M&M Foods
Chapter 13 M&M Foods
X&J EMPIRE, NEW YORK. Xander furrowed his brows as he stared at the file before him. The proposal does not seem too apt to his taste. Reaching for the phone, he dialed his secretary, Lisa. “To my office now.” He ordered, hanging up. Lisa hurried into the office. “You called for me, sir.” “What nonsense is this?” He questioned, pointing at the file. “I thought you all said you scrutinized the file and are confident we could trust this person? So if I didn’t bother checking, this is the nonsense I would have invested millions of dollars on?” As angry as he was, his voice held no spite to it. She looked cornered. “I…I am sorry, sir.” “You know how much I hate those words, Lisa. Don’t tell me sorry for something as costly as this. Call the others and tell them to toss out the proposal right now.” He growled, causing Lisa to scurry off. Jace entered at the same time, looking behind him. “What did my lady do to you to warrant such yelling?” He asked, dumping himself into the chair. Xander hissed. “This is not the time to flirt or make jokes, Jace.” “It’s a harmless question. What’s with the attitude?” “The proposal for the packaged food company is just as trash as it is insignificant. Who the fuck writes a proposal like that?” “Alright, calm down. You hardly ever condemn anyone’s project like that. What happened?” “I thought Nina was exaggerating when she said that bastard blocklisted her. I made some findings, and it is true.” “Can I take a look at the file?” Jace asked “Sure,” Xander said offhandedly. His brother went through the proposal, and realization dawned on him. “This belongs to M&M Foods.” “So?” “They are one of the best in the industry, brother. I think you should check through it again. It can’t be that bad. Or is this because of Nina?” Xander flared his nose, not making any attempt to deny the claim. His empire had started as an online convenience store where people could order just about anything, which had gotten stronger over the years as he joined hands with several companies to sell their products. He has also stretched towards real estate and hotel chains. To keep that together, Xander wanted to delve into the package food company since he hardly sells consumables. The intention was to partner with a renowned food company and have them handle the rest. M&M being the best only makes it more complicated. “Since when did you mix personal life with business? I understand the old flame is returning, but you can’t lose yourself all the same.” Xander reached for his laptop and pushed it towards Jace. “Before you come at me. Let me enlighten you. For the past two decades, M&M has made massive sales because of their reliability, not to forget they had no competition, which is a surprise. Still, it turned out that Darren Taylor had his way with the government arm in charge of business licenses, and no one ever showed interest too.” “Okay.” “However, eight years ago, when actual competitions were coming up. To avoid being left behind, Darren got too confident and plunged many of his assets into the rumored lands the government was willing to hand over to the citizens. He got greedy and only sought it out for himself. Unfortunately, a new mayor was appointed, and he announced that no government-owned lands would be given away. But with Darren’s reputation, the verdict was all given underground. Sadly, Darren never got the money back, and he had to retire early, bringing in his son, Asher.” Jace sighed. “Sincerely, Xander. I don’t know where all of this is going. M&M has been making sales for seven solid years at a mind-blowing rate. From your words, it’s like they are at their lowest.” “Will you let me finish?” He glowered. “Their finances are still terrible, but the continuous sales gave them something tangent to hold on to. And that is because of this.” Xander tapped on the keyboard, and the screen changed. “This is their best seller.” He pointed out. “But how did you get her credentials?” “She submitted it for the job advert.” Xander looked impressed. “You are quite well informed about them. I guess you take your assignments seriously.” Jace eyeballed him. “I will pretend I didn’t hear the sarcasm underlying those words. So Nina doesn’t know you own the company?” “Not at all. I intend to tell Nina later.” “Okay. So what’s with the best seller?” “Well, it turns out the head researcher, Nina Ruiz, was employed exactly seven years ago as an intern at first, but she rose to the head in two years because she is brilliant. They have also made more sales in the last seven years than ever since the company’s inception. Nina’s constant innovation brought about the development.” “If that is the case, why did he let her go?” “Asher isn’t as hardworking as he portrays himself to be. From my findings, all he does is sign papers and attend board meetings. It was all Nina’s doing, especially since they got married. Now he is only bothered about getting money for the company to put them back on track.” “Let me guess, the lady he left Nina for is a rich kid?” “You are indeed my brother.” Xander laughed. Jace got up and did a mock bow. “Pardon me, your majesty. I never should have doubted you. Forgive this insolent brother of yours.” “Shut the fuck up.” He cackled. “I guess we have found our way to join this competition.” Jace grinned. Xander wiggled his brow. “Now you get the point.” He mused, leaning further into the chair. Not only will he profit from this, but Nina will get to take her revenge without breaking a sweat. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
