Next One Is a Babe

Chapter 2004

Chapter 2004

After all, nobody would befriend her unless she had something they wanted. Cindy wasn't good at handling this kind of stuff, and it was making her life hard. She only went back when lunchtime was nearly over, but even so, someone came over the moment she sat down. I don't know her. This time, she didn't even bother to smile. "What?"

The lady didn't ask her about the file. Instead, she asked, "Hey, are you Mr. Kaufmann's relative or something?"

Cindy thought about Gary's relationship with Mr. Kaufmann. They aren't relatives. "No."

The lady still wouldn't give up. "He's really nice to you. I've been working here for years, but I've never seen him treating anyone this way."

She's been here for years? That means she's a veteran. Most veterans are calm and collected, but she's different, and she looks young. If she has hung on for years, that means she's skilled. Someone like her is always proud. Why did she talk to me anyway? "I have no idea. He says he likes me."

Nobody believed that. There were a lot of employees in the company, but why did Mr. Kaufmann favor her out of everyone else? Moreover, she was a new employee. It was impossible. He might have never even seen her before. It was obvious that Cindy didn't want to talk about this.

The woman nodded, but she didn't leave right away. "He gave you a top secret file, huh?" NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.

Cindy thought about it before answering, "No idea. I just started working here."

She spoke calmly, but anyone could see that she was getting impatient.

Even so, the woman clicked her tongue and didn't leave. "Can you let anyone else see that file?"

She was being obvious now, and Cindy felt like laughing. But then she thought that the woman was better than those who beat around the bush. At least she doesn't waste my time. Some small talk and she's cutting to the chase, unlike the others, who are too embarrassed to ask me directly. They talk in circles and try too hard to build a relationship with me, just so they can blackmail me emotionally after that. Cindy answered, "Not exactly."

The lady froze up. Cindy could see that she was upset, but she didn't want to get on Cindy's bad side, so she calmed down. "Yeah. Mr. Kaufmann asked someone to compile it. I don't think it's meant for everyone's eyes." She nodded. "Okay, I'll let you get back to work."

Cindy looked away quietly. A clear rejection was better than a vague answer, and she guessed that nobody would harass her anymore, so she heaved a sigh of relief. When it was time to clock off, her colleagues left the office.

Cindy looked up and saw the woman who asked her if she could see the file walking out with a few people. They were whispering, and Cindy could hear that they were talking about the file. She smiled and sorted out the files on her table.

Nobody came to ask her to have a meal together. They knew they couldn't get what they wanted from her, so they gave up. Good. Nobody's going to harass me anymore.

After everyone was gone, Cindy took her phone out and texted Ian, asking him if he was done with work, and if he wanted to have dinner.
