His Cure

Poison

Their eyes rolled out in horror.

“Winifred?!!!”Beatrice yelps and grabbed her since she was the closest person to her.

“Winifred, hey..”she shook her vigorously.

Winnie smiled out and touched her blood.Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

She held Beatrice’s cheek closely before closing her eyes and falling back on the floor.

“Winifred!!!!!”they all screamed.

“That was a close call. If you hadn’t brought her in time, I’m afraid she would be six feets under now. By the way, What was the last thing she ate?. We found out she was poisoned so it must probably be in that.”the doc came out of the surgery room after a long while since they rushed Winifred to the hospital and told them the cause of Wini’s sickness.

“Po.. poison?? But ho.. howw?. She drank a juice.. that’s all.. so.. poison??”Olivia looks scared to death.

They were once girlfriends after all and she obviously still likes Winnie.

“Was she the only one that had that?”the doctor questioned.

“No.. we all drank the same juice but.. I.. I.. I”Olivia took a deep breath in then shuts her eyes.

She opened them back and tears gushed out.

“You.. so.. her’s was only poisoned?”she flapped her lashes but suddenly scoffed then turned to Beatrice.

“No. She drank your juice! Did you poisoned that?!”she surged towards her.

Alyssa stepped in between them and sighed.

“Let’s not make assumptions.”

“Assumptions?”Olivia scoffed ruefully.

“Winnie.. almost died!”she pointed to the direction of the surgery room.

“You shouldn’t blame the wrong person!!!”Alyssa yelled back.

“Well?. How did you know she has been wronged?. We all were there when Winnie carried her drink but then she acted all nice! Isn’t it obvious?”Olivia shouted.

“Oh, really?! Being nice is now a crime that one should get convicted for?. Tell me, why would Beatrice want to poison Winifred?. They just met so what grudges could she possibly hold against her??!!”Alyssa defended.

Beatrice just stood there, not moving an inch.

She found all what was happening hard to grasp.

“Did you forgot Winifred was the one that got her dragged on the internet?. So what revenge could she possibly not hold!”Olivia breathed fastly.

Alyssa sneered at her.

“You were the one that released a false claim, not Winifred. Winifred was the one who saved her by counter – attacking your ridiculous claims so why would she want her dead?!”she seethed.

Olivia’s troubled and accusing face calmed down a little.

“Let’s say she poisoned her, how did she did that?. She wasn’t even the one that brought the drinks in and she didn’t picked a specific glass, nor gave Wini a specific one too, so..?”Alyssa folded her arms.

“It’s obvious, isn’t it?”Doreen rolled her eyes to them.

“Someone poisoned Beatrice’s juice on purpose. Winifred was just unfortunate to drink it in her stead.”she puffed out.

Jennifer heart stopped beating. Her teeths vibrated in fear and she blinked rapidly.

“The waiter!”she said.

They all diverted their gazes to her.

“He must be the one.”she swallowed hard.

“I suggest you involve the police in this. Alright, then. I will leave you guys to it.”the doctor remarked before walking off.

“That doesn’t makes any sense?. The waiter just brought the drinks so how reckless could he be to just bring the drinks and not serve it in order to give the poisoned drink to the right person?.”Doreen furrowed her brows in confusion.

Olivia nodded rapidly.

“She has a point there.”

Now, Jennifer has a pair of eight eyes peering at her keenly.

“I.. no wonder he was acting jittery! For a moment, he insisted on bringing the drinks inside the room himself. Now that I think of it, he was definitely reluctant when I tried to collect the platter from him.”she quickly lied.

“Why would he want to poison me??”Beatrice pierced her gaze in Jennifer’s eyes.

Jennifer sighed and shrugged a little too quick.

“I don’t know. I guess we should go to the police station to report this.”sweats has already formed on her forehead.

Beatrice scoffed silently before taking her eyes away from her.

She is definitely hiding something.

The door to the surgery room opened and some nurses pulled Winifred out, with the stretcher.

An oxygen pipe was inserted in her nose.

Her face looked pale.

“Winifred..”Olivia jumps to her side.

“I’m sorry, ma’am, but it’s better you allow us take her to her ward first. You should stay off for now.”one of the nurses said.

Olivia nodded and they all watched as Winifred was wheeled away.

They followed the nurses to the ward but they stopped them from going inside.

“You can only go in after about two hours, ma’ams. I implore you to be patient so as not to disturb the recuperating patient.”

Olivia was clearly angry but she decided to remain her calm.

They decided to go to the police station.

They reported everything to them and after some investigations, the male attendant was taken as the culprit.

They went back to the hospital and they were delighted when they were informed Winifred was awake and they could now go in.

Beatrice stood far away from her in the ward while others, especially Olivia, sat closer to her.

Winifred flashed a sickly smile at Beatrice.

Beatrice didn’t know how to react so she just stared away.

Winifred’s smile replayed in her head till they got back to their hotel room.

“I am at fault. I shouldn’t have allowed her take the drink. I should have been hurt instead of her, I..”she whimpered.

“Beatrice!”Alyssa called.

“Stop all this, alright. No one saw that coming. And, Winifred is alive so stop blaming yourself! Blame the waiter instead!”

Beatrice shot her eyes up at her.

“But, he didn’t even said the reason he did that. He… what if it was Jennifer?”she said the last part in a whisper.

Alyssa paused. Beatrice has the same thinking as her.

“Oh, probably not. The person that sent him must have threatened him and that’s why he isn’t spilling anything yet but he eventually will.”Alyssa didn’t want Beatrice to act reckless so she told her that to help her take her mind off Jennifer being the perpetrator.

The next day, they all went back to America.

Winifred was admitted in a hospital there to continue her treatment.

But Beatrice still felt guilty so she vowed to visit her everyday in the hospital as she got inside the car Gregory sent to pick her up.
