Chapter 25
ADRAIN’S POV
“Come inside.” She said, blankly.
I went inside and sat on the chair. The pale walls of hospital itched me. Why my Sarah has to stay here? What was her fault?
“How are you?” I asked.
“Good.” She answered, plainly.
“Okay.”
I felt myself going out of words. What else am I supposed to say when she clearly don’t have any interest in talking to me? She acts as if I am stranger to her. There used to be times when she was this bubbly girl who go around laughing everywhere. But then everything turned upside down.
“Here I brought you your favourite flowers and chocolates.” I tried to build up a conversation.
She took them from me and stared at the flowers. “You know that I longer like these flowers, right?”
I countered. “But you used to.”
“Things have changed, Adrain.”
I licked my dry lips and watch her throwing flowers and chocolates in the dustbin.
I frowned. She was never like this. Never.
I took one deep breath and decided to tell her everything that’s going on. Maybe hearing that will give her some peace.
“Sarah, I have a good news for you.”
“I am going to die?” She laughed, in hollowness.
Tears gathered in my eyelids at her harsh words but somehow I managed to control them.
“Why are you talking like this?”
“My death would be only good news for me.” She added.
I kept my voice off.
“Do you remember what today is?” She asked, frowning.
“I do.” I replied.
“We lost everything on this day. Our parents died. And you think you visiting me here would make me happy?” She spat.
I shook my head. “I just wanted to meet you, Sarah.” I lied.
The truth is I came here today because I knew that she won’t be able to survive today without crying and I don’t want that.
She’s my little sister and will always be no matter how old we grow and it’s my responsibility to make her feel good and end all her pain.
“So I was telling you that I’ve a good news for you.” I said.
She gestured me to continue further.
“They have a sister, Sarah.” I spoke.
She knitted her eyebrows in confusion. “What do you mean?”
“Her name is Lily and now she’s with me.”
“With you? Are you dating her?” She asked.
Rolling my eyes, I smiled at her innocence. “I forced her to stay with me.”
Her eyes went wide in shock but she didn’t say anything.
“She’s the perfect person to leash my vengeance on her.”
“You’re kidding, right?” She asked, unbelievably.
“No. I am not. I held her captive and did my best to hurt her and cry enough to wish for her death.” I told her.
“What? What you did to her, Adrain?” She asked.
Ah! Here’s the fun part.
“I burnt her with hot milk then put spiders to roam all over her body and let the mice to bite her feet-”
“Stop, please stop.” She screamed.
I flinched and and the smile which I had was now long gone.
“Please say that you’re telling me a lie?” She screamed, again.
“I am not, Sarah. Aren’t you happy?”
“Happy? Do you think this low of me that I’ll be happy to punish an innocent?” She said now at the verge of tears.
I was shocked to hear her say something like this. She should be the one to be most happy and here she’s saying that I am punishing an innocent? How can Lily be innocent when she’s their sister?
“I’ve never thought that you’ll become this low.” She whispered.
“I am doing this for you, Sarah.” I said in frustration.
“But I never asked you to do so.” She countered.
“You’re doing the same, Adrain.” she said.
And just one sentence of her, everything turned different. I find it difficult to breathe. Suffocation started building up inside my chest. I am not them. I didn’t… I…
“What’s her name?” She asked.
“Lily.” I told her in seconds.Belongs to © n0velDrama.Org.
“She’s not at fault Adrain. Don’t hurt her, please. I am begging you. Think wisely, you’re doing the same thing for which you’re taking your revenge.” She added.
I froze.
And that’s how guilt consumed me to the fullest. She’s right, isn’t she? I may not accept what she said but we both know that she’s telling me the truth.
I am also becoming a monster like them. I never thought about this. I was so blinded in revenge that I ignored the fact that Lily is innocent. She has nothing to do with it.
That old man also said the same thing to me.
Why didn’t I think like this before?
“Adrain.”
“Mhmm.”
“I am proud of my brother, please don’t do anything that’ll snatch away my pride. It’s okay that we suffered but that doesn’t have us any right to punish an innocent soul for it.” She tried to smile but failed miserably.
I felt bile rising up to my throat. And everything started flashing in the back of my head in slow motion. All the things that I did to hurt her, everything flashes in the back of my mind.
Fuck! What have I done?
I don’t want my sister to despise me and when she’s telling me that I’ve been doing wrong then definitely it was wrong. She’s such a pure soul, she knows everything that is right or wrong.
I have my trust in her and if she can say that I am punishing an innocent then how come my actions are justified?
“I am sorry, Sarah.”
“Don’t say sorry to me, just let her go.” She said and I nodded my head.
