Chapter 256 Confrontation

“Did you have any disputes with Ms. Adams before? Why would she push you?” Someone couldn’t help but speak up

Ronald, upon hearing the commotion, hurried over. He embraced the role of the protective father and interrupted. “That’s right, don’t talk nonsense! We don’t know who you are: why would we have any reason to trouble you? What reason would Maggie have to do such a thing!

“Bun his posture does indeed resemble someone who’s been shoved,” another person analyzed logically.

Struggling for a moment. Ben raised his head with reddened eyes. He reasoned, “Perhaps I accidentally bumped into Ms. Adam and displeased her.”

At his words, a wave of gasps spread through the bystanders.

Feeling mad after a collision was understandable, but pushing someone down the stairs out of anger seemed way too malicious.

The crowd’s gaze on Maggic took on a new, inexplicable meaning.

Maggie was not in a hurry to defend herself. She retorted coldly. “If you really bumped into me and didn’t apologise. I could simply file a complaint with the hotel. I believe being accused of an attempted murder. and getting you fired would make me happier than watching you fall down these stairs in front of everyone.

Nathael’s gaze was icy as he examined the compliant man before him. He asked in a deep voice, “Since you’re accusing Maggie, do you have any evidence?”

Ben grew tense at the question. He glanced involuntarily at the second–floor staircase’s position.

The hotel had surveillance cameras, of course, but they didn’t cover all areas. Ben had noted before that the stairwell was one of the blind spots.

It was precisely the reason for him to boldly strike at that spot.

If he were to formally accuse Maggie, he would naturally lack the evidence.

Beth stood among the crowd and watched the scene with a cold gaze. She found the waiter to be quite smart. Despite the failed plan, his accusation against Maggie had caused her some trouble. Beth found the situation somewhat satisfying.

“What kind of evidence could there be? Sir, do you believe I am framing her? I’m merely a waiter. How could I have the nerve to offend a guest?”

Ben looked towards Nathael with a hint of panic. His eyes had turned red, making him appear helpless

and wronged.

Nathael’s gaze was profound. He looked directly at Ben and said coldly, “So, you mean we’re plotting against you?”

Maggie noticed he had taken the blame on himself; she couldn’t help but frown.

The waiter had pointed the finger directly at her, but he used the term ‘we. Although she was confident in

This was something she vowed never to repeat in her lifetime.

Gently grasping Nathael’s fingers, Maggie looked at Ben and said, “While there may not be surveillance at the second–floor stairwell, there are always cameras in other locations. You just mentioned you were going downstairs to replace a wine glass, which means the wine service you were providing was on the second floor for the guests.”

Ben furrowed his brow slightly, uncertain of Maggie’s intent.

Maggie’s voice, clear and pleasing to the car like a mountain stream, drew in the surrounding audiences. They listened as she spoke with calm authority, free from any rush or panic.

“In that case, would you please tell us which guests you served the wine to before? And where were you when the guests took it?” Maggie looked straight at Ben and challenged him with her question.

Ben was stunned briefly before stammering. “How… how could I possibly

how could I possibly remember? With so many guests at the banquet, it’s impossible to remember everyone. You’re giving me a hard time.”

Maggie grinned and continued, “The main event of Mr. Orson’s party is on the first floor. Although there are occasional guests on the second floor, most are there for some peace or to rest in their rooms. So, if a guest had taken a drink from your tray or placed one there, you should have a clear memory of it.”

In other words, it was odd for Ben to be on the second floor with so few people there. If he had indeed encountered any guests, he should remember them sharply.

At this point, beads of cold sweat formed on Ben’s forehead.

Maggie was correct; after emptying his tray of drinks on the first floor, he purposefully followed her to the second floor, where he encountered no guests.

Ben remained silent. Maggie turned to the hotel manager and asked. “If I recall correctly, your hotel. should assign specific duties and areas to each waiter. May I know the assigned duties and area for this

waiter?

The manager was struck with a realisation. He hurriedly replied, “I’ll check that right away.”

He quickly asked someone to send him the duty roster. After he went through it, the hotel manager said, “According to the schedule, Ben’s service area should be the castern section of the first floor, mainly to offer drinks to guests and collect empty glasses.”

The entire first floor of the ballroom was divided into four areas–east, west, north, and south–each staffed with three waiters serving drinks, with other tasks being assigned elsewhere.

Realising the situation, the manager furrowed his brows at Ben and questioned, “Why did you go to the second floor? That area is mainly for guests to rest and is not within your service area. Why were you

there?”

With that, Ben’s face grew paler. His sweat became more profuse, clearly flustered.

“I… I just wanted to sneak up there to slack off, Ben murmured hesitantly.

Maggie raised an eyebrow with his answer, a silent acknowledgment of his clever turn.

Indeed, compared to an attempted harm and subsequent retribution, this excuse seemed far more plausible.

That’s right, Ben could have sneaked up to the second floor to slack off, where he had an unfortunate encounter with her. Then, they exchanged harsh words, leading to her pushing him downstairs.

This explanation seemed quite reasonable.

Maggie planned to request the manager examine the surveillance footage from upstairs, reasoning that if Ben’s movements at the stairwell were unrecorded, they should investigate his potential activities.

With Ben’s explanation, the absence of his image on the surveillance footage seemed to make more sense.

“Well, then, that means your earlier statement about going downstairs to change glasses was a lie. When your first statement is a lie, how can you prove the rest of your story is trustworthy?” Maggie looked. straight into his eyes and challenged him directly.

Ben opened his mouth, but no words came out.

He had thought that by refuting that evidence, Maggie would be forced to scramble for other proof, but she had cleverly turned the tables, making hing defend himself.

That’s right, Ms. Adam has a point,” someone in the crowd chimed in. “How can we trust a sneaky, lying person like him?”

Ronald spoke up again. “You dare to slander my daughter; you must give us a good explanation or we will not let this go!”

Everyone’s accusatory glare pointed towards Ben, his forehead now drenched with sweat.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.

Beth, amidst the crowd, couldn’t help but frown. Maggie was too cunning. Although that waiter might have possessed a touch of wit, his schemes were incomparable to hers.

I… I… Why would I slander someone I don’t know?” Ben looked towards Maggie, trying once again to defend himself.
