Chapter 88
Chapter 88
He did tell her he would be on a business trip for two days, so she should know that he was returning today. But will she really come to welcome me? Ethan took out his phone and found her number.
Before he could make the call, Alice took her phone out, obviously trying to call someone. Ethan stopped. If she’s here for me, she’ll be calling me. A hint of anticipation flared in Ethan’s heart. He saw her making the call, but his phone didn’t ring. Obviously, she wasn’t calling him. She wasn’t here for him.
Alice was calling Apollo, but the boy didn’t pick up. The airport was big, so it was hard to find someone. Panicked, Alice looked around, but she didn’t see the boy. She started turning around, wanting to see if the boy was outside.
Ethan noticed what she was going to do and his eyes flickered, but he didn’t move away. If she turned around now, she could see him. He wanted to see her reaction when she saw him, but then someone called her as she was turning. It was from Apollo.
“Mommy? Why did you call me? What happened?” Apollo asked nicely.
“What happened? I’m at the airport. Where are you? I’ll be there right away,” Alice snapped, but she heaved a sigh of relief. As long as he’s fine.
Oh no. She’s here? Then she knows. Alright, time to apologize. “Sorry, Mommy. I shouldn’t have run around without telling you.”
“Yeah, you’re sorry, all right.” Alice knew her son was smarter and more grown-up than most kids, but he was still a child, so she was worried about him.
“I’m sorry, Mommy. I promise I won’t do it again. I’ll tell you when I have to go somewhere now. I won’t hide it from you anymore, so please forgive me,” the boy apologized. “Don’t be mad. You’ll get old and
ugly. I want you to be young and pretty forever,” he said. He was starting to act cute just to calm his mother down.
Alice wasn’t mad at the boy. She was mad at herself for neglecting him. Just hearing him trying to cheer her up melted her heart, and a smile curled her lips.
Since she turned halfway around, she was standing perpendicular to the airport’s entrance, so Ethan was able to see her smile from where he was standing. He narrowed his eyes. Whom is she calling? Why is she smiling so happily? A hint of anger filled his eyes. Who’s the one making her smile so widely? She looks so blissful.
Blissful? Ethan gritted his teeth. We’re married. We’re a couple, but she never smiled that happily in front of me.
After Alice took the call, she went to the airport. Just the thought of seeing her baby added a spring to her step.
Seeing her so happy angered Ethan a little. Now he was sure she came to welcome someone, but that someone was not him. I’d love to see who’s the person who can make her so happy. He followed her into the airport but at a distance.
Alice was still immersed in her call with her son.
“I bought something for you, Mom. You’ll love it,” said Apollo. He knew his mother wasn’t angry anymore, but he still had to butter her up.
Alice couldn’t reprimand him now that he bought her a gift even though he went so far away. “Thank you. I’m sure I’ll love it. But don’t you go anywhere that far alone ever again, all right?” said Alice. She didn’t berate him severely because she trusted that her son would know to do the right thing.
“Sure, Mommy. That’s a promise,” said the boy seriously.
“I trust you.” Alice was finally relieved. She knew her son would never go back on his promise.
“I got you a couple of clothes, Mommy. I bet they’ll look super nice on you.” The boy started acting cute again right after that.
“You bought clothes for me?” Alice was shocked. He’s only seven, and already he’s dabbling in fashion?
“You’re my mother. Of course, I have to spoil you,” said the boy without missing a beat.
My mother’s so pretty and brilliant. She should be spoiled. She doesn’t have any partner to spoil her, so I’ll do it. He loved making his mother happy. He knew what his mother liked, so he was sure Alice would love whatever he bought.
Alice grinned. My baby’s so cute and adorable.
Ethan was too far away to hear her laughter, but he saw her shoulders shudder and her grinning. His face fell. I’m her husband, and I never even saw her laugh. Why is she laughing so much? Who is she talking to?
Ethan kept the distance between them a constant. He didn’t really hide, but Alice never turned around, so she didn’t see him. That annoyed Ethan a little.
All Alice cared about was the call and the one she was talking to. She didn’t even care about her surroundings. Ethan wanted to see who it was she would be receiving.
Apollo was an independent boy. He was holding his suitcase in tow as he spoke to his mother, and he was making his way out of the airport terminal.
Alice was waiting for him. When she saw the boy, she finally felt relieved, and a smile broke out across her face. She then trotted over to her baby.
Ethan was standing a few yards behind her, watching everything unfold.Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
