Chapter 197: Give This Back to You! Who Cares!
Chapter 197: Give This Back to You! Who Cares!
Joseph’s face clouded over and shook off her hand.
“What are you doing? You scared me out of my wits.” Hayden gave him a disgruntled look.
“Didn’t you say that we broke up? Then why are you still touching me?” Joseph’s voice was cold and full of resentment.
Hayden seemed to have taken it for granted, “Otherwise, how do I unlock it? Don’t be so fussy about it, okay?”
“You can just ask for the password.”
There wasn’t only a method for unlocking the phone.
Hayden was a bit speechless as she turned off the phone and asked him, “Alright. Tell me. What’s the password?”
He paused for a second and said in the cab, “Your birthday.”
Hayden was stunned.
She thought that they were pretty sensible and not even having much romantic for their loved ones. She didn’t even check her boyfriend’s phone or email like other ordinary girls.
They needed to have some personal space too.
So this was the first time she knew that the password of Joseph’s phone was actually her birthday date.
The cab quieted down, and they could even hear the sound of waves lapping on the reef outside as well as the evening breeze whistling through the hills. She was disbelieving as she typed her birthday.
It fitted perfectly.
And so inevitably, she called to mind the time when Joseph celebrated her birthday together with her this year. They left the cemetery after paying tribute to her mother. And he was still holding her hand that time and being so confident in front of Scarlett.
What did he say to Scarlett back then?
There was once she had a doubt about it in her mind, but the two of them clammed up about it. And she had no answers from them.
“Going where?”
Joseph’s clear voice sounded as if nothing was wrong.
“Oh. To Sea View Town.” Hayden came back to her senses, looking at him, and she just remembered to call Alayna Cole.
The sound of the engine overshadowed the sound of the wind. Hayden examined the phone and rolled her eyes at Joseph, “Your phone doesn’t have a signal too, isn’t it? How am I supposed to make a call with it?”
Joseph frowned, “When did I say that my phone got signal?”
“Aren’t you rich and have GPS on your phone, which is different from us?”
Joseph was speechless for Hayden’s argument.
“Ms. Downey, in your eyes, does the rich have to drive his own?”
At this moment, wasn’t that the rich driving and bringing her to find the way?
As they were bickering, the car chugged suddenly, and they were slowing down.
Soon, Joseph stopped the car by the roadside. They just moved on for less than a minute, and Hayden’s Audi still could be seen parked right behind them.
“What’s wrong?”
Hayden was puzzled, and Joseph pointed at the fuel gauge, “We’re out of fuel.”
The fuel level warning light had already come on, and it was empty now.
“Oh my gosh. What kind of person are you?” Hayden couldn’t believe it, “The fuel level was low already and why didn’t you refuel?”
Joseph was melancholy, but he changed his face after hearing her words, “Wasn’t it because of you?”
There was a gas station after he went to the rest area on the highway. But he turned back after receiving the call from Kevin Jackman. He rushed all the way and had no time to refuel.
Hayden calmed down after he roared.
She was vexed, looking at Joseph’s angry face.
How could she explain her feelings of excitement and disbelief when she met him in this deserted place?
How could she explain about her pretending to be aloof and reserved just because she didn’t want to give up on her self-esteem easily in front of him?
And how could she explain that she couldn’t have a good night sleep without him as she initially thought his existence was both a blessing and curse for her?
Joseph seemed to have calmed down after a moment, “Stay here first. In the next morning at dawn when there are trucks passing by this road, I have a plan.”
After saying this, he glanced at Hayden, “If you’re tired, get some rest at the back of the car.”
Joseph’s car was a modified business car. The backseat could be adjusted into a temporary bed, which was quite spacious.
“Oh.”
Hayden responded and moved to the backseat.
As she was just done adjusting the seats, a suit jacket, tinged with his perfume scent, was thrown at her from the front.
Hayden was stunned, holding the jacket for a while and said, “Thanks.”
Joseph grunted, folding his arms in the driver’s seat with his eyes closed.
And Hayden also laid down.
The sunroof was opened, and she could see a full moon through the layer of glass.
“How did Alayna contact you?” This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.
Hayden asked suddenly as she was trying to check on whether Joseph had fallen asleep.
Joseph just revealed half of his head at the driver’s seat. Her voice echoed in the car for a while. She thought Joseph was asleep and didn’t hear it, but then she got a response from him.
Joseph’s voice was muffled, “Kevin called me.”
Kevin?
Hayden didn’t expect that Alayna would contact him again.
Joseph seemed dissatisfied and said bluntly, “It was urgent for the matter this time, and that’s fine. But if Alayna really wants to break up with Kevin, stop giving false hope to him. It’s no good to be loathsome.”
Hearing this, Hayden frowned as she propped herself up on her elbow on the cushion, looking in front, “Alayna is not that kind of person. She said to break up and she meant it. She would never dangle about him deliberately. Don’t slander my friend.”
“Slander?”
Joseph sneered, “As far as I know, Kevin and your friend didn’t have any quarrel or argument. You can see with your own eyes that how much Kevin changed. If she wasn’t just picking up guys for fun, then why didn’t she accept when Kevin proposed to her? So that’s what you guys do? Done freeloading us and leave?”
And his words were obviously referring to her.
Hayden was blue in the face, “Whom do you mean that? You better make this clear and don’t point at one but abuse the other one. That day at the Beckham’s house, it was you… you…”
Hayden felt heartbroken for it when thinking about that incident, and she still couldn’t speak it out after several attempts.
She gritted her teeth, red-eyed, and then smashed Joseph’s jacket at his head, “Give this back to you! Who cares!”
As she said, she pushed open the car door and went into the dark without looking back.
Joseph remained silent in the driver’s seat. While watching her fading away, he finally gritted his teeth and went after her,
“Hayden.”
“Let go of me.”
“It’s so late and you’ll get into trouble wandering around.”
“It has nothing to do with you.”
“Do you always have to talk to me like this?”
The man’s indignant voice echoed in the wilderness.
