Chapter 517
"Sure..."
Alexa noticed Shawn was keen on standing up for Flora, so she didn't dare say much more and quickly left.
Without even glancing her way, Shawn turned back to Flora, his tone much gentler this time, "Flora, come with me."
Shawn took Flora to the lab, showing utmost dedication to his role.
Flora couldn't help but notice the dark circles under his eyes and how he occasionally rubbed his forehead, clearly in discomfort. "Are you feeling alright?" Flora asked.
"Just an old issue," Shawn sighed. "I've had trouble sleeping since college, and it's only gotten worse."
"Let's not dwell on that. You've taken Anatomy 101, right? Come here, let me show you something."
Flora watched him, deep in thought.
The next day, Flora brought Shawn a small lavender sachet.
"For me?" Shawn asked, surprised as he took it.
Flora nodded, "Carry it with you. It can help calm your mind and might also ease your insomnia."
Shawn was skeptical about the sachet's effectiveness, but the fact that Flora had remembered his insomnia and brought him this gift the very next day touched him deeply. "Thanks, Flora."
Shawn smiled as he slipped the sachet into his lab coat pocket.
Flora smiled back.
Receiving Flora's thoughtful gift made Shawn even more committed to teaching her. He brought in a small animal for her to dissect, guiding her step by step.
He expected Flora to be clumsy, but to his surprise, her cuts were steady and precise. A hint of admiration flashed in Shawn's eyes, and his opinion of Flora shifted. Anyone recommended by Dr. Jules couldn't be bad!
Maybe they had been too quick to judge her before.
"Shawn, Dr. Ray wants to see you," Senior Darcy called out.
"Alright, I'll be right there."
Shawn quickly made his way to Dr. Ray's office.
"Dr. Ray, you needed me?"
"I heard you're mentoring Flora?" Dr. Ray asked.
"Yes," Shawn nodded.
"Pass her off to someone else," Dr. Ray adjusted his glasses, sounding a bit impatient. "Focus on finishing the paper I assigned you."
Shawn was his star student with a bright future, and Dr. Ray didn't want Flora to hold him back. He had noticed how much time Shawn was dedicating to mentoring Flora, a complete novice. "Dr. Ray, I think you might be underestimating Flora. I've been working with her for a few days, and she's incredibly diligent and responsible. Her skills are quite solid. She's a promising talent." Shawn briefly recounted Flora's impressive performance during the dissection.
Hearing this, Dr. Ray's impression of Flora softened. He knew Shawn well enough to trust his judgment. If Shawn vouched for her, there had to be something to it.
Still, he didn't place much importance on Flora, thinking that as a freshman, her skills couldn't be that remarkable.
"Fine, if you want to mentor her, go ahead, but don't let her slow you down. I expect the final draft of your paper by next Monday."
"Understood."
Shawn left the office.
Dr. Ray's phone rang, and he picked it up.
It was his spouse, craving blue cheese, specifically from the University of Maple Grove night market. If she didn't see blue cheese when she got back on Friday, she threatened to kick him out. Dr. Ray: "..."
From college to almost being six feet under, and still not tired of it?
Meanwhile, Flora was chatting with Connor.
Talking about plans for Friday, Flora suggested hitting up the night market.NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.
