Chapter 779
In front of her stood a girl in a brown dress with bronze skin, looking at her with disdain.
Nina's lips curled into a cold smile. "Trying to scare me?"
Throwing a mouse was such a childish move.
The girl crossed her arms and approached Nina with a chilling glare. "No, I'm warning you! Stay away from Mr. Micah. Don't even think about seducing him!"
The girl's English was slightly better than the children's, but still not fluent.
Nina chuckled. "You're warning the wrong person. I have no such intentions toward Mr. Micah."
"Liar!" the girl spat out, her face full of hatred. "You're not from our village. You must have bad intentions!"
The more the girl spoke, the angrier she became. "And as soon as you arrived, you started hanging around Mr. Micah. What else could you be trying to do?"
Nina found the situation amusing. Her laughter, however, only fueled the girl's anger. The girl rushed forward, trying to push Nina to the ground. Nina dodged and noticed a snake coiled in the grass nearby. An idea suddenly came to Nina. She boldly grabbed the snake and tossed it at the girl.
"Ahhh!" the girl screamed, bursting into tears. Pointing at Nina, she stammered, "You're... you're evil! Just wait!"
The girl quickly turned and ran away. Nina continued pulling weeds.
She believed in not provoking others unless provoked first. Initially, the girl had thrown a mouse at her, and Nina hadn't planned to retaliate. But after the girl's harsh words and attempted assault, Nina felt justified in defending herself.
Unexpectedly, the girl soon returned with a group of villagers, all armed with sticks, hoes, and sickles. They quickly surrounded Nina.
The girl, pointing at her, angrily
shouted in the Yaren language, "She tried to seduce Mr. Micah and threw
a snake at me! We can't let such a malicious woman stay in ou village!"
"Get out!" The villagers brandished their weapons.
Nina stood her ground, not showing any fear. Before she could say anything, a gentle voice approached from a distance, "What's going on here?" Micah pushed through the crowd.
The villagers immediately started
pointing at Nina. "Mr. Micah, we let this woman into the village out of goodwill. But she has ulterion
motives. She threw a snake at Arin!"
Another villager added, "Snakes are the most loathsome and dangerous creatures to us Yaren! This woman brings bad luck. We can't let her stay!" "She needs to go!"
The voices rose in unison. Micah glanced at Nina, whose brow was furrowed, her expression calm but indifferent.
"Has anyone thought about why she would throw a snake at Arin?" Micah's question shifted the focus to the girl. "Why were you at the school? Why did you two argue?"Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.
Arin's confidence faltered. "I..."
Micah continued softly, "There are always reasons behind actions. She's a refugee. What benefit does she gain from being expelled?"
Outside the village were either warring factions or military forces. The villagers began to realize the situation.
Nina seized the opportunity to
explain, "I was let into the village thanks to the man I'm staying with I'm here to help and earn some food. I only spoke a few words to Mr Micah and was accused of seducing him. Then she threw a mouse at me and tried to hit me. Why shouldn't I defend myself?"
