Chapter 121 He’s a human trafficker
After Alan met with the client, he rushed to the hospital.
Lydia is sitting on the hospital bed eating, “So early today? Have you eaten yet? Do you want to eat together.”
“No, I just finished having dinner with a client.”
“So, if you had come earlier, you could still have met Lexie. Here, Lexie gave chicken soup, yesterday it was fish soup, although fish soup helps recovery, she said she needs a change of taste once in a while.”
Alan was slightly stunned, “She’s been coming every day for the past few days?”
“Yes, after I was hospitalized, she came every day, changing the pattern of cooking for me, saying that the meals sent from the restaurant were too big for the oil, so I could eat less.”
“How come I haven’t seen it?”
“I think so, Lexie seems to have deliberately avoided the time you came.”
Lydia gauged Alan’s expression, “What you did before was really a bit too much, and if I were her, it would be hard to understand, so why don’t you take this opportunity to talk it over?”
“There’s nothing to talk about.”
“You’re a person who doesn’t tell people what’s on your mind, and you’re cold.”
“You eat first, I’ll go get some fruit.”NôvelDrama.Org owns all content.
With these words, Alan went out.
Lydia glanced at the mountain of fruit baskets piled up in the corner and tsked.
Buying fruit? How about coaxing children?
Lexie is picking vegetables in the kitchen and Grandma is watching a TV show in the living room.
“Ding-dong” came the doorbell.
“Patrick, the boy, told him to take his keys with him when he went out and forgot again.”
Grandma chanted as she went to open the door.
Lexie was afraid that something might happen to Grandma if she lived alone, so she gave Patrick a spare key to the house.
“You are?”
“Grandma you forgot, I’m Jack, I came here once before.”
In the kitchen, Lexie heard a familiar male voice and was stunned. She wiped her hands and came out of the kitchen and saw Jack standing in the doorway with a large bag of things in his hands.
“Ma’am.”
Grandma was still frozen, and Jack had already asked the people behind him to move the stuff inside.
“Mr. Howard heard that grandma was injured some time ago, so he bought some health care stuff and sent it over.”
“How embarrassing it is, I haven’t even finished the last delivery yet.”
“Mr. Howard’s little token of appreciation, you don’t have to take it to heart, grandma, give way, don’t touch you.”
The four workers behind Jack, carrying a massage chair inside the living room.
Lexie busied herself with pulling away the chairs and tables in the living room to avoid touching them.
“And where is your Mr. Howard?” Grandma inquired of Jack, “He’s been married to our Lexie for so long, I still haven’t even met him.”
Jack said, “It’s downstairs, there’s still some stuff I haven’t brought up yet.”
Downstairs?
Lexie’s heart thumped and she immediately stopped in front of her grandmother.
[Grandma, you stay home first, I’ll go downstairs.
Grandma didn’t see her panic, and shouted at her back, “You asked Alan to come home for dinner.”
Lexie almost ran down the stairs and saw Alan just getting out of his car, his hands in his suit pockets, looking around the neighborhood.
[What brings you here?
Lexie had a wary look on her face.
Alan glanced upstairs at his grandma’s place, “Is the delivery still satisfactory?”
[I don’t seem to have done anything to displease you recently?
Lexie’s reaction, like a scared hedgehog, was guarded.
The mildness in Alan’s eyes gradually disappeared, “Just asking someone to send something to your grandma, do you have to react so much?”
[Is that so? Did you just have someone deliver something to grandma? Not to warn me?]
Lexie was quick to compare, all nerves tense.
Alan knew her weakness, knew that without Myles, the only thing in the whole of J City that she could not rest assured about was Grandma, and he used this as a way to warn himself not to act rashly and have any thoughts that he should not.
Alan’s good mood instantly went up in smoke, “Lexie, you think so much.”
After saying this, he immediately pulled open the car door and made a gesture to get in.
Lexie breathed a sigh of relief and was about to go back when she heard a voice calling out to her from behind her.
“Little Lexie!”
Grandpa David, wearing the uniform of the community janitor, came towards her with a fish in his hand, smiling, “Fresh fish just bought at the market, didn’t you say you wanted to make fish soup? I brought it here for you.”
Lexie suppressed the strange look on her face and nodded her thanks to Grandpa David.
Alan had already gotten into the car, the moment he closed the door and saw the person talking to Lexie, only swept a glance, the pupils suddenly contracted and shuddered hard.
Lexie and Grandpa David were walking upstairs together when they ran into Jack, who had just come downstairs and was on the phone.
“Yes, I know, I’ve seen it.”
In the narrow hallway, the moment their eyes met, Jack’s eyes suddenly sank, signaling the two workers around him, “Do it.”
Before Lexie could return to her senses, Grandpa David let out a cry of surprise and was held hostage by two workers.
Those fish fell in the stairwell, struggling and jumping around.
[What are you doing?
“Madam, I’m sorry, Mr. Howard’s orders.”
Grandpa David cried out in pain, “What are you doing? Let go of me!”
Lexie blushed miserably, she knew Alan was here for no good reason.
She stopped Jack, almost ran downstairs, saw Alan standing downstairs, and immediately questioned, [What the hell are you doing?
An innocent, elderly person who doesn’t even have anything to do with himself, Alan actually refused to let go.
Alan’s face was horribly gloomy at the moment.
“Do you know who he is?”
[Grandpa David is just the neighborhood doorman, are you crazy?
“He’s a human trafficker!” Alan yelled low and grabbed Lexie’s wrist which was gesticulating wildly, “What are you still standing there for? Arrest the man straight away and take him away!”
Alan shouted towards her behind, Jack was frightened and immediately waved his hand for someone to grab Grandpa David in the car.
Lexie struggled to stop it, but her strength was too much to break Alan’s hand.
This feeling of powerlessness poured down instantly like a flood, and in one violent moment, she remembered that it was the same way in the hospital ward when Alan had someone hold himself down and she watched Myles lose a leg.
No, she couldn’t let the same thing happen again.
She bit toward Alan’s wrist.
“Well–”
Alan grunted and let go of his hand, Lexie broke away from him and quickly ran towards Grandpa David.
She could not shout, but could only desperately pull the two workers.
One of the men got impatient and pushed her away with a flip of his hand.
“Ah…”
“Ma’am!” Jack hurried up to help her, but his face changed, “Ma’am, what’s wrong with you?”
Alan hanging hands, heard this a turn of the head, they saw Lexie fell to the ground, half of the skirt oozed bright red blood to.
His eyes were fiercely stunned.
