But it did not matter. To Rashad, he got plenty of time to make the staff be loyal to him eventually.
"Well, I can't keep staying here to bother you. You guys need to work."
Rashad smiled, "There's no rush. As I said, you can stay here as the vice president."
"You can save it for someone else. I have not spent much time with Sophia since we were married. I've
decided to stay at home being a house husband."
Drake must be a real tough guy to say such things out loud without feeling awkward.
"But Drake, you know, she actually..."
Drake sneered when Rashad was in mid-sentence, "You think she actually loves you? Rashad, stop
the crap! You can keep playing tricks to make everyone else think that way. But I guess you and I both
know what the truth really is."
They stared at each other. Outwardly nothing was going on between them. Inside was another story, as
if a horrible secret struggle were going on, and something terrible would happen the next second.
Drake looked away first. He stepped forward to Rashad's side.
He leaned over to whisper in Rashad's ear, "Don't go overboard. You will go down if you ruin grandpa's
efforts."
Then Drake patted his shoulder, "Rashad, work harder!"
Drake and Paul then walked away in a high-profiled way.
Certainly, Rashad knew that many were not happy about Drake's leaving. It was just the way people
were. They would appreciate anyone who could bring them more interests.
So there was still a long way for Rashad to go.
Plenty of reporters were waiting outside for Drake. Paul stepped in front of Drake to block them for him,
with a bad look.
"Who gave you that right to interview my boss?!"
Look at that! Drake was indeed somebody. He no longer owned the company, it was true, but even the
aura of power from his assistant could intimidate a lot of people.
As the reporters hesitated, Drake held up his hand to indicate that it was fine.
Paul looked at him with a puzzled expression.
Drake walked closer to them, which had never happened before.
There was a smile on his face, but somehow, to many of them, he looked more intimidating than usual.
Was this man, decisive and assertive, going to be nobody just because he lost the Riley Group?
Normally, Drake would ignore those reporters. But today he stood there and said with an overwhelming
aura.
"I know exactly why you are here now. And I know what you all want from me."
"Today, I could tell you here responsibly, that, as the former president, I am truly a bit sad about leaving
the Riley Group. But it's my grandpa's decision and I will respect that. And I also believe that Rashad
would take good care of the Riley Group for me."
"It doesn't matter who will run the company next. The point is, I am confident that the Riley Group will
be the best in the future. As for my plan..."
"Well, not so much of a plan. I just wanna spend more time with my wife, my daughter, and my mother."
Somehow, his words made him become more closer to those reporters.
There was one more thing, of course. It had been expected that he would say something out of anger.
But it seemed like he had made peace with it. Could it be possible that he would be able to move on?
He really would give the Riley Group to Rashad willingly without bad feelings?
Drake took a few steps forward as he said these words. Those reporters automatically made way for
him.
He was not the CEO of the Riley Group. But the aura around him was still very impressive.
The original drafts that they were going to post online needed a rewrite after they heard what Drake
had said. But they were at a loss for how to rewrite.
One reporter saw Drake's departure, and made a call.
"I just uploaded the interview video. What are we gonna say about this?"
This video was sent to Rashad.
Those reporters were actually paid by Rashad to interview and embarrass Drake.
In that video, Drake appeared calm and serene as if nothing had happened. Oh, it was not only that.
He looked like he finally got the time to take a break after leaving his position.
This was not what Rashad was looking forward to. He would only be satisfied when he could see
Drake's unwillingness and resentment.
Rashad had harbored a grudge against Drake all these years, seeing him as the president of the Riley
Group.
He always thought the reason that Drake could be the president was that he wasn't there.
But why did Drake not act as he thought he would when he got back here and took his place?
Rashad wandered, 'Drake was definitely faking it. He must have figured out that I was behind this
interview. So he feigned calmness to deceive me."
"Just write as I said..."
Paul walked behind Drake and then he thought of something, "Mr. Riley, you think Rashad made all
this?"
"He's the only one who would do this."
"He has got the company. What else does he want from you?"
"He must think that I won't let it go easily and will someday come back to compete with him."
Paul had been working for Drake for a really long time and he knew Drake pretty well. He could tell that
this time Drake really wanted to stay clear of the Riley Group.
He went back to take over the company back then for threefold reasons. First, Roman was not up to
this job. Second, he saw Olivia's ambition and he couldn't let her in charge of the Riley family after all.
Third, he just had a break-up and needed something to help him forget the pain.
Paul could tell that Drake had never really been interested in business if it were not for those reasons.
"In that case, he wouldn't quit on being against you after this interview show."
"Whatever."
That was how Drake was. He was not afraid of anyone who tried to be against him, but he also
wouldn't be hard on them if they stopped. NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.
Drake took a glance at Paul when they were nearly home, "You've been working for me for so many
years. Now you can finally take a break. Just take this chance to spend time with Aria."
Paul nodded, "Mr. Riley, just call me if you need me."
"Just go. I have others working for me!"
Paul touched his nose. All these years, wasn't he the only assistant working for Drake in everyone's
eyes? He had gotten used to it. In fact, he would feel less valued if Drake turned to others.
Certainly, Paul knew that Drake put him in a very important position. After all, Drake had trusted Aria,
his sister, to Paul's care.
Drake walked towards the house, ready to take his belongings in. Yet two people walked out when he
approached the door.
