Chapter 1007: She's Your Mother Too
Yanis picked up the cold water on the table and took a sip before asking, "Does Ivan know? Does he
know about her condition?"
Mila replied softly, "Uncle Baxter probably called him, but I'm not sure what he said."
Yanis nodded and took a deep breath, "I'll think about it."
Mila hesitated for a moment and said, "Miss Thompson, I know I haven't experienced what you've been
through, and I can't fully understand your perspective or feel what you felt. But I still hope you can see
her. It might be the last chance."
Yanis listened and replied with a low "okay."
Mila wasn't sure what Yanis meant by that response-whether she agreed to meet Madison or was just
being polite. She wanted to ask, but seeing Yanis' expression, she refrained from doing so.
After bidding goodbye to Mila, Yanis remained seated on the sofa, lost in her thoughts. The weather in
Manches City had been peculiar these days. One moment it was sunny, and the next, dark clouds
gathered, as if a heavy rain was about to pour.
As Yanis' car stopped in front of the Baxter family's house, she hesitated before deciding to go inside.
The place felt strangely unfamiliar to her, despite having been here many times before.
A woman she didn't recognize answered the door. Yanis asked to see Mrs. Baxter, and the woman Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
informed her that Madison wasn't feeling well and needed rest. Despite the woman's kind explanation,
Yanis still felt uneasy.
The woman left to inform Madison, and Yanis stood quietly in the living room, neither looking around
nor sitting down.
Finally, the woman returned, and Yanis was allowed to go upstairs to see Madison. When she entered
the room, Madison, pale-faced, looked at her with joy in her eyes. But Yanis couldn't meet that gaze
and stayed quiet.
Madison coughed softly before saying, "Please have a seat."
Yanis looked at her face and hesitated for a moment before sitting by the bedside.
The atmosphere in the room was heavy, and neither of them spoke immediately. It seemed that neither
of them knew how to start the conversation.
Then, Madison's voice broke the silence, "In the past, I wanted to marry into a wealthy family, so I gave
you to your father. I also take responsibility for Olivia's miscarriage. Everything you know is true; they
didn't lie to you."
Although Yanis already knew the truth from Chen Shu, Martin, and others, hearing Madison say it
made the impact more profound. She clutched her hands tightly, not knowing how to respond or what
tone to use.
After a brief silence, Yanis finally asked, "And what do you want to say now?"
"I don't want to say anything, nor do I expect you to forgive me," Madison's voice was soft.
A few seconds later, she continued, "Everything you know is true, and I won't argue about it. But Yanis,
I didn't know about your relationship with Martin until recently."
Yanis wasn't concerned about that; whether Madison knew about her relationship with Martin or not
didn't change anything for her. It was irrelevant.
"If you're here just to tell me this, there's no need. It doesn't mean anything to me now," Yanis said in a
flat tone, looking at Madison.
"You've changed, Yanis. You're stronger now," Madison said, looking emotional.
Yanis remained calm. "I've changed, yes. But it doesn't change the past, nor does it change how I feel
about everything."
Madison didn't seem to expect Yanis to be so resolute. She hesitated before saying, "If that's all you
wanted to say, then I'll be leaving."
Madison quickly reached out and held Yanis' hand, pleading, "Don't go."
Yanis looked down at Madison's hand on hers and felt an urge to pull away, but she didn't. Madison
withdrew her hand, embarrassed, and said, "I didn't mean to do that."
Yanis looked at her and asked, "Is there anything else?"
Madison hesitated for a moment before saying, "Yanis, I know I've done terrible things, but I... I'm still
your... your mother."
Yanis frowned at that statement, "Mother? Don't you feel embarrassed saying that?"
Yanis didn't give Madison any leeway in her words, despite her health condition.
