Chapter 2089
Chapter 2089
Celeste's chest tightened as she gawked at the car. The next second, the door of the car opened, and Lowell stepped out. When he saw Celeste, he heaved a sigh of relief.
His tall and strong figure walked toward her.
As she watched him slowly approach her, Celeste could no longer stay calm. She bit her lip and said softly, "U-Uncle Lowell."
"Celeste," Lowell said, sighing as he looked down at her. It was clear that he was relieved. "I finally found you."
His tone did not sound like he was blaming or complaining about her. Instead, he only sounded relieved, making Celeste feel even more guilty.
She dared not look into Lowell's eyes. She lowered her head and looked very embarrassed.
Lowell could roughly understand Celeste's personality. He knew that she had a lot on her mind, so he did not blame her at all.
Seeing her haggard and tired look, he could tell that she did not rest well too.
Her eyes were slightly swollen, and her nose was a little bit red. It seemed like she had been out in the cold for some time.
"Get in the car," Lowell said.
Celeste was stunned, and she immediately shook her head.
"If there's anything you want to say, we can talk about it after we return to the hotel. However, if you really don't want to see Gary, he won't show up," Lowell added.
He was very careful with his words as he was afraid of agitating her.
When he mentioned Gary, Celeste's body stiffened at once.
She looked up at Lowell with embarrassment in her eyes. However, there was also a trace of determination.
"Uncle Lowell, I know that it's irresponsible of me to leave like that. But I really want to leave the Jones family. I want to find my own path," Celeste spoke softly.
"Celeste, I know that you still suspect that Gary and Janice had an affair, but now, we have found evidence.
"Yandrea sent an email over from Boston. It's proof that she underwent artificial insemination. Xyrion was the one who paid for it.
"There's solid evidence.
"It proves Gary's innocence. I know you two broke up because of this matter, but now that his innocence can be proven, doesn't that mean you can go back to him now?"
Celeste was stunned. She had obviously not expected that to happen.
She pressed her lips together, and she did not say anything.
Lowell continued, "You might not believe Gary if he were the one to tell you that. The biggest problem between the two of you is that he didn't give you enough sense of security. However, Celeste, don't you think that you should trust him, at least just this once?"
Celeste shook her head. "Uncle Lowell, these things aren't that important anymore."
"Why not? If you have a problem, we can solve it. How can we solve anything if we keep trying to run from it?" Lowell replied, still trying to persuade her.
Celeste pursed her lips and shook her head again. "Maybe... Maybe I just want to escape."
"Then, do you believe the things that I just told you? It's enough to prove that Gary is innocent," Lowell pressed.
Celeste nodded. After a long while, she finally
said, "Actually, it doesn't matter anymore."
She meant it from the bottom of her heart. She really thought that those things were not important anymore. She knew very well what she wanted right now. And, as of now, she felt that she was not worthy of Gary.Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
That was also why she wanted to escape. However, she did not expect them to catch up to her so quickly.
She was worried that she would not be able to escape.
"Celeste, are you sure this is what you want? I think that you don't even know what you really want. I can tell just by how you're walking aimlessly around."
Lowell's words hit the nail on the head. Feeling exposed, Celeste felt embarrassed, and she blushed.
It was true. Celeste did not know how she was going to face the future, let alone the Jones family.
She felt that she was being really awkward. Also, she felt that she was not worthy of Gary's love.
That was why she kept wanting to run away.
She hesitated for a while, then looked up and nodded. "Okay, Uncle Lowell. I'll go back with you to face Gary. I'll personally talk to him."
Even if they were going to end their relationship, she wanted to tell him clearly instead of avoiding him.
She wanted to leave, she wanted to be alone, and she hoped that he would respect her decision.
Celeste had to make it clear to him.
"Great. That's great," Lowell replied. He did not expect Celeste to be so easily convinced, and he felt relieved that she was taking the initiative to meet Gary.
Soon, the two of them arrived back at the hotel.
Lowell brought her to the room where she stayed previously and said, "Gary is in your room. You can go in."
Celeste was stunned, but she nodded. "Okay."
She opened the door and saw Gary inside. He was standing by the window and looking out, cutting a lonely figure.
In that instant, Celeste felt her eyes sting and a pang in her heart.
When Lowell saw her opening the door, he turned around and left.
Seemed to have sensed something, Gary turned around a little and spotted Celeste with just a glance. His pupils constricted immediately, and he turned around to face Celeste.
He gazed at her deeply, and all their memories seemed to flash across his eyes.
Perhaps that was how he felt at that moment.
He stared into her eyes for a long time. None of them spoke, seeming to be in a daze.
Celeste was a bundle of emotions, and she did not know what to say.
However, Gary had already walked over.
Celeste lowered her head and saw Gary's legs standing before her.
Her heart was beating like a drum.
Gary lowered his head and looked at Celeste. When he noticed how low her head was bowed, he could not help but ask, "Was it cold outside?" The moment Gary spoke, Celeste almost cried.
Of course, it was cold outside. Celeste thought to herself.
It was winter.
She had been outside for so long, so of course, she was cold. However, she had nowhere to go. She did not want to come back either for fear of being found.
Celeste knew that she was behaving rather awkwardly.
However, she did not have any other choice. She could not stay.
Seeing that Celeste did not speak, Gary stretched out his hand to place it under her chin and tilt her head up.
He did not expect that Celeste would suddenly take a step back to avoid his touch.
Gary's hand froze in midair, and he seemed a little embarrassed.
He could imagine how much Celeste wanted to avoid him, but when he saw her reacting that way, he could not help but feel sad.
His hand froze in the air for a few seconds. Then, he dropped it to his side. He lowered his head and looked at her, saying in a soft voice, "Celeste, shall we go back?"
"No!" Celeste refused almost immediately.
Gary's eyes darkened when he heard that. "So, you still don't believe me?"
Celeste was silent.
"Did Lowell tell you everything?" Gary asked. "Nothing happened between Janice and me. She conceived the baby through artificial insemination. She must have stolen my sperm."
"It's not because of that," Celeste mumbled, shaking her head.
"Then what is it?" He waited for her answer.
"I don't believe in myself," Celeste replied. She finally looked up, and her eyes were red. Tears welled up in her eyes, but they did not fall.
"Why don't you believe in yourself? Everything has been solved. Do you really want to abandon me?" Gary tried to negotiate with Celeste.
"Gary, let me go," Celeste said. "I'm not good enough for you. I have a bad personality, and I don't trust you enough A lot of times, I don't even trust myself. If this goes on, even if we don't break up now, we'll break up in the future."
Gary closed his eyes as his breathing got a little faster.
Gary chuckled to himself. "You still don't trust me. Even if nothing happened between Janice and me she still touched me. She was able to get my sperm to make a test tube baby. That shows that I'm not that innocent too."
Celeste was stunned, and she did not say anything.
However, her expression betrayed her.
Noticing her expression, he smiled bitterly. "It looks like I'm right. You really do care about this matter. No matter what, you can't get over it, right?"
She nodded. "No, I can't. I don't think
e
that I can overcome the barrier in my heart too. So, please, don't force me anymore, okay?" "What about your studies? I can give you your freedom when it comes to our
relationship, but what our
studies? Are you going to give up halfway?"
His words made her feel even worse.
Gary was right. Celeste thought to herself.
What about Celeste's studies?
She could not just give up halfway, could she?
She had thought about it after she left the Jones family. If she continued to behave like that, she would completely abandon her studies.
However, when he asked her that question, Celeste realized she could not answer him at all because she felt guilty.
