Chapter 202 Feeling Sad
Seth was already at the restaurant but did not enter the private room earlier because he wanted to see if Lewis would send someone to rescue Josephine. But in the end, no one came.
“Regret? You should ask yourself this question. Since you’ve picked your stand, you should perform well to prove your worth,” Lewis said with a laugh,
Seth sneered at the sound of his words. “I’m no match for Chairman Alvarez when it comes to playing dirty.”
“There is nothing a ruthless man cannot accomplish,” Seth thought to himself before solemnly adding, “Please send someone to clean up this mess.”
Lewis replied, “Great teamwork.”
Seth sneered and ended the call. He had been passive and stayed on the sidelines throughout their collaboration. Now that he had shown up here, he was fully exposed before Lewis. He could no longer be a mere spectator. If he decided not to do anything, Lewis would notice his betrayal and might not let him go. Lewis had orchestrated all these just to force Seth into working with him.
Seth suddenly remembered that he once thought Lewis was not evil enough, but this incident. clearly proved him wrong. When it came to ruthlessness, no one could match him.
It was pitiful that Josephine didn’t know anything. She believed that by coming here, she could acquire information about Mrs. Jinkins. Little did she know that her beloved Mrs. Jinkins had already turned to ashes.
He ran his fingers across Josephine’s cheek and touched the corner of her eye. Tears were flowing down. Seth wondered if she was feeling sad. Drunk people get sad easily.
Seth sat there for a while before carefully lifting the unconscious Josephine into his arms. He skilfully navigated around the pool of blood, stepping over Mr. Walter’s lifeless body. Walking towards the door, he exited the room. As the door closed behind him, it was as if nothing had ever happened.
He carried Josephine back to the house in the old neighborhood and placed her on the bed. In the dark, he gently caressed her soft and delicate cheek.
Not long after Seth had left, a massive fire erupted in the private room, and everyone in the restaurant fled. The fire rapidly spread, engulfing the second and third floors within twenty minutes. It took a few hours to put out the fire. After the fire was extinguished, Mr. Walter’s charred body was carried out. The extent of his burns had rendered him almost
unrecognizable.
The following day, a news article emerged. It was titled, “Newgate Corporation’s Boss Found Dead in a Restaurant Fire.” In the afternoon, when Mr. Walter’s family arrived to claim his
body, they were informed he had already been cremated. Upon learning about this, his family made a scene at the restaurant. The restaurant manager explained that due to the severe burns. that had left Mr. Walter’s body beyond recognition, he had taken the initiative to proceed with cremation. Mr. Walter’s wife threatened to sue the restaurant.
The restaurant manager willingly stepped forward, confessing that he had neglected to conduct the proper fire safety inspection, and announced his intention to turn himself in to the police tomorrow. However, the situation took an unexpected turn when an anonymous individual posted images of Mr. Walter’s death online. These images quickly garnered significant attention, eclipsing the previous buzz surrounding Lewis and Sierra. The news of Newgate Company’s CEO’s mysterious death continued to surface, generating speculation and
intrigue.
Lewis sat on the couch and calmly watched the news on the television. Sierra held a bowl of fruits and sat beside him. She complained, “What’s so nice about the news? Can’t we watch something more proper?”
As she spoke, she pulled down her pajama collar, ensuring that he would notice it as soon as he turned his head. At first, she felt happy because Lewis had stayed with her for the past two days. Even though he spent his time either in the study or watching television, at least he was by her side. The more time he spent here, the greater her chances of winning his heart. She was convinced that he wouldn’t be able to resist her for much longer.
Just as Sierra’s imagination ran wild, Lewis suddenly switched off the television and stood He grabbed his coat and said, “I’m heading out for a bit.”
“Where are you going?” Sierra asked.
Lewis did not reply to her and left without looking back. Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.

Sierra yelled in the direction of the door, uncertain if he could hear her. “Are you coming back tonight?”
Josephine awoke with a pounding headache. She sat up, cradling her head in her hands, but the dizziness overwhelmed her, forcing her back down. Dr. Halliday came out of the kitchen with a glass of warm water and some medicine. When he saw Josephine awake, his face lit up. “Miss Vance, you woke up just in time. Take this medicine.”
Josephine frowned as she stared at Dr. Halliday. She could not remember who he was. She only remembered drinking wine with Mr. Walter. Josephine turned her head and saw some sticky notes on her bedside table. On one of the sticky notes, it was written, “You have Alzheimer’s disease. If you forgot anything, please look at the notebook in the bag.”
Another was written, “Remember to take the pills in the drawer.”
Josephine leaned against the headboard and watched Dr. Halliday’s busy figure. She had a pained expression on her face. Her head was hurting badly.
Dr. Halliday sat beside her and passed her the warm water and medicine. He said, “Take this
medicine. It’s for your stomach. You had too much wine yesterday.”
Josephine took the medicine from his hand and swallowed it. There was a bitter aftertaste in her mouth, and she felt nauseous. She abruptly leaned over to the side of the bed and vomited. Dr. Halliday quickly reached out and patted her back when he saw her vomiting. After throwing up, she took the tissue from Dr. Halliday’s hand and wiped her mouth. She then finished the warm water in the glass.
Dr. Halliday gave her a lollipop and said sheepishly, “I bought this from the supermarket. You can have it.”
Josephine was slightly taken aback. She took the lollipop from his hand and placed it into her mouth. It was tasteless. It was Josephine’s first time drinking, and she had passed out drunk. She could not remember what happened. Josephine bit the lollipop in her mouth and typed with her hands, “How did I come back?”
Dr. Halliday scratched his head and said, “I’m not sure. When I came home, you were already in bed.”
Josephine’s gaze flickered as she pondered if someone sent her home. She ruled out Mr. Walter because he did not know where she lived. Besides Dr. Halliday, those who knew where she stayed were Seth and Lewis. Josephine immediately halted her guess. She had deluded herself with romantic notions too many times.
Dr. Halliday said, “I’ll leave now. Remember to take the pills in your drawer.”
Josephine nodded and watched as he left the room. She leaned against the headboard and rested for a while. Eventually, she lifted the covers and got off the bed. Then, she took the
medicine from the drawer and swallowed it.
Following that, she walked toward the window and drew open the curtains. The morning greeted her with a radiant sun, casting its bright beams upon the dried-up ground. As the sunlight filtered through the window, Josephine felt a hint of warmth.
Unfortunately, the lighting was inadequate on the first floor. Josephine sighed and dragged her weak feet to the living room. She sat on the couch and switched on the television with the
remote control. As soon as she turned it on, she saw the news about Mr. Walter’s death.
Josephine’s eyes widened in disbelief. She had a hard time believing that this news was real. Determined to verify the information, she pulled out her phone and initiated a search. Sure enough, reports about the restaurant’s fire came up from her search, along with unsettling news regarding Mr. Walter’s demise under suspicious circumstances. Someone had posted the pictures, but the images weren’t verified for their authenticity as no one knew the source. As a result, the mystery surrounding Mr. Walter’s death persisted in the online realm. Evidently, the broadcasting platform could not provide testimony, as doing so would only further complicate matters.
Josephine’s headache worsened after she read those news reports. Josephine wanted someone
to tell her what happened after she got drunk, but she did not know who to ask. The only thing on her mind now was that Mr. Walter’s death meant the project was over. Lewis would not tell her about Mrs. Jinkins’ whereabouts now.
Josephine was feeling helpless when she heard the door opening. Immediately, she sat
upright, fixating her gaze on the door. In mere seconds, the door swung open, and a figure stepped inside.
