Love's Redemption

Redmption 113

Redmption 113

“Your resignation is rejected,” Conrad said authoritatively, with the demeanor of the head of the house

Lisa shouted, “Then, you were too soft on him! You should have split that bastard’s head open lik e a melon!

“He wouldn’t touch you when you were his wife, but now, he wants to force himself on you! You’ve done nothing wrong by smashing his head!”

Lisa’s ranting bore no trace of the professionalism of the cold but amazing

obstetrician.

I explained, “He’s just a typical jealous and insecure man. He always thought I couldn’t bear to leave him. Now that he realizes I’m not playing his games anymore, he’s getting frustrated.”

Lisa agreed and added, “He’s realizing far too late that he loves you so much to the point where he can’t bear the thought of you being with other men.”

Was that so?

To stop me and Brandon from working together, he first assigned Conrad, then/ Jewel, to work with me. Because of that, I couldn’t even finish my work at the amusement park.

However, Brandon promised me that he would complete the project.

“Maddie, remember this. Every time Chris messes with you again, punch him! Once he gets scared, he won’t do such things again,” Lisa instructed me..

“Okay,” I agreed.

Someone called for Lisa. Before she hung up, she said, “I’ll check on him in a while to see if he died from blood loss.”

I chuckled, but then, a wave of sadness washed over me.

After a while, I got out of the car. When my neighbors saw me return, they greeted me, “Miss, why are you back all by yourself? Where’s your boyfriend?”

When I remembered how the neighborhood ladies gave Brandon their unsolicited advice, I laughed. “Why? Is it time to clean our corridors again?”

They chuckled. “No, no! We just think that the young guy is not bad. He’s handsome and hard– working. You should cherish him.”

“Alright.”

I went upstairs. However, I was taken aback when I reached the top of the stairs. The door opposite my unit was wide open, and someone was throwing things out.

No one had ever stayed there since I moved in. Now that their belongings were also blocking my door, I could only walk in and ask, “Are you moving houses?”

A middle–aged woman looked at me. “You are…”

I pointed to my unit. “I live there.”

me,”

She instantly understood. “I’m so sorry. I rented out this unit. The tenant asked me to tidy it up a bit, hence the mess. Let me rearrange the stuff so you can

enter your house.”

I thanked her and then looked around the unit. It was much more run–down

than mine. If it were me, I wouldn’t even want to rent it. The tenant was probably not in the best financial condition.

“Ma’am, can I know whether this tenant is male or female?” As I was going to be their neighbor, I wanted to know.

“It’s a man. Quite a handsome young man!” She finished clearing the path to my door.

A man?

For some reason, I felt a little uncomfortable. After all, it still felt a little unsafe to have a strange man as a neighbor.

However, I had no say in this matter. After I thanked the woman, I went inside my house and plopped on the couch immediately. My thoughts were all jumbled up as I looked up at the ceiling. I also felt exhausted.

Although I didn’t struggle too much while fighting with Chris, I felt completely drained. I shut my eyes, trying not to think about it, but my thoughts became messier.

Finally, I opened my eyes and got up to cook something in the kitchen. Only then could I distract myself.

I was making potato soup when my phone rang. It was from Conrad.

“Maddie, come back to the amusement park now. Nobody can fire you.”

“Conrad, I’ve submitted my resignation letter,” I said calmly.

Before I left the amusement park, I really felt the project would fail without me. Even if it succeeded, it wouldn’t be up to my standards. However, now that I

left, I felt nothing.

This feeling was like when I let go of Chris.

old.

I knew that he had the authority to do this. Even if he didn’t, he could also ask Zack to step in and invalidate Chris‘ words. But I didn’t want that to happen.

To discourage him, I said, “Mr. Chris has already agreed.“.

After all, Chris was the real head of Gildon Corporation, while Conrad was not.

Conrad stayed silent for a while. Then, after a few seconds, he asked, “Where are you?”

Aside from Lisa and Brandon, no one else knew I had moved here. Nevertheless, I couldn’t guarantee that Conrad would never find out.

He had feelings for me and even remembered the phone that I kept. Perhaps he would also be able to gues’s my new place of residence. NôvelDrama.Org owns this.

Still, I didn’t want to tell him yet. “Conrad the amusement park was the fruit of my labor for two years. As for the rest, I have to trouble you to complete it.”

“Maddie…”

“Conrad, let’s stop talking about this.”

I ended the call and looked at the bubbling potato soup in the pot. It smelled

great.

I didn’t have any other vegetables or meat, so I just drank the soup. While I ate, I applied to other jobs using my laptop.

With my years of experience at Gildon Corporation, I was confident I could find a decent job. After I was done with my job search, I also finished the soup. However, it seemed like my neighbor had yet to settle down.

Without surprise, I felt sleepy after a satisfying meal. I fell asleep on the couch and turned my phone on silent mode so wouldn’t get disturbed.

I slept for a few hours. When I woke up, it was quiet outside. In fact, it was so quiet that it felt like I was transported to another realm.

After daydreaming for a while, I looked at my phone. It was already 3:00 pm.

How was it only 3:00 pm?

Time was passing so slowly. Usually, when I was busy, it always felt like time was slipping through my fingers like sand. Now that I had loads of free time, I felt a little unused to it.

There were a few missed calls from Kara, Bree, and an unknown number. This

number even called me three times.

It was fine as long as I didn’t receive Brandon’s call. If he called me, it had to be because there were some issues with work. No calls from him meant that work was going smoothly.

However, I still called Kara back.

She picked up my call almost instantly. “Maddie, why didn’t you answer the phone?”

“Did something happen?” My voice was still tinged with sleep.

Kara immediately picked up on it. “Maddie, did you just ditch us here and take a nap by yourself?”

“Yeah. If I have nothing to do, of course I’m going to nap,” I answered her as if it was the most sensible thing in the world.

Kara whispered, “Maddie, come back. I can’t do this on my own without you!”

I could tell she was whispering, not wanting Brandon to overhear her. “Why? Is your dreamboat troubling you?”

“Well, he isn’t, but I can’t keep up with him. He’s obviously upset and keeps looking at me like I’m an idiot. This is really hurting my ego!”

Kara’s words made me

laugh.

After that, I comforted her, “A capable leader has strong followers, too. You’re not an idiot! If he disrespects you, he’s also disrespecting me. I’ll punish him!”

“Then, how do you wish to punish me?” Suddenly, the voice on the phone changed, which surprised me.

After a short, awkward pause, I continued evenly, “Mr. Howell, you and Kara

need time to learn how to work together. You need to be patient and understanding with her.”

Brandon didn’t say anything.

I paused, then asked, “Is there anything else?”

“I found a few more problems during today’s testing. Ms. Spraggins wasn’t too sure about it, so I need your help.”

I was surprised by his reply.

“I have resigned. This is none of my business anymore.”

“But you said you wanted to end this project perfectly, didn’t you?”

His words made me pause.

I was quiet for a while before I said, “Alright. I’ll meet you later.”
