Chapter 23
Eventually, the board meeting ended with Mikayla’s victory. Shawn stormed out, his face dark with anger.
“Mr. Salvatore, Mikayla’s business acumen is just like yours back in the day!” Gavin complimented.
“She’s still too arrogant and needs more training,” Jorge replied, though he couldn’t hide his proud smile. Seeing Shawn, who had become less respectful in recent years, look so frustrated gave Jorge immense satisfaction. He was pleasantly surprised Mikayla had managed to put Shawn in his place.
“New talent rises with every generation! It’s time for us to step back and let younger folks take the lead,” Arlan Lincoln. another shareholder, said cheerfully.
“Absolutely! Listening to Mikayla’s passionate speech took me back to my own ambitious youth, Gavin agreed with a laugh.
When Mikayla and Quinnlyn finished packing up the documents and left the conference room, Mikayla’s phone rang. She checked the time; it was already five o’clock. Time flies!’ she thought.
“There’s nothing else to do today. You can get off work carly, Mikayla said, handing the documents to Quinnlyn. She picked up her phone and headed for the elevator in the corner. “Wait for me downstairs,” she said.
Juliet parked the car outside the building. Seeing Mikayla, she rolled down the window and waved
“How was your
ur first day at work?” Juliet looked at Mikayla, who sat in the back seat with a tired face.
Not bad, Mikayla replied, relaxing in front of Juliet. She leaned back, rolling her shoulders to relieve the tension.
“Seeing your ravaged look, I thought you had gone to the battlefield, Juliet joked.
“Almost. Let’s grab some food first,” Mikayla said weakly. She hadn’t felt hungry while busy, but now her stomach growled.
“Okay. Let’s go to our usual spot. After dinner, I’ll take you to a spa and maybe buy you a new outfit. How’s that?” Juliet suggested.

“Look at what you’re wearing! I’ll take you somewhere fun later, Juliet said, glancing at Mikayla’s business suit in the rearview mirror with a hint of disdain.
“Whatever! I’m gonna nap first, Mikayla replied, leaning back in her seat.
When Mikayla and Juliet came out of the spa center, Xosa was already shrouded in dusk. But the lights were still bright and colorful, and the real night had just begun.
“Where are you taking me?” Mikayla asked. They stood outside a seven-story building, loud music blasting from inside. Juliet grabbed her arm and raised an eyebrow. “I did some research. There’s something fun in here!”
Mikayla had never been to a place like this. She had gone to bars with Juliet before, but she had heard about this place. It throbbed with strong drumbeats, crowded with noisy people, sexy dancers, and wild young men. Dazzling lights flashed everywhere, mingling with the scent of alcohol, the sound of clinking glasses, and scenes teetering on the edge of chaos.
Septem Nightclub was the biggest and most luxurious club in Xosa. The first floor was a bar open to everyone. Floors two through six were for VIPs, and the seventh floor was exclusive to VVIPs. Being on the seventh floor symbolized not only wealth but also status.
As Juliet led her effortlessly to the seventh floor, Mikayla asked, “So, do you come here often?”
“No way, I wouldn’t dare. I came here just once when I was in a really bad mood,” Juliet said, holding up one finger with an
apologetic smile. Mikayla was like a best friend and older sister to her. Unlike with her family, Juliet always listened to Mikayla.
“You didn’t bring me here just to cheer yourself up, did you?” Mikayla believed Juliet, but seeing her friend’s eager yet nervous look, she suspected Juliet had something exciting and maybe a bit scary planned.
