Chapter 2021
Chapter 2021
Lowell was at a loss for words. He was the root of all their problems. He felt really guilty for what he had caused. If he hadn't knocked Janice down with a car and killed the child in her womb, Gary would not have to be threatened by Janice just for the sake of saving him.
As of then, Janice wanted Gary to be her boyfriend, and he agreed. How would the matter end up to be? He got a headache just by thinking about it. Gary's shouting instantly snapped him back to his senses.
Even though he was worried, he still needed to face the matters rationally.
"I am sorry, Gary." Lowell could only apologize again. Apart from apologizing, he did not know what to do.
The words "I am sorry" were really cheap, and it could not change anything at all.
"That's enough, stop this already!" Gary's tone was not that nice, but Lowell knew that Gary was not really blaming him.
The two of them had been living together for several years, so Lowell knew Gary's temper well.
"Lowell, let me tell you this." Gary was worried that Lowell would not take his warning seriously, so he warned again, "You'd better stay here and behave yourself. Do not simply make decisions on your own, do you hear me?"
"I understand, I will listen to you!" Lowell replied at once.
"Just stay here, behave, and spend more time with your sister if you could."
"Okay, I will accompany your mom," Lowell said.
"Also, don't think about all the nonsense anymore. I have said enough. This is just a problem between me and that woman. I have to solve it myself." "Okay." Lowell replied.
"Then, that's all." With that, Gary hung up the phone.
Celeste looked at him and spoke softly, "You are not blaming Uncle Lowell."
"Why should I blame him? I was the blinded one. I was brainless. What's the point of blaming Lowell?" Gary was rational, he knew what he had done wrong.
Celeste nodded. The matter indeed was not
Lowell's fault. Who would have known that so many troubles would come from it?
"Is your stomach feeling any better?" Celeste asked again with concern.
"It wasn't painful anymore before I picked up the call just now. However, after listening to the phone call, both my stomach and my head hurts." Gary frowned. "My entire body hurts now. I can't stand it anymore!"
"Should we go back now?" Celeste asked worriedly. She stood up and was ready to leave.
"Forget it, if we go back now, Lowell would probably only feel guiltier when he sees you." Gary sighed. He stared at Celeste with worry in his eyes.
Celeste was stunned too. After that, she shook her head. "For his well being, I think it would be better to not let him know that I know about all these. I will pretend that nothing has ever happened too."
Gary looked at Celeste once more, he sighed. Celeste was truly a kind girl. Even at a time like that, she still thought about other people's feelings.
"Even if he believes that you don't know about it, he will not feel any better. Lowell's emotional burden is still very heavy," Gary said, "This has something to do with the environment he grew up in. In fact, you two have quite a lot in common. You two have been drifting from place to place when you were young, and even had to leave your home country. It's just that Lowell was luckier than you. At the very least, he has met his real family.
As for you, not only have you not met your real family, even Cindy was not sincere towards you."
Celeste's eyes dimmed a little, she looked down, shook her head and said, "Everyone has their own fate. I was lucky to have met you guys too."
Gary's eyes flashed, his gaze met Celeste's. "Celeste, you have changed."
She was stunned.
"You have become a lot more open-hearted," Gary continued to say softly.
Celeste was stunned for a moment, then she shook her head. "Perhaps it's because I have experienced too much, and things are no longer how harsh they used to be for me anymore."
"That's great," Gary said sincerely, "At least, it wouldn't be too complicated. If a person worries too much, it would only make them feel more toilsome."
"That's right." Celeste nodded and changed the subject. "Are you sure you don't want to go back? Do you really still want to continue the trip? You are feeling very unwell now, and you are aching all over. I am worried that it would actually harm your body."
"I'm fine," Gary said, "I know my own body well. I am not a person with stomach problems. My stomach is only in pain because of the alcohol I drank. Furthermore, I usually pay attention to exercising, and I have a strong physique. You don't have to worry about me."
"All right then, hurry up and eat your food." Celeste took some food for him.
The two of them ate quietly. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
The sea in the winter was truly magnificent, and there weren't a lot of boats around.
They seldom went out for sightseeing, and they just read their books quietly or surfed the web in the cabin.
Gary's hangover only subsided the next afternoon. His head was not in so much pain anymore, and his stomach felt slightly better too. His face looked a lot better than the previous day.
In the Jones family.
Lowell had been thinking a lot during the two days after his return.
Grace seemed to have noticed Lowell's frequent absent-mindedness. When she talked to him, he would be in a daze, and she did not know what was on his mind.
It was as if he had turned into a completely different person. He was not the cheerful and enthusiastic Lowell that he used to be.
As of then, Lowell seemed to be a man who was shrouded in haze.
Grace couldn't help but felt worried. After she ate, she told Heinz in private, "I have a feeling that there is a lot on Lowell's mind lately. He suddenly came back, and in these two days that he stayed home, t looks like there is a lot on his mind every time I look at him. He does not smile as much as he did anymore either. Do you want to ask him if anything has happened?"
Upon hearing that, Heinz narrowed his eyes. He thought carefully and said, "He's not young anymore, so I don't think it is necessary to ask. Perhaps he's heartbroken. If that is the case, it will only be awkward if I ask him about it."
"Could it really be a heartbreak?" Grace was unsure as she mumbled. "Lowell has never told me that he has ever been in a relationship before."
"Why would these young people tell us anything? It's not like they will tell us everything. They all have their own worries and their own secrets Do you think that we are still
young as they are?" Heinz said, "We are over 40 years old, the gap
between us is too big."
Grace was stunned by his words. She shivered and immediately touched her stomach.
When she thought about how she was living her early forties while pregnant with a pair of twins, she sighed and said, "That's right, I would always forget that I am a woman in my forties. I always think that I am still in my twenties, and have just gotten pregnant.
Who knew that time would fly so fast. We are both old now. After I give birth to these two, we will be even older.
Time and tide waits for no man. We are both old, so old that we have even lost the rights to ask these young people about the worries on their minds."
Heinz could tell that his wife's tone was getting stranger, so he said hurriedly, "What are you talking about? I did not say that you are old. I just meant that we are not from the same generation. Young people have their own privacy, and we should respect it."
"I never said that we shouldn't
respect their privacy, the problem is that these young people's secrets
seem to be making them feel stressed. Do we really not even have the rights to worry about them?" Grace asked, "Or, could it be that you just can't be bothered about your own brother?"
"No, no, that's not what I meant." Heinz was about to give in to his wife. Her quick rebuttal based on what he said was really scary.
"What do you mean then?" Grace asked again. She stared at Heinz with a sharp gaze.
"What I mean is that we should continue to observe for one or two more days." Heinz smiled.
He wasn't sure if he was thinking too much, but he had a feeling that Grace was especially sensitive for the past two days.
Perhaps she was suffering from pregnancy anxieties. He read from a book once, and it stated that women would always speak with a sharp tongue when they were pregnant, and it could be because they were having pregnancy anxiety.
He was really worried about Grace, and he did not want anything bad to happen to her.
"We will continue to observe for two days. If it's still the same, you would have to talk to him. If not, then I will." Grace looked at Heinz and said with annoyance, "What kind of brother are you?"
She was doing it again.
Heinz was left speechless by Grace.
Every time a child had a problem, his wife would put the blame on him. As something happened to Lowell then, she was blaming him as well. Fine, it was all his fault then. He should be indomitable and prepare everything for everyone, since he was the man.
