Chapter 188
Chapter 188
Cordelia didn't wake up until 8 o'clock the next morning. When she went downstairs for breakfast,
Janice was all smiles serving her food. From Janice's smile, she could tell what had happened. She
had probably been pampered by Mr. Evans all night.
Last night, she had temporarily forgotten about her background, but when he left, Cordelia felt lost
again. Even on the way to Proxima Ventures, she felt spiritless, as if the world had abandoned her. It
wasn't until she met Grant that this feeling disappeared.
Grant handed his business card to Cordelia with a smile. Cordelia finally remembered where she had
heard Grant's name before. The last time she had dinner with Thomas, Ronan had mentioned Grant,
mentioning that Grant's wife had cheated on him.
"Mr. Evans told me yesterday that you would be coming in person today. I've prepared all the
documents for you. If I left it to my subordinates, they'd be too slow. They couldn't even get these
documents together in one go." Grant kindly told Cordelia.
"Thank you, Mr. Grant." Cordelia looked at the pile of documents in front of her.
She suddenly understood what Ronan meant by "you don't understand." If he had just given her the
contact information of his subordinates, they wouldn't have known who she was and would naturally
drag their feet—going straight to Grant saved time and improved work efficiency. It seemed that even
though she had always insisted on being independent, she had accepted his help to some degree. Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
Even her chance to go to the Audit Department was because of his help!
Thinking about her previous self-pity, Cordelia felt at least he was good to her. Life didn't seem so bitter
anymore.
This was the first time Grant had met Cordelia. She was a breath of fresh air in the world of the
wealthy, her eyes full of starlight and hope. After Cordelia left his office, Grant sent a message to
Ronan. [Mr. Evans, you have excellent taste. Her beauty is unique and extraordinary.]
Ronan simply replied. [Flattered.]
When Cordelia walked into the lobby of Proxima Ventures, she was surprised to see Jamie coming
towards her. Upon seeing Cordelia, Jamie immediately smiled. "Cordelia."
"Mr. Colby?" Cordelia was surprised to see Jamie here.
"What are you carrying?" Jamie asked, seeing the stack of documents in Cordelia's hands.
"Oh, our Audit Department is auditing Proxima Ventures' finances. The accountant asked me to pick up
the documents," Cordelia replied. "What brings you to Proxima Ventures?"
"Oh, no reason," Jamie's face twisted a bit in embarrassment. He had been working on this project for
a long time and was about to close the deal when the finance director asked him to come in for a chat.
He thought he was here to sign contracts, but Lumos Enterprises got there first. So, there was no need
to go upstairs.
If it had been someone else who got there first, he might have had some complaints, but not with
Cordelia.
"Do you need help carrying those documents back to the office?" Jamie asked Cordelia.
When Cordelia heard Jamie offer to drive her back to the office, she immediately shook her head. "No
need, cabs are easy to get here."
"Okay." Jamie seemed a bit disappointed. Since there was no need to go upstairs, he left the company.
Back at the Audit Department, Milana praised Cordelia, "You're amazing, Cordelia. Most people need a
long time to get this stuff done, but you did it all at once."
Cordelia didn't respond, but thinking of Ronan's "thoughtfulness," she felt a warmth in her heart.
His experience was indeed rich, and the path he had traveled was even richer than her own.
