the start. After they had suppressed a few articles relating to Emmett, they made no move to cover up any news about her. In other words, as long as Emmett was not involved they would not care about the grudges between her and her family.
In today’s interview, the reporters’ questions were a bit excessive. Although her answers were enough to grant the two of them some dignity, she could not help but wonder if her answers made Emmett feel disgusted.
Alyssa organized her thoughts and decided to ask “Justin” first. “Has your cousin seen the interview?"
Alyssa organized her thoughts and decided to ask “Justin” first. “Has your cousin seen the interview?"
Emmett recognized the hesitation in her tone and looked at her in surprise. His eyes instantly lit up. “He saw it.”
“Then he…?”
Emmett said with a calm tone. “Of course, he is very angry.”
Angry?
Alyssa’s heart skipped a beat and she became even more uneasy. The only thing she felt guilty about was that she had to drag Emmett into this when he was nothing more than a victim in this situation.
She looked out of the window and realized that it was not the way back. She asked vigilantly, “Where are you going? I want to go back to the villa.”
He acted as if he couldn't hear her and continued to drive. A few minutes later, he just stopped the car the front of a clinic on the roadside.
He got out of the car and opened the door of Alyssa, “Can you walk? Or Should I carry you?”
Hearing this, Alyssa hurriedly bent down and got out of the car.
“Do you want to buy some medicine?" They walked into the clinic, and she took this time to look around and asked curiously.
The man walking in front of her ignored her and continued walking to the clinic.
Alyssa followed up and heard him say to the doctor, “She fell and hurt her leg. Please take a look at her.”
Alyssa was shocked.
Not only did “Justin” carry her to his car, but also he drove her to the clinic to check her legs?
She glanced at her legs. Although she was wearing thick clothes for cool weather, she could still feel pain every time she moved. It seemed like she really fell down heavily.
When doctor heard it, he looked at Alyssa and smiled gently, “Please come in. I’ll help you check on your wound. Where does it hurt?”
“No, my leg is fine.” Alyssa said as she couldn’t help but look at “Justin.”
Justinshowed no expression when he gazed at her. Although he also didn't speak, his handsome face held a hint of sharpness and regalness, which not like a playboy at all. Instead, he had an aura of a king, one that demanded all the respect in the world. It was as if the man had turned a one-eighty on her overnight.
And this kind of “Justin” made her panic.
Upon hearing her response, the doctor chuckled. He glanced at “Justin” and said to her, “Your boyfriend cares about you. Why don’t you just let me check?”
Hearing the doctor’s words, Alyssa immediately retorted, “He is not my boyfriend!”
Emmett smirked and didn’t say anything. Instead, he pointed at the female doctor who was standing not far away from them. “We want a female doctor for checkup.”
“Of course.” The doctor smiled and seemed to understand the meaning behind Emmett’s words. He called the female doctor over.
As soon as the female doctor came over, her cheeks immediately flushed at the sight of Emmett. Then she gently rolled up Alyssa’s trousers to inspect her knees.
Her legs were fair, slander and straight unlike her yellowish face. The female doctor could not help but praise. “Your legs are so beautiful. You could be a model if you want to.”
Alyssa uncomfortably pulled down her pants just a bit. Seeing that “Justin” was right behind her, she couldn't bear to watch him gaze at her like this. Not only was it uncomfortable, but it also might arouse his suspicions even more. There was no way he was going to let her live this down after this.
Her knees were a bit red and swollen. But they weren't injured. As long as she'd do some cold compress at home, she'd be fine. She didn't even know what “Justin” was thinking in bringing her here.
Turning her head inadvertently, she was met his cool gaze.
He stared at her legs as if he didn’t care. “At least your head's not the only one that's hard.”
At that time, when Emmett had seen her fall onto the road, he got panicked, especially when she didn't get up for a long time. He really thought that her leg was seriously injured, so he immediately brought her here to get it checked out.
It was rare for him to have no sarcasm in his words. But it was as if he was sighing.
Although her legs looked fine, the doctor still prescribed some antibiotics.
Once they had finally exited the clinic, Emmett walked straight to the passenger door and pulled it open. A few seconds had passed, and there was still no movement from the other end. Only when he had turned around did he see that Alyssa still made no signs of moving.
He turned around and narrowed his eyes. “What? Do your legs hurt so much that you can’t even walk? Do you want me to carry you?”
Alyssa had always been patient, especially given that she had been dealing with her vicious family for so long. But there was something about Justin's presence that pushed her buttons to no end. She clenched her fists and exhaled heavily, trying to restrain herself from cursing at him
She looked at him and said with a straight face. “Thank for today. I don't want to trouble you any further. I'll be taking a taxi back."
Staring at the impassive expression on her face, he took this time to lean against the car door. “Don't worry, I'm not busy. I'll just be having dinner with a friend of mine. Let's go together. Anyway, you don’t seem to busy either.”
Alyssa didn't respond as she turned around to leave.
She knew she could not talk to this man. But why did he keep pestering her?
Did he find her ugliness unique? Or could it be that he always liked “ugly woman” like her?
Alyssa walked a bit further and was about to call a taxi, when she heard “Justin’s” voice coming behind her.
He seemed to be talking with someone on the phone.
“I'm outside. I met with Miss Moore and we decided to have dinner together. Cousin, you won't mind if I take her out for a bit, will you? After all, we see each other every day. Isn’t it good if the two of us know each other a bit more?”
Alyssa froze, feeling as if he had just thrown chains around her body. She turned around only to see he had been staring at her with a faint smile on his face. She didn’t need to understand anymore. His threat was self-evident.
There was no doubt that if she took an another step further and he would shout “Alyssa seduced me”.
She clenched her fists and took some deep breathes to calm her anger down as she walked to his side.
Satisfaction flashed through Emmett’s eyes as he couldn’t conceal the proud of victory. “You may get in the car Sister-in-law. Cousin and I still have a few things we need to talk about."
Seeing her obediently getting in the car, he lowered his phone. There was no Caller ID being displayed but his lock screen.
"Although you're smart, you can't necessarily outsmart me." There was laughter in his voice as he 'ended' the call and joined her in the car.
