Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 31

Selena squirmed uncomfortably. What was his problem now? Her fidgeting only seemed to annoy Everett more, his grip around her waist tightening like a vice. His dark eyes shot her a frosty side-eye-a clear warning. Today, she was supposed to play the part of the loving wife, so Selena, ever the professional, swallowed her irritation and stood still.

Callum flashed a warm smile and greeted, "Everett, long time no see."

Everett gave a half-hearted smile in return. Then Callum turned to Selena. "Selena and I..."

They had hit it off right away and shared similar views. Selena didn't want to be called Mrs. Bennett anymore, so they agreed to use first names.

Before Callum could finish, Selena jumped in, "We just clicked, unlike some people who make even half a conversation feel like too much of a task!"This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.

She was on the brink of divorce. Who she got along with was not Everett's concern, and she did not owe him any explanations!

Everett's brow furrowed deeply, his handsome face icing over. Sensing the tension, Callum diplomatically said, "I'll let you two chat. I'm off to find the restroom." Selena remembered he had asked about the restroom and quickly directed him, "Just up ahead and take a right."

"Thanks," Callum nodded and walked away with an easy grace.

Then, a sharp pinch on her waist jolted Selena back to reality. She looked up into Everett's dark, brooding face. "Everett, what's your problem?"

She shoved him away, rubbing her waist where he'd pinched her. It had definitely left a bruise.

"You're ogling another man like that. Who are you trying to embarrass? You're Mrs. Bennett. Remember your place!"

Selena let out a bitter laugh. The nerve of him to fool around and then accuse her-typical of someone with a guilty conscience.

"I couldn't care less if you feel embarrassed, but I've got nothing to be ashamed of!"

Her defiant attitude only stoked Everett's anger, making him laugh sarcastically. "Selena, Rebecca claims you threw a drink on her in

front of everyone."

Selena had expected Rebecca to run to him with a twisted version of events and scoffed, "And what? You're here to play judge?"

"Shouldn't I? It's Grandpa's birthday,

and instead of being the gracious host as his granddaughter-in-law, you're causing a scene! How do you think it makes the Bennett family look? Everett's tone was icy and self-righteous.

Even though she saw it coming, his words still cut deep. Selena's hands clenched at her sides. In the past, she would've taken it silently for the sake of peace. She didn't wante Everett to think she was unreasonable or naive.

Lifting her chin, Selena shot back, "Mr. Bennett, you've already decided I'm at fault without even hearing the whole story?"
