What Separates Me and You

Chapter 207 We Are Divorced

“Hey, isn’t that your brother? Is he here for a movie with his girlfriend?” Quintin asked.

Josephine froze momentarily at the word “brother.” Every time without fail, this way of referring to him would make her feel like a bloody knife was suddenly plunged right into her heart. She stared at the two figures. Sierra linked her arm with his, and he affectionately held her by the waist. They entered the shopping mall, talking and smiling at each other as Josephine watched until their figures disappeared from sight. Only then did she slowly retract her gaze, recalling that she and Lewis were divorced. This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.

In the past, she could rightfully feel angry or upset upon witnessing such a scene, but now, she no longer had any right to feel sad. Pushing the car door open, she and Quintin alighted from the vehicle.

Quintin grabbed her wrist with the intention of pulling her inside. Unfortunately, he

accidentally grabbed her injured wrist. Josephine winced in pain and took in a sharp intake of breath. She reflexively shook Quintin’s hand off hers.

Bewildered at her response, Quintin didn’t quite know what to do. He looked at Josephine sheepishly and apologized, “I’m sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable-”

Grimacing from the pain, Josephine quickly shook her head. She then rolled up her sleeve, revealing the bandaged wound on her wrist to him. When Quintin saw the bloodstained gauze, his eyes widened.

“W-What happened to your wrist?” he couldn’t help but ask.

Josephine shook her head. She didn’t know either. The feeling of not knowing anything was even more unsettling than seeing Lewis and Sierra canoodling just now.

Quintin stared deeply into her eyes which were crystal clear yet mysterious at the same time. The first time he met her, he could see from her eyes that she’d been through a lot. He craved. to reveal what was hidden behind them, delve into the depths of her heart, and uncover her past. Whenever a man started to feel curious or compassionate toward a woman, it was always the start of his misfortune; the same could be said for women too.

“Let’s go in, then. The movie’s about to start.”

Josephine nodded, pulling down her sleeve to cover the wound on her wrist. She tried her best not to think about all those past events that were messed up. She followed Quintin into the movie theater, holding the popcorn and soda he bought for her. Right after she took a sip of her beverage, her lower abdomen started to ache faintly. The soda was too cold for her. She put down her drink and rubbed her lower abdomen to lessen the discomfort.

Quintin was observant and noticed her movements. Feeling concerned, he asked, “I guess cold drinks aren’t suitable for you. I’m sorry. Let me get you another drink.”

Before Josephine could react, Quintin took away the iced soda and went to the neighboring booth to buy her a cup of hot coffee.

“Lewis, I’d like some hot coffee too.” Sierra’s familiar voice sounded from behind.

Josephine felt as though an electric current had gone through her whole body in one quick moment. She whipped her head around and saw Sierra and Lewis getting nearer to them. Sierra was wearing a mask and a hat. She did quite a good job concealing herself in that getup, but Josephine could recognize her voice and figure. Lewis had put on a black trench coat over his suit. The unbuttoned trench coat made his legs appear even longer. This outfit made his cool features look even more detached and aloof than usual.

At that very brief moment, Josephine felt that the man before her right now was a different person compared to the young boy who wore a simple white shirt back then. 1

When she turned her head, she met Lewis’ emotionless gaze that happened to be directed at her. Instinctively, she averted her gaze.

Then, she heard Lewis say, “You sit here. I’ll get it for you.”

“Okay. Thanks, my dear! I can’t have anything cold,” she replied.

Lewis didn’t say anything. He just nodded and went to buy coffee for her.

Meanwhile, Sierra walked over and sat next to Josephine. She adjusted her sunglasses by pushing them further up her nose bridge and said with a smile, “What a coincidence, Josephine. That guy is Mr. Fowler’s son, right? How amazing of you to hook up with him so quickly.”

Of course, she meant it sarcastically. After all, she was in the entertainment industry, and few people in the industry didn’t know about Damian Fowler. There were even fewer people who didn’t know about his two sons.

Countless female artists went after Quintin, but none of them had been successful so far. Sierra was one of them. She’d previously tried to get close to him, but he didn’t show any interest and gave her the cold shoulder. Even when he knew she was Lewis’ girlfriend, he didn’t spare her a second glance.

Because of his father’s connections, Quintin didn’t have a good impression of female artists in the entertainment industry. He felt that none of them were honest, good women. Therefore, even when a beauty like Sierra approached him, he wasn’t the least bit interested.

Josephine treated her as if she were air. She turned her head, staring at something far away, and absentmindedly stuffed popcorn into her mouth.

Not caring whether Josephine responded, Sierra continued, “Are you learning from Lewis now? Frankly speaking, I think you and Quintin are compatible. Why don’t you divorce Lewis? After all, he doesn’t like you. Quintín, on the other hand, seems to really like you. It would make more sense for the both of you to get together.”

As Sierra said all that, her thoughts went back to the time when Lewis had lied to her about owing money, and she’d even mentioned breaking up. Lewis decisively told her not to contact him anymore.

She wondered what would happen if Josephine took the initiative to suggest breaking up. Would he be just as heartless? Would he leave without looking back too?

When Sierra was silently considering all that, Josephine suddenly turned and looked at her. Her gaze showed that she couldn’t understand what Sierra had said and felt confused.

Furrowing her brows, Sierra asked, “Why are you looking at me like that? Did I say something wrong? You’re already going to the movies with another man. What’s the point of continuing your marriage with him?”

Josephine raised her hand and started gesturing. “Didn’t you know we divorced?” Then, she added, “Didn’t he tell you?”

Sierra stared at Josephine’s gestures, her eyes slowly widening. Although she always claimed not to understand Josephine’s sign language, that wasn’t exactly true. She just never bothered to pay attention to what she conveyed. But this time, she could clearly understand the words Josephine gestured. She even doubted whether she’d perhaps misunderstood.

“A-Are you telling the truth?” Sierra suddenly became agitated. Suddenly, she grabbed Josephine’s hand, unwittingly grabbing the hurt part of her hand. This caused Josephine to wince in pain and furrow her brows.

“Did you really get divorced?”

Josephine struggled for a while before she managed to pull her hand back from Sierra’s grasp. Right then, she raised her head to see Lewis and Quintin standing beside her.

Quintin’s eyes widened in disbelief, unable to believe what he’d heard. Lewis, on the other hand, was visibly much calmer. It seemed as though he hadn’t heard anything as he handed at cup of coffee to Sierra.

“Josephine… Who did you divorce?” Quintin stammered.

Josephine glanced at Lewis from the corner of her eye. Her answer was obvious to see. Quintin didn’t need further explanation. He wasn’t a fool. Josephine’s gaze had already given him the

answer.

She had divorced Lewis. So, she wasn’t Lewis’ sister, but his ex-wife!

Quintin wondered why he hadn’t thought of it. Although Lewis wasn’t part of the entertainment industry, he was still a wealthy man. He wasn’t any different from his father. After all, having a mistress wasn’t restricted to those who were involved with the entertainment industry.

Quintin’s mind was in a mess. He seemed to have understood a fair bit, but at the same time,

he didn’t have an accurate grasp of the situation too. For instance, he now understood the stories hidden behind Josephine’s eyes, but he didn’t understand why Lewis had taken Josephine to the banquet where Sierra was present and even locked her in the car.

Sierra no longer cared about the drink in her hand. She grabbed Lewis’ hand emotionally. Her voice trembled as she asked, “Lewis, is this true? What she said just now… Was it true?”

Lewis glanced at her, then cast a sidelong glance at Josephine. At that moment, Josephine could only lower her head to eat popcorn because she didn’t know how to react.
