No More Waiting, She Chooses Love

Chapter 630

Chapter 630

"Felicia!"

Dustin's voice, as smooth and pleasant as ever, pierced through the air.

Yet, the moment it reached my ears, it felt like a soft thorn, painfully stabbing at my heart.

How could someone, who appeared so harmless on the outside, harbor such darkness within? To achieve his goals, he wouldn't hesitate to go to extreme lengths.

Suppressing the pain, I went straight to the point, "Dustin, I need a favor."

"Sure, tell me," Dustin's tone was different now. Taking over the reins of the Wagner Group from Conrad had lent him an air of authority.

Seems like your position not only shapes your thoughts but your actions as well.

"Our colleague, Deborah, also a good friend of mine, up and quit her job under some weird circumstances. I have no clue where she is now and was hoping you'd use your contacts to help track her down."

"Deborah?" Dustin repeated, "Okay."

"Thanks, Dustin," I replied, maintaining the same courteous tone as before.

"Felicia," he called out softly, "Can we meet up?"

"Sure, when's good for you?" I agreed readily.

"Whenever you're free," Dustin always had this way of accommodating me. He never expected me to adjust my schedule for him, always looking out for me.

His affection for me was hidden in these small gestures, but back then, my eyes were only for Conrad, and I failed to notice.

"How about tomorrow night? You could pick me up, and we could go see your parents. It's been a while since I visited," I suggested, catching Dustin off guard.

"...Okay, I'll let them know."

After hanging up, I toyed with the small bell on my wrist, murmuring, "Ernest, you told me to stay away from the Wagner family... Why did you want me to stay away? I might not listen to you this time..."

At the department dinner that night, everyone was having a blast, taking turns toasting to me.

Eventually, someone asked why Mr. Collins hadn't shown up at the office.

I had informed Grant about Ernest's e absence but hadn't shared the news with everyone else, simply saying he had left for abroad and wouldn't be returning anytime soon.

As I spoke, the sadness hit me again, leading me to drink more than I should have.

It was Grant who took me home, his voice faint in my drunken haze, "Ernest would have scolded you for not listening."

But he's gone...My Ernest is gone.

The next day, I woke up to the ringing of Grant's phone.

"Director Hudson, have you sobered up yet?" Grant joked.

"Yeah, thanks for getting me home," I managed to say, despite having drunk a lot, my memory wasn't entirely blank.

"Ah, so you remember it was me. Seems like you didn't drink that much after all. Do you recall what I said?" His question jogged something in my memory.

But strangely enough, I couldn't remember clearly, so I asked him, "What did you say?"

"I said a lot of things," Grant teased.C0pyright © 2024 Nôv)(elDrama.Org.

That's just like him. Plus, if I was drunk, how could he have said anything of significance? I wasn't that curious.

"Calling me this early, you're not just

checking up on me, are you? If Mr Smith has work, just assign it. I'm ready to get back to work," I said, glancing at the clock. It wasn't even nine yet.

"No worries, you can take another day off if you're not feeling well. Whether you're here or not, it doesn't really make a difference," Grant's words seemed to carry a hidden jab.

Swn

But I knew he didn't mean it that way. He was one of Ernest's guys, and under his wing, I was allowed the same freedoms as under Ernest's.

He couldn't possibly be calling without a reason. Recalling his words as he left the office yesterday, "You had something for me, right?" "Not at all," Grant surprisingly denied.

I frowned. His demeanor when he spoke to me yesterday was serious, not the kind to joke about, yet now he changed his tune.

As to why, I didn't want to dwell on it, simply responding, "Well, that's good then."

"Yeah, no worries. Go back to sleep," he said, hanging up.
