With the Carson family’s power, Michael could easily torment Dustin so much that he would die from a single onslaught.
“Dustin, you’d better come along quietly. It’s a bigger crime if you resist arrest. You might be able to escape capture, but that pretty woman next to you won’t. She and the whole Langley family will be considered accomplices to your crime!” Clara added.
Clara knew that Dustin was a formidable fighter and could defeat even Shadow Two. The only way to hurt such a person was to threaten the people he cared about.
“I’m disappointed in you, Clara Wyatt,” Dustin sald while shaking his head. “I thought you’d come up with some strategic feat, but your methods are so low.”
Clara’s face turned stormy.
“What’s the point of saying all that?” she asked sarcastically. “You might as well think about how you’re going to survive the trip to the border.”
She believed that she had cornered Dustin into an impossible situation.
If Dustin resisted capture and tried to escape, his punishment would be even worse. Also, the Carson family would hunt him down. The people he cared about would be in trouble as well, and they would suffer a grim fate.
If Dustin did not try to run, he would be exiled to the border. He would die just the same on the way there. Even if he made it, the rest of his life would be agonizing. In the end, he would still die at the
border with no one to even give him a simple funeral.
“Arrest him!” The mayor gestured.
Someone moved forward with handcuffs to arrest Dustin.
Clara and Michael watched.
“Wait!” Dustin looked up and shouted.
“You don’t have any right to argue!” the mayor said coldly.
“Mr. Mayor, you don’t have the right to give orders here,” Dustin said icily.
“I’m a sixth tier official! Why wouldn’t I have the right to give orders?” scoffed the mayor.
“Because… you’re not Rivenesco’s mayor anymore,” Dustin said evenly.
“What a joke!” The mayor looked at him mockingly. “Do you think it’ll become true just because you say it? Do you really think you can remove me from my post?”
Dustin smiled but remained silent.
Suddenly, someone barged into the hall with hurried steps. He was holding a huge white envelope.
“I have a letter from the government!”
Everyone was thunderstruck.
“Damon Jinks, mayor of Rivenesco, this letter is for you!”
Damon’s face paled as he quickly approached the messenger with his head lowered.
The people around him were nervous as well. They all bowed their heads respectfully. Even Michael ducked his head.
Clara’s face turned pale. She was confused as she lowered her gaze.
In the hall, only Dustin and Simone looked at the messenger.
Simone wanted to bow her head as well, but Dustin stopped her.
“Damon Jinks, mayor of Rivenesco, while in office, you have taken more from the people than you have given. We have proof that you were involved in corruption and bribery. You are hereby stripped of your position and will be imprisoned in Rivenesco Penitentiary while your assets are confiscated. Further punishment will be decided after that!”
After the messenger read the letter, Damon’s face paled.
“I… accept these orders…”
He was trembling as he accepted the official letter. He felt weak at the knees.
He did not understand how he had been discovered, fired, and punished on the same day so suddenly.
He might even face capital punishment for this.
Clara wondered how this had happened so suddenly. She frowned because it did not make sense. Michael’s face twisted in displeasure.
If Damon had been fired and sentenced to imprisonment, who could he order to deal with Dustin? Owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
He could not do it himself. Dustin would destroy him.
One of the men who had moved forward to arrest Dustin used his handcuffs on Damon instead. He followed the messenger’s orders and took Damon to Rivenesco Penitentiary.
Even after they left, many of the people in the hall were still in shock.
Everything had happened too quickly.
Clara looked at Dustin with a piercing gaze. She clenched her fists.
Dustin had escaped again…
Could the incident with Damon have something to do with him?
But how could he have managed such a thing?
The official orders had come from Central Harbor!
