The Cherished Wife

Chapter 312

Charles gave Peter a sidelong glance, his brow creasing slightly. Peter narrowed his eyes but decided to leave it at that.

Charles finished up his work and hurried to the hospital. Noelle was getting some rest, with her friends Rowena and Teresa sitting quietly by her side. They felt bad about what happened last night. They knew Winter and Annie did not like Noelle, yet they had not been on guard.

Noelle was okay, but Rowena could not help thinking that if she had been more careful yesterday, today might have been different.

When Noelle started to doze off, Rowena gently pulled on Teresa's arm, and they both slipped out of the room, closing the door softly behind them. "What's up?" Teresa asked, seeing the look on Rowena's face. "What's on your mind?"

Rowena bit her lip. "Winter and Annie really crossed the line this time. They used a venomous snake! Can you believe it? If Yevgen hadn't come just in time, who knows what might've happened to Noelle?" Rowena shivered just thinking about how Winter could do such a thing to her dear friend.

Teresa was usually soft-spoken, but she had her limits. She and Noelle were not the type to start trouble, but they would not run from it either. It was clear that Winter and Annie had gone too far this time. "What do you want to do? Tell me!"

"You understand me. I'm going to make sure they learn their lesson, no matter what."

"No thanks!" A frosty voice came from behind Rowena. She froze for a second, then spun around to see Charles standing there.

He looked at Rowena and Teresa with an icy gaze and gave them a small nod. Rowena quickly asked, "Charles? Didn't Noelle say you were resting?"

Charles's eyes narrowed a bit, and

he replied, "I just wanted to

her." He then said, "I appet

"Oh, it's nothing. Noelle is our friend. We feel bad we weren't there when she needed us, and she got hurt," Rowena said. She could see the storm of anger in Charles's eyes and knew that their transgression was a big deal. "I'm really sorry." "That's not necessary," Charles said, waving his hand to show it was not their fault. "I'll take care of Noelle's situation." Rowena and Teresa looked at each other, realizing what he meant. "We'll leave her in your capable hands, then," they said. Teresa pulled on Rowena's arm and said to Charles, "We've got to run. We have other things to handle. We're leaving Noelle with you."

They hurried off. Only when they were far enough away did Teresa let out a huge sigh and patted her chest, saying, "Wow, that was intense."

"Are you really that scared? Charles

isn't going to bite. What's there to be

afraid of?" Rowena tried to tease her, but she could tell there was something off about Charles's mood.

He probably did not blame them, but е he did not seem to trust them either. They Were Noelle's best friends, yet they were not there for her when she needed them yesterday.

"Oh well, it's only normal for him to be upset. It'd be weird if he wasn't!"Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.

Charles watched Rowena and Teresa walk away. He lingered at the door for a long time before finally going inside.
