Beth’s gaze shifted to Maggie’s stomach. After Several days, it seemed that her stomach hadn’t changed.

much. Even in the fitted dress, there wasn’t much to see.

She had hoped that by letting Clara know, Maggie would lay low for a while, or perhaps the Harrises would step in and send her away.

Unexpectedly, just in a few days, Nathaelg would once again show up publicly with her.

“Not a surprise. I came here to talk to you, Beth said gently, standing beside her.

Maggie stayed quiet, waiting patiently for what Beth had to say.

“My family has already arranged the marriage with Master Harris. Ms. Adam, you should know that for someone like Nathael, casual flings are fine, but marriage is a big deal involving two families.”

Beth glanced at the woman beside her. Maggie was undeniably beautiful. There was something about her that was both lively and haughty, with a hint of coldness, that could easily attract men.

Maggie smiled, not particularly fazed, and said, “I thought you’d come up with something more creative, Ms. Bray. But it seems you’re sticking to the same old lines.

Beth’s gaze turned sharper. “If Nathael wants to fool around with you, I might ignore it. But eventually, he’ll grow tired of you. There will always be someone younger and prettier to replace you.”

“As for me, I’ll always be his legitimate wife, bearing his children and continuing his family line.”

Beth spoke slowly, whether trying to convince Maggie or herself, but it wasn’t clear.

Maggic Adam chuckled. “Bearing his children?”

She glanced at the woman before her. Beth had that assertive aura. Though not extraordinarily beautiful, her financial status gave her a certain charm, always attracting suitors.

But even the most accomplished individuals, when faced with unfulfilled love, tend to lower their guard, regardless of gender.

Even if Nathael didn’t love her, just being his wife would have felt like a victory for her.

Seeing the mockery in Maggie’s eyes, Beth’s expression darkened.

Maggie smirked and said straightforwardly, “Nathael won’t touch you if he doesn’t love you. If you’re aiming to bear children, you might want to look to someone else for that.”

Maggie didn’t want to deny that when she said those words, she felt both jealous and envious.

She was jealous that Beth had plenty of time to spend with him, and envious that she had plenty of time to dream of growing old with him and having a house full of children and grandchildren.

Unfortunately, these were things she couldn’t have.

Maggie’s words hit Beth’s nerve. Her face contorted with anger. Her eyes darted to Maggie’s belly as she said coldly. “Even if the Harrises agree to let you have this kid, he’ll just end up being an illegitimate child! Or maybe I’ll be the one raising him.”

Maggie was taken aback when she brought up her belly, and–she then fell silent. Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.

So, that joke I threw out last time got her all worked up these days.

No wonder Nathael’s parents were rushing to see me. They probably heard some gossip from Beth, thinking I was expecting.

“Ms. Bray, are you binge–watching too many dramas? Keeping the baby under your name? Let’s put aside Nathael’s opinion for now. According to today’s laws, if I disagree, you won’t have any custody or guardianship rights.”

“Do you think you can outmatch the Harrises and the Brays? Even if the Camerons back you up, you can’t beat the legal power of our two families. Trying to fight for custody isn’t as easy as you think,” Beth said without holding back.

Maggie pondered for a moment and found Beth’s words reasonable.

After all, with the Harris family’s power, if Master Harris decided to push it and Nathael didn’t back her up, there were plenty of ways they could pressure her to give in.

“Well, too bad.”

Beth frowned, asking bluntly, “What?”

“Too bad everything you said is just speculation. You don’t seriously think Nathael would willingly play along as a pawn, do you?” Maggie’s lips parted slightly as she looked directly at her, with a hint of pity and mockery in her eyes.

Beth was taken aback for a moment. Of course, she knew Nathael wasn’t willing to marry her.

“We’ve had the privilege of growing up with our family’s wealth and resources, having things that many can only dream of. And with that comes the responsibility to contribute to the family when needed. It’s just part of the deal we were born into.”

Beth believed that eventually Nathael would come around, just like her.
