He pretended nothing happened.
They walked into the restaurant.
“I booked a table next to the window. We can see the sea from here. Do you like the view?”
Janet smiled, “Thank you. I like it very much.”
Orville’s eyes lit up again!
They sat down. The champagne and the starter were served.
“This fruity champagne is the most suitable pairing with the salty red silk fish. Try it!”
He picked up the fish and put it in front of her mouth.
Did he want to feed her?
Janet avoided it, “Let me try it.”
She took it with her fork.
Orville put down his fork and started to talk about the auction.
“I liked the necklace a lot. Only you deserve to wear it.”
“Really?”
She liked his compliment.
“But you don’t need it. Any jewelry will look good on you.”
He said, “Who would imagine a gentle beauty would take over the Longfellow Group in one day? Neat!”
Janet laughed.
“You are exaggerating it.”
She was humble.
“I mean it.”
Orville could feel she was unhappy. He wanted to make her feel better bit by bit.
“Thank you for bringing me out for dinner tonight.”
She smiled happily. Orville was fascinated by her smile.
He took another sip of champagne to suppress his emotions.
“It’s my honor.”
The manager came to serve them the food.
“The rainbow trout is from the Pacific rim. Our master chef cooked it with snow water from the top
mountain in the western area. The sauce is imported from Italy with a specific flavor. Good appetite.”
The manager was professional.
Orville was interested, “It sounds delicious. Let’s have a try.”
Looking at the redfish, its white soup, and the hot steam, Janet remembered the days before Nathaniel
and she got married.
They’d had some good times.
This was his favorite dish. She asked many people to get the recipe.
It took her a lot of effort to get rainbow trout.
Every dinner, the fish was on their dining table.
She couldn’t remember how often she cut or burnt herself while cooking.
However, he had never tried.
“Jill?”
“You don’t like the bones?”
He took out all the bones and gave her the white meat.
Janet looked at Orville.
He was the same as old Janet.
Nathaniel could turn a blind eye to her love, but she couldn’t do the same to Orville.
“Thank you. Sounds delicious. Let me try.”
She lowered her head to eat the fish, but her eyes blurred.
Orville noticed it. He asked, “How are you?”
“I’m fine. It tastes good.”
She smiled but didn’t raise her head.
“Wow. It tastes like heaven.”
Orville tried to liven up the atmosphere.
Janet laughed.
The fish was delicious.
She had cooked this dish countless times, but she had never tried it once.
The melodious music suddenly sounded.
Two men walked to their table.
“Miss Longfellow, Mr. Southey.”
The first man handed a large bouquet to Orville.
“What…”
Janet was a little confused.
Orville stood up and handed over the flowers to Janet, “I’m sorry I didn’t get you the necklace. This is
compensation.”
There was an exquisite blue box on top of the bouquet.
The flowers were red roses.
Janet frowned slightly, “I’m so honored, Orville. But I’m not ready for a serious relationship. Sorry.”
She was not ready.
She didn’t want to hurt him.
Orville lowered his head. He was upset.
He reminded Janet of herself. She was like him when facing Nathaniel.Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
