The Alphas And The Orphan

Chapter 55

Sunday 22nd January

Ashton’s POV

All four of us are in shock. Dad orders a guard to take the rogue, whose name we now know is Oscar, to one of the nicer cells on the top floor of the prison. Once he is gone, we all stare at each other.

Dad stands, “so they are after Star. We hoped this day would never come. We thought we knew who the bad guys were and tried to keep an eye out for them. What do you guys think? Is Liam to be trusted?”

Alexei answers, his voice full of conviction, “yes, both Star and I are sure he speaks the truth, and both him and Cam taught by our sides during the attack, but even before that, seeing a man like Liam, breakdown like he did, I understand that emotion was real.”

Dad nods. “I suppose it’s easier for you guys. You’ve only known the truth for a few days. For your mother and I, he has been the enemy for over 18 years, but I agree his story rings true.”

Ace paces the floor, “Ok we can’t wait, Ash contact the gang and tell them to meet us in our office, Lex, get mum, Star, Liam and Campbell to meet us there as well, ask mum to arrange snacks we all think better when we are eating.”

Dad is nodding, “it’s 8:30 now, I can ring some of our allies, ask if they know of anyone recruiting rogues in their area. And meet you after. I will leave you to fill everyone in.”

Dad heads off and we link everyone and head to our office. We rearrange furniture so everyone can sit and hear what we have to say.

our office used to be four separate offices, one for the Alpha, one for the Luna, then one each for the Beta and Gamma, but as there are three of us we knocked all three into one and created six working spaces, all with a desk, filing cabinets and a seating area.

As it’s so big, there is plenty of space for everyone without it feeling crowded. I start the coffee machine and set out bottles of water and juice from the fridge.

Star walks in and greats us all with a k**s. I pull her onto my lap, claiming her before either of my brothers can. “sneaky boy,” she smirks, planting a sloppy k**s on my lips.

once everyone with the exception of dad has arrived, by the time we relay all the information Oscar the rogue gave us, dad has finished his calls and is now pouring himself coffee.

He lifts mum up with one arm and sits in her place with her on his lap. Mum’s eye roll and her mumble about cavemen, eases the tension in the room.

Liam is the first to speak, “I would like to go to Kent, have a quite look, one thing my men and I are good at is searching large areas with nothing to guide us, we also have a friendship with a couple of covens in Kent. As I only have a few men with me, and two are newly mated, I would appreciate the help of a few of your warriors.”

Oliver and Aiden are quick to volunteer. “we are up for a trip. The four of us can be ready to go as soon as you need us.”

Mum frowns, “boys I don’t want you missing school. This is your last year.”

Aiden bows his head to her, “with all due respect Luna, our future Luna’s safety is more important than school, all four of us are warriors, that’s what we have been working towards, we are not planning to go to university and we are all 18. A few weeks off school will not hurt our futures.”

Ace leans forward, “guys, we really appreciate it, but the best use of your abilities is to help us keep Star safe at school. Between the seven of us, we can always have Star in sight if she needs back up.”This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.

The four boys nod in agreement and Lex says, “I agree with Ace. Liam, Cam, how many warriors do you want? I will pick the right guys for you.”

“I think four or five should do. A smaller group will draw less attention. I will also reach out to Alpha Leander on Paxos. He has not told me of survivors from Thalias’ pack, but I don’t really expect them to. They took their role as protectors very seriously, but with Star’s. Permission, of course. I can tell them of Thalias’ daughter and the danger she is now in. He may be more forthcoming.”

Star plays with my fingers. It’s something she does when she is nervous, but when she speaks, her voice is strong, showing no sign of her inner turmoil.

“Of course you have my permission Liam, you are my father and if we are going to build our relationship, then we need to place our trust in each other. I was going to talk to the Alphas about planning a trip to Paxos during the Easter holidays. So please see what you can find out and warn them of our visit please.”

Her shoulders drop a little as she continues, “dad please promise me you will be careful. Don’t take any risks to your safety. I kind of like having you alive and well, you too Cam.”

Liam’s happiness radiates off him. “I promise my polyagapiménos, (darling). There is also something I need to talk to you about before I leave. It concerns my pack.”

“Ok, well, I think we are done here for now. The guys will arrange for our protection at school. I assume we will all be travelling together from now on, right? So we will see you in the morning, and we should head to our suite and let Alpha and Luna get some rest.”

After Bidding everyone good night, Lex and Ace finalise arrangements for school, so I lead Star, Liam and Cam to our suite and Star heads to the kitchen to make hot chocolate.

“Ace the piggy just linked to ask for me to make him a sandwich. Does anyone else want one?”

“Starlight, all three of us are piggies, so you may as well make enough for everyone. Wolves never turn down food.”

I can hear her eye roll from here.
