Don’t Mess With the Rock Chicks

Chapter 16

Chapter 16

Jolene stepped into the office door and connected Colin’s phone.

He invited her to have dinner and watch a movie.

Colin chased her closely, and Jolene understood what he meant.

He had told her last night that he had a crush on her.

She didn’t refuse, and Colin took advantage of the victory to pursue her.

But she was busy looking for money and paid off three million interest in two weeks. Where did she get so much money?

Although she had made much money over the years, most of it had been used by his stepfather to pay off his debts.

He was like a bottomless pit that could never be filled.

But Jolene didn’t dare to refuse. She was afraid that if she refused, Mrs Evert would know.

She paused briefly before agreeing, “Okay, I get off work at six o’clock.”

“Then I’ll come to the company to pick you up?”

Originally, Jolene wanted to say meet at the restaurant, but

after thinking about it, she said, “Okay.”

She didn’t come to the office just one morning; the desk was full of documents.

She asked Flora, the administrative secretary, to order fried rice, and she was working while eating.

Before the fried rice could be swallowed in her mouth, Bowen’s phone call came from the office intercom.

“There is something wrong with Toyar Company’s contract. Come to my office.”

She put down her lunch box, wiped her mouth casually, and left.

Bowen sat behind the computer, the vast computer screen covering his face.

The air pressure in the office was shallow, several high–level executives were there, and everyone dared not breathe.

Jolene didn’t know what had gone wrong. Bowen threw the contract on the table, and everyone looked at each other, and no one dared to go over.

Jolene walked over to open the contract and browsed to the last page, and she just noticed an extra dot in the hundreds digit where the contract amount was.

Jolene’s cold sweat immediately flowed down.

The 50 million contract suddenly became a 500,000 contract.

At first glance, a large string of zeros after the decimal point was a bug.

“Who is in charge of Toyar Company’s contract?” Bowen took out a cigar from the cigarette case on the table, snipped off the end with a cigar cutter, and lit it slowly.

The whole room smelled of burnt cigars.

“Me.” Jolene said, “I went to Toyar Company to finalize the contract the day before yesterday but at that time…”

“You also made this kind of low–level mistake?” The vice president interrupted Jolene, “Miss Marsh. You have been working for Mr Evert’s for 4 years…”

“This is too big of a mistake, and the difference is more than 49 million!”

Jolene stood silent, and the people who spoke were all whose positions were much higher than hers. Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

Even if she argued for herself, she would just make fun of herself.

She knew she would never make such a low–level mistake after doing it for many years.

When she came out of Toyar Company that day, she also read the contract; it was 50 million in black and white, which was no less.

However, what was happening, she still didn’t understand.

The high–level executives had almost shirked all responsibility, and when they saw that Bowen’s face was so

dark, they finally shut up.

Bowen announced the end of the meeting with a dark face, and Jolene stood in front of his desk for a moment without explaining a word and followed the crowd out.

This matter was indeed severe, but it was not impossible to make up for it.

Bowen and Toyar company Karry had an excellent personal relationship, and they had an appointment for a drink in the evening and then had a good chat. Maybe there was a chance to make up for this mistake.

However, this matter caused much trouble, eventually reaching Mrs Evert’s ears.

At night when she was about to get off work, Secretary Flora knocked on her door as if mourning, “Special Assistant Marsh, Mrs Evert is calling.”

Jolene asked Secretary Flora to answer the phone and give it to her. Jolene cleared her throat and took the phone.

Initially, Jolene thought Mrs Evert called because of the Toyar company’s contract, but she didn’t say that and asked Jolene’s impression of Colin in a pleasant tone.

Jolene replied quickly, ” Very nice and very chatty.”

“Oh.” Mrs Evert said with relief, “It’s good. Girls always let family come first, and career comes second. If you think he is a good person, marrying him will be a nice choice. Assistant Marsh, you’re a smart person.”

Before Jolene could speak, Mrs Evert said, “I’ve also heard about Toyar’s problem. Those older men on the board of directors are all so exaggerated, saying they have caused heavy losses to the group, compensation or something. How can a girl have so much money to compensate?”
