Love's Redemption

Redmption 125

Redmption 125

I looked at Chris. “What do you want to say? Do you want me to compensate you, or are you telling me that you’re suing me for physical assault?”

“What do you take me for?” Chris‘ voice dropped. His demeanor had shifted back to that of the cool, aloof CEO.

“I’m here to apologize. I was impulsive and reckless yesterday. You were right to hit me. Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.

His words caught me off guard.

Seeing the bandage peeking out from under his baseball cap, I accepted his apology. “It’s good that you know.”

Chris chuckled. “Madeline, looks like you’re becoming… bold.”

Bold? How so?

Instead of asking, I simply remarked, “You were in the wrong.”

“Yeah. I know I messed up yesterday. I got too close to Jewel, disregarded your feelings, let her stay in the house I prepared for you, and even gave her my supplementary card.” He reflected on his mistakes.

I wasn’t sure where he was going with this until he continued, “I apologize for that. I was completely out of line.”

“No need. Right or wrong, it doesn’t matter now,” I said and walked away, but he stopped me.

“Madeline, I’m not done yet.”

I glanced at his cap. “Go ahead.”

“I’ve apologized and admitted my mistakes. And about that kiss with Jewel–it was a joke, an accident. If you feel it was unfair, find a guy and even the score.”

Iclenched my fists at his words.

Chris noticed and quickly dodged to the side, then returned. “You can hit me, just not on yesterday’s wound. Pick another spot.”

I couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

Had Chris always been this humorous? Or was this his way of seeking forgiveness?

“Maddie.” He reached out to me. “Can we start over? Or maybe I can win you

back?”

“Chris, it seems my punch has impacted your brain. You don’t even know what you’re talking about.” I pulled my hand away from his grip.

“I do.” Chris looked at me earnestly. “I still want to marry you and make your Mrs. Gildon.”

I let out a cold laugh. “Chris, whether you’re joking or you’ve genuinely got your brain damaged, let me make one thing clear–I will never go back on my decisions.”

“Maddie, I know you’re upset. Take your time. I’ll wait for you,” he said shamelessly as his audacity grew.

His words were infuriating.

I pressed my lips together. “I’m sure Bree hasn’t got the time to tell you that she’s going to adopt me as her goddaughter. You’d be my brother. Can you envision a brother and sister getting married?”

Chris frowned instantly. “That’s impossible. My parents only see you as their daughter–in–law.”

I couldn’t be bothered to argue and left without entertaining his nonsense.

As I got into my car, I heard him say, “Madeline, I rejected your resignation.”

Damn!

I slammed my hand on the steering wheel. How was I supposed to attend interviews if he wouldn’t approve my resignation?

Chris was playing dirty now. But I vowed not to fall for his tricks.
