Chapter 238: I Killed Someone

Chapter 238: I Killed Someone

Samuel felt that he must be experiencing rotten luck. Before he even managed to meet who he wanted to, he had already got beaten up out of nowhere. He knew he couldn’t afford to offend Joseph, but he couldn’t hold himself back.

Once this lamp hits Joseph, his head would definitely split into two.

He was busy envisioning Joseph’s head splitting into two, and imagining himself boasting to everyone how he managed to teach this arrogant young master a lesson.

Nevertheless, imagination was always more wonderful than reality.

In reality, before the lamp had even touched Joseph’s head, Samuel felt something on the back of his own head. Following that he felt a stream of hot sticky liquid trickling down his neck.

Behind him, Hayden, with her face as pale as a ghost, was holding a steel pipe.

Samuel turned around to look at Hayden in shock.

“Plonk.”

The steel pipe fell to the ground and rolled away noisily, joining a bunch of sex toys in the corner. Samuel blacked out before managing to utter a word, and fell straight from his bed.

“I… I killed someone…”

All blood drained from her face, Hayden stared down at her own hands, her legs felt heavy and she couldn’t even move a step.

“So much blood…” Hayden’s head started ringing, her vision blurred, she couldn’t focus on anything, and she couldn’t stop mumbling ‘blood’.

Before she managed to revert back to her senses, she felt her body being enveloped in a warm and tight embrace, till she almost couldn’t catch her breath.

Joseph held her tightly in his arms, as if he was hugging a treasure that he had lost, and buried his head in her shoulders. His anxiety only dissipated a little when he made sure that Hayden was indeed the one in his arms.

Before she appeared in front of him, he had once thought he would never be able to see her in his life anymore. Samuel’s words had made him believe something terrible had happened to the love of his life.

Very soon, police sirens sounded outside the window. The police cordoned off the crime scene and started bringing away the eye witnesses. When Hayden was leaving Joseph’s arms she was still at a loss. She hadn’t even managed to utter a word to Joseph before she was taken away.

“Name.”

“Hayden.”

“Age.”

“25.”

“…”

After the routine questioning, the police retrieved Hayden’s information from the archives and gave her a surprised look, "Are you not Chinese?"

Hayden nodded and explained, “I grew up in China but moved to America 5 years ago. This matter doesn’t have much to do with me. You can ask whatever you want to, but don’t alert the embassy.”

Since she is American, if this was a serious case, the police had no right to deal directly with her.

The police nodded and asked, “So tell me, what happened over here?” Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

“Here’s what happened.”

Hayden recounted the whole incident truthfully.

“I do not know the reason he asked me to meet at the hotel, I do not even know this hotel, umm… oh yes, I was the one who made the police report.”

“So, what is your relationship with the man who was beating up the victim?”

Hayden was slightly taken aback, “He…”

While she was still hesitating, there was a sound of knocking on the door and a slightly older police officer opened the door, “Hayden can leave.”

The officer responsible for interrogation looked surprised, “Sir, I have not finished taking my report notes.”

“You don’t have to do them anymore, the matter is settled, she can leave.”

The police officer’s expression was hard to read. The interrogating officer was not dumb, he immediately got up, “You may leave, Ms. Downey.”

Hayden knew she wouldn’t be here for long, because Joseph’s social status and position wouldn’t allow her to stay in this place for an extended period of time.

She saw Joseph when she walked out from the police station.

He had some injuries on his face and a bruise on the corner of his lips. She must have distracted him when she called his name, allowing Samuel to land a punch on his face.

Hayden bit the bullet and walked over to him, feeling awkward and not knowing what to say.

They hadn’t met for some time since their breakup. They had even been avoiding each other at some events and banquets in Nanking.

No one would have imagined they would meet in this sort of situation.

“Let’s go, Magnus has drove the car here, I’ll send you back to the hotel.”

Joseph said with a hoarse voice, and he left right away after finishing his words.

Slightly startled, Hayden hesitated for a few seconds before following him.

The car left the police station, and drove into the bustling traffic in Shanghai. Compared to Nanking, this city was much busier and more prosperous.

“To where?” Joseph asked when he got onto the car.

Noticing the dried clot on the corner of his lips, Hayden hesitated for a moment before answering, “Let’s go to the hospital first.”

“No need for that.” Joseph frowned, “Just a little bruise…”

Before he finished his sentence, he started coughing heavily.

Hearing Joseph’s coughs, Magnus who was driving the car glanced at his rear-view mirror, and said anxiously, “Ms. Downey, he is not okay, Mr. Beckham broke his ribs from his previous fight with Edison

Godfery. He should be recuperating in the hospital, but now, he has suffered new injuries when the old ones have not even recovered.”

“What?” Hayden’s face changed, “His injuries were so serious?”

“How can it not be serious, Mr. Beckham …”

“Magnus,” Joseph’s crisp voice cut off Magnus’ mid-sentence. A cold air lingered in the car, “You are getting more and more talkative. Just drive the car.”

Magnus shut his mouth as instructed, and followed Hayden’s instructions to drive to the nearest hospital, the speed was fast.

Joseph furrowed his brows, not wanting to be nagging on Magnus again. He was just thinking this guy was getting bolder, refusing to even follow his boss’ instructions now.

There was silence in the car for a while. Hayden lowered her head, rubbing her knees awkwardly.

“Oh yes, why did you get into a fight with Samuel in the hotel?”

Samuel had a good family background, but that was only limited to Shanghai. Compared to Joseph, they were of a totally different tier. Hayden wondered whether Joseph even knew him.

Joseph’s furrowed brows deepened. It seemed that he didn’t plan to explain to her.

“Have you been following me?”

Hayden continued questioning him, “You entered the hotel at about the same time as me, if I hadn’t gone to the wrong floor, I would have arrived first at the scene.”

The loud man from Dongbei Province who was blocking the doorway mentioned that Joseph and Samuel had started fighting because of his fiancée. That was why Hayden couldn’t help but think this

way.

If this ‘fiancée’ was referring to herself, and if she had arrived at the scene first, then Joseph and Samuel starting a fight would seem more logical.

“You’re overthinking.” Joseph denied her theory naturally.

Hayden looked at his serious face, she suddenly got a playful thought and said meaningfully,

“If it isn’t for me, then I am very curious. Mr. Beckham, why were you in a love hotel?”
