Chapter 473 I Trust In My Younger Brother
"Lily, don't worry. Rashad may have to work overtime these days. Have a good sleep. Everything will be
fine after he's on track."
After the Old Riley finished, he turned back to his bedroom and went to bed.
Lily clenched her fists. What a tricky rival Drake was!
When Rashad came back, he had been fatigued. As he found Lily was still waiting for him, he asked,
"Mom, why are you still up?"
"I'm just waiting for you."
"You don't have to. I may come home very late in the coming days."
"How is your plan?"
"Mom, there's no hurry."
It was true.
"But Drake..."
It seemed reasonable that Drake gave lots of work to Rashad to familiarize himself with the company
business, but in fact, Rashad was doing all the work of an assistant.
Although it was a bit tiring, Rashad did learned something from it.
"Mom, I know why he did so. On the one hand, Drake wants to behave well in front of Grandpa. On the
other hand, he doesn't want me to go to Sophia. It's not a big deal. I can handle it."
Everyone said offending Drake was the last thing they would do. Thus, Rashad had prepared a lot Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
before he came back.
Naturally, the battle between him and Drake was still difficult for him.
Now that he had made up his mind, he would never give up.
"Please make time for rest."
"I will. No worries, Mom. I gotta go to sleep now as I should go to work early tomorrow."
Lily felt distressed for him, but she knew he had to experience these phases.
For many days, Rashad worked hard from morning to evening, while Drake was free every day and
went to see Sophia at his leisure.
Then rumors started to circulate that Drake was hypocritically treating Rashad well, but Drake was
actually afraid that Rashad would fight with him for the property and thus exploit Rashad.
The other voice said that Drake didn't allow Roman to join the company because he was afraid that his
power would be taken away.
Everyone began to be suspicious of Drake. They wondered what type of person Drake was and if he
was capable of being the president of the Riley Group.
Although Drake didn't want Sophia to hear the rumor, she eventually found out about it. Of course, she
knew it wasn't true, but she couldn't allow the matter to get any worse.
"You'd better not come to see me if there's nothing important."
Drake looked at her, smiling, "Do you dislike me?"
"No. You've heard about the rumor, right?" asked Sophia.
Drake was relieved to know Sophia made the suggestion out of concern for him.
"Sophia, if I don't treat Rashad in this way, there will be some other rumor. For instance, 'Drake is wary
of Rashad and doesn't offer him any job' or 'Drake seems to allow Rashad join the company but
actually seeks for a chance to throw him out.'"
Sophia never thought of these.
She didn't think of it in that way.
"So whatever I do, there will be objections. Now that I can't avoid them, I might as well ask him to do
more work so that he's too busy to bother you. Don't you think that's a good idea?"
Sophia burst into laughter, "You're too petty, aren't you?"
"So what? You are my wife. I think I'm doing the right thing."
Sophia nodded, "Sure, you did nothing wrong. But I don't think the members of your company would
spread the rumor about you and Rashad because he's only new here. It's impossible for him to have so
many people supporting him."
"You're right. He's spreading the rumor about himself."
Sophia looked upset.
"Are you disappointed in him?" Drake asked.
"My impression of him is that he is a senior who has always behaved with integrity and has disdained
dirty tricks. I've often thought about this and wondered if that's the way of the world or if people just
change!
Drake knew she was not only talking about Rashad but also Julia and the people she used to know.
Drake walked to her and held her in his arms gently, "Sophia, we're grown up. Our lives change and
people change. Whatever the answer of your question is, all we can do is to accept it."
Yes. They had to accept the reality.
The comments about Drake got worse and led to his reputation being tarnished.
Lily told Rashad secretly that he was doing right. Now that he couldn't find a good chance to use
Sophia, it was better to strike a blow at Drake directly.
Rashad arranged some journalists who were waiting outside to interview him.
"Mr. Witt, we heard that Mr. Riley had you do a lot of work as you just came back. You can't even take a
break. What do you think?"
Rashad replied calmly, "First, it's a family matter. It's private. Secondly, I don't think there's anything
wrong with Drake. In fact, he just wants me to get familiar with the business as soon as possible. That's
why he asked me to do a lot of work."
"Have you ever thought that Mr. Riley is deceiving you. He just exploits you with such an excuse. What
do you think?"
"I trust in my younger brother. He's not that type of person."
A few simple words endeared Rashad to the media, with journalists from each website standing up for
him.
For a time, Rashad's position of weakness earned him recognition and sympathy from all.
His support for Drake made people think that Drake just deliberately made things difficult for Rashad.
Drake, however, offered no explanation for this.
Many people who worked for Drake knew that he was not very good at explaining things. They all
thought the comments about Drake were outrageous.
Although they were afraid of Drake when they were working, they found that Mr Witt, the new vice-
president, who seemed gentle, was actually more terrifying than Drake.
If only one of them could take charge of the company, they preferred Drake rather than Rashad.
Rashad even made time to go to Drake's office.
"Drake, I don't know what I said would get you into such trouble. I'm so sorry."
It was an apology, but Drake didn't feel his sincerity.
"It's not a big deal. A clean hand wants no washing."
Drake looked calm.
Rashad squinted at Drake. A clean hand wants no washing? Seriously?
In Rashad's mind, Drake was just exploiting him with the documents.
But Rashad had to pretend to be very friendly on the outside.
