Chapter 1193
Chapter 1193
Gianna trusted Luke, so she didn't tell Sydney that Luke also knew Sean had been pregnant.
She didn't feel the need to tell Sydney. "Mr. Chase will keep Sean's secret anyway."
Convinced of this idea, Gianna had no worries at all. She looked at Sydney and asked, "Ms. Raines, do you think Sean quit the job because the miscarriage hurt her health?"
"I don't know, but it's possible." Sydney responded, giving a worried look.
Sydney didn't have many female friends. Sean and Sharon were her only friends.
Sharon followed Cayden to Jackal City. They had very little contact after that.
Sydney called Sharon a couple of times, but the phone was never answered. Sydney guessed that Sharon must be busy or Cayden had assigned Sharon some tasks, so Sharon could not answer her calls.
Last time when Sydney contacted Sharon, Sharon told her that Cayden didn't trust her and that he wouldn't allow her to follow him around as his bodyguard.
Syndey hadn't talked to Sharon in a long time, so she didn't know what was going on with Cayden or how Sharon was doing. She worried about them all the time.
But she couldn't reach any of them. All her worrying was in vain.
Now she only had Sean around to share secrets with.
With the thought that something might have happened to Sean, Sydney could not be at ease.
"When you found out Sean wanted to resign, did you ask her about it?" Sydney asked Gianna.
Gianna nodded, "Yes, but I couldn't get in touch with her."
"Did she turn off her phone?"
Gianna replied, "No, she didn't, but she hung up the phone. She didn't pick up. I guess she sensed that I would ask her about her resignation, so she hung up."
'Sean didn't want to tell anyone...'
Sydney compressed her lips and got more worried. She was sure that Sean's reason for quitting wasn't simple.
'If she just wanted to take a break, she didn't need to keep it a secret from anyone... Gianna's guess was right... Sean must have quit for a reason... What had happened to her?'
"I see. I'll give her a call later. Thank you for telling me and caring about Sean. You did me a great favor." Sydney temporarily collected her mood and thanked Gianna with a smile.
Gianna waved her hand awkwardly. "It's okay. Sean is my friend. Caring about her is what friends do. Ms. Raines, if you get in touch with Sean, please let us know. We're all worried about her."
"Okay. "Sydney agreed.
"All right. Ms. Raines, I'm going back to work." Gianna gave Sydney a slight bow and then turned to leave.
Immediately after Gianna left, Sydney picked up her cell phone and dialed Sean's number.
The call went through, but Sydney was worried that Sean would just hang up.
If Sean didn't answer the phone, Sydney wouldn't be able to talk to her.
Sydney prayed in her heart that Sean would answer the phone.
Sydney gripped the phone tightly. She was nervous.
Meanwhile, on the other end of the line, Sean was leaning weakly on the bed, her face pale. She was holding a delicate bowl with black soup inside. Sean took a sip of the soup in the bowl. Just as her lips touched the soup, she immediately frowned. She gave a miserable look.
The soup should be hard to drink.
After taking a sip, Sean couldn't drink it any more. She put the bowl down and looked up at the window on the other side of the room. There was a man standing in front of the window.
Standing in the sunlight, the man was covered in golden sunlight. It was hard to see his face.
The man had a tall and sturdy body. He should be a handsome man.
"Mr. Chase," Sean called out to the man in front of the floor-to-ceiling window. The man was standing there motionless. Hearing Sean's call, the man turned around.
It was Luke. After he turned around, his handsome face appeared in the sunlight.
"What's the matter?" Luke looked at Sean and asked in a low voice.
Luke looked nothing like his usual self.NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.
Luke liked to wear fancy clothes, which made him look like a playboy.
Actually, he really never took anything seriously.
For people who didn't know him well, they would think that Luke liked to fool around from his appearance.
But today Luke dressed differently and he looked serious.
Instead of wearing those trendy clothes, he was in a black suit. And his hair was neatly combed, not
os agerated like usual.
Standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, Luke looked like a dominating boss, not a playboy.
He looked a bit like Julien.
If people who knew him well saw him dressed like that, they would be surprised. They would wonder why Luke suddenly changed and what had happened to him.
In fact, Sean was surprised to see Luke dressed like that, too. but she didn't dare ask him about it.
"I don't want to drink this medicine. Can I put it aside?" Sean asked Luke timidly, holding the bowl in her hand.
Luke frowned and replied bluntly, "No, you must drink it all."
Sean made an embarrassed face. She didn't say anything else. She picked up the bowl and drank again. Sean would only ask the question once. She wouldn't make a second attempt.
She knew that if Luke refused her the first time, then he would never agree no matter how many times she pleaded with him. If she insisted, she might annoy him.
Therefore, she wouldn't take the risk.
Luke's frown tightened and his face darkened when he saw that Sean wasn't talking and continued to drink her medicine.
Luke should have been happy that Sean was following his orders. He didn't like it when anyone disobeyed him.
However, instead of feeling happy, he felt upset and angry.
Sean sensed that Luke was upset. She stopped drinking the medicine and looked up at him.
Seeing Luke's grim face, Sean was confused. Her hand involuntarily gripped the bowl tighter.
'Why is he not happy? I haven't upset him, have I?'
Sean tensed, but she didn't dare ask him. She was afraid he would get pissed off if she talked to him.
Sean then lowered her head and pretended not to notice Luke's mood and quietly continued to drink her medicine.
Luke noticed that Sean sensed his moping, but she didn't say anything. This made him even more upset.
