Redmption 174
Redmption 174
Chap 174
Although our boss seemed mysterious and rarely appeared on any occasion, he seemed to know what was happening within the company.
Chris diverted his anger for me toward Xander. “Objected? Are you aware of who you’re dealing with? Do you know who I am?”
At that moment, Chris resembled a cocky tycoon. He exuded the typical alpha male energy.
While holding a cup in his hand, Xander radiated an air of indifference that only an elderly person could possess. He faked a smile and answered, “It’s precisely because our boss knows who you are that he decided to call off the collaboration.” His response was concise yet deadly.
An angered Chris roared, “Who’s your boss? Does he not want to survive in Hilcord anymore?”
“Yup, my boss said that even if it comes to that, he doesn’t want to work with you.” It seemed like Xander could do both praises and insults well.
At that point, Chris was visibly furious. “Fine! This is a warning for what’s about to come. And relay that message to your boss.”
“Okay, and my boss has informed me to tell you to come at us!” Xander’s response was undeniably triggering.
Seeing that Chris‘ veins had popped up on his temple, feared he would actually punch Xander’s grinning face. Nevertheless, Chris kept his cool and looked at me after glaring at Xander.
“Madeline, I know you’re kind and hate troubling others. If you come with me today, I’ll make sure nothing happens to you. But if you don’t, don’t blame me for the consequences this company is about to suffer.
After his relentless attempts, Chris had resorted to threatening me. Although I grew up with the Gildons, I inherited my parents‘ resilience. Had I been someone easily threatened by him, our relationship wouldn’t have evolved to this stage.
“If you’re gonna do that, Chris, consider the last shred of our bond gone.”
“You don’t even want me anymore. What fucking bond are you talking about?” he cursed.
I did not want to argue with him there, nor did I want my coworkers to have a field day with this drama. Thus, I ordered him to leave. “You may leave now, Mr. Gildon.”
Chris raised his hand for a while, as though he wanted to strangle me to death or drag me away by my

At the right time, Xander spoke, “If you’re not seeing your client out, please come to my office for a chat,
Ms. Crown.”
That was nice. I, too, wanted to have a chat with him.
With that left with Xander and did not bother with the furious Chris.
“Mr. Roulder, who exactly is our boss? How did he know about all this?” I got straight to the point upon entering Xander’s office.
Not only was our boss mysterious, but he even defended me by rejecting the collaboration because of Chris‘ identity. That alone was enough to pique my curiosity.
“I told him about it. How else would he know about anything? He’s not a god.” Xander had never really
been serious with me.
“Then, why did he object to this collaboration? Does he know Chris?” I probed further.
Xander sat there and ground the beans. His fingers, which were as pale as snow, formed a pleasing. juxtaposition to the dark coffee machine.
“Maybe, I guess. I’m not so sure myself.” He flashed me a smile.
Although this man looked masculine, his smile was unexpectedly gentle and feminine.
Pursing my lips, I scanned Xander’s office but found no traces of him and the boss‘ interaction. Hence, I took a deep breath quietly and asked again, “Mr. Roulder, when will our boss visit the company?”
“Well… I can’t say for sure. Perhaps the end of the year. Anyway, he’s not that concerned about the company’s matters.”
His response rendered me speechless. Why would someone who was supposedly unconcerned interfere with my business dealings? I laughed mockingly. “You’re saying our boss is just a figurehead then?”
“Well, you can say so.” Xander nodded in agreement before adding, “Of course, he exercises his privilege at times. Just like today.”
