Chapter 220 You’re Leaving Me
Josephine turned around stiffly. A Bentley was on the lawn, and Lewis came out of it. He was still in his black trench coat. After getting off the car, he strode into the house, seemingly in a hurry.
Lewis came to the door, and his gaze met Josephine’s. Time seemed to stand still; the only thing in motion was the dust particles floating between them.
Upon seeing this, Phineas immediately walked over and greeted nervously, “Sir.”
Lewis withdrew his gaze and turned toward Phineas instead, taking in Phineas’ contrition. ” Speak.”
Phineas opened his mouth but had no idea where to start from. He resolutely shut his eyes and said, “I’m sorry, sir. I lied.”
Lewis kept quiet. His icy stare was fixed on Phineas, waiting for him to continue.
Phineas peeked at Josephine’s legs out of the corner of his eye. Although she had changed into a looser pair of pants, her swollen legs were still faintly visible.
Bracing himself, Phineas said, “Madam is wounded, and it’s no minor injury.”
Lewis’ eyes flashed. He looked at Josephine’s legs and promptly instructed, “Roll up your pants.”
Josephine pressed her lips tightly. She looked down without a sound and rolled up her pants, exposing her bandaged legs.
Lewis pressed his thin lips together. He didn’t say anything, but his expression changed.
Phineas closed his eyes, awaiting his verdict. However, he didn’t hear anything from Lewis even after a long time. He cautiously said, “Sir, I-”
“Out.”
“Hm?” Phineas was stunned momentarily. He couldn’t catch that.
“I’m asking you to get the hell out of here!” Lewis suddenly raised his voice, startling Phineas.
“Yes, sir!” Phineas almost tripped over his heels on his way out. How he wished he could fly out of there instead!
After Phineas left, Lewis slowly walked up to Josephine. He lowered his eyes to look at her. His lips moved and fell motionless again. It took him quite a while before he asked, “Is it painful?”
However, those words induced streams of tears from Josephine. Tears rolled down her face as she looked at Lewis, her misty eyes full of accusation and sadness.

Lewis raised his hand and touched her face. His fingers stayed where it was for several
moments. Realizing Josephine didn’t shake him off, he raised his finger and wiped her tears.
The more he wiped, the more she cried.
Lewis abruptly bent and carried her bridal style, bringing her to the sofa and putting her down. Holding her ankles, he placed her legs on his as he examined her wounds.
He could see how terrifyingly swollen her legs were even though they were in bandages. Lewis looked up at Josephine. “Josephine…” Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.
Still weeping, Josephine looked at him, and his callousness from yesterday came to mind. Her heart ached. She gestured with her fingers, “What did I do wrong?”
Lewis was at a loss for words.
Josephine gestured again, “I apologize if I’m at fault. Can you please not lock me up in there anymore?”
Lewis stared unblinkingly at her, speechless.
His unresponsiveness compelled Josephine to reach out. She grabbed his arm and shook it.
Lewis stayed silent for a moment. Then, he grasped her hands and stopped her from gesturing further. “It’s my mistake. I’m sorry. There won’t be a next time.
Tears welled in Josephine’s eyes and subsequently ran down her face. She withdrew her hands.
and gestured, “But you’re leaving me.”
Lewis’ face darkened when he read that. The guilt in his eyes vanished in an instant.
Suddenly, he smiled. “Josephine, since when are you so shameless? Who gave you the nerve to accuse me of leaving you?”
Josephine was stunned. She thought Lewis called her shameless because she was still sticking around after their divorce, which was indeed pretty shameless of her.
She pursed her lips and lowered her eyes forlornly. She gestured, “I’m sorry. I’ll leave in a
while.”
Lewis looked at her coldly. “How do you propose to leave in this state? By crawling out?”
Josephine kept her head lowered and didn’t refute him.
Lewis promptly stood and phoned Dr. Halliday to come over.
Dr. Halliday was dumbfounded when he received the call but grew worried when he found out Josephine had returned. Nothing good ever happened when they called for him.
He came to Styx Mansion hastily and saw Lewis taking the bandage off Josephine’s legs. Dr. Halliday was shocked to see the wounds on her legs. “Mr. Alvarez, what happened?”
“Dog bites. Come and take a look.” Lewis furrowed his brows when he saw her wounds. Her calves, where she got bitten, were as puffy as pillows, and her legs had edema due to her injury. The wounds were bowl-shaped. They were swollen and bruised in the middle.
Dr. Halliday immediately put down his bag and squatted in front of Josephine to check her wounds. He gently poked the swelling areas with a finger while asking, “Is it painful?”
Josephine shook her head. She had taken painkillers on the way down the hill, so she wasn’t feeling any pain. They were just swollen.
Dr. Halliday pondered. “You’re probably not feeling the pain because of the painkiller. Your wounds received appropriate treatment, though. You’ll be fine after I disinfect and apply
medication to them.” A thought crossed his mind after he finished speaking, and he asked, ” Oh, right. Can you walk as usual?”
Josephine nodded.
“That’s a relief. Your bones are intact.” With that, Dr. Halliday started treating her wounds.
Josephine sat still on the sofa, the scene before her giving her a sense of déjà vu.
As she stared into space, Lewis’ phone rang. He left Josephine’s side and went to the entrance to take the call.
Josephine cast his silhouette a glance before lowering her head again.
They were divorced, so naturally, it wasn’t her place to enquire who he was on the phone with -in fact, she didn’t have the right to do so even when they were married. The only difference. was she now had no right to feel upset anymore.
The phone call lasted for quite some time. Lewis was still on the phone when Dr. Halliday finished applying medication to her wounds.
Lewis’ slender silhouette walked back and forth at the entrance. Josephine noticed he had finished two cigarettes.
“Alright, Miss Vance.” Dr. Halliday finished dressing her wound. Shooting a glance at Lewis, he asked softly, “Do you remember me?”
Josephine shook her head. She merely thought he looked familiar as images of him flitted through her mind.
Dr. Halliday sighed. “Sigh. You had forgotten about me once more. Then, do you remember your condition?”
Josephine nodded. She read the notebook yesterday.
Dr. Halliday heaved a sigh of relief. “Great. Remember to take your medicine. I see your condition has worsened. Don’t skip your medication, not even a day. You hear me?”
Josephine nodded. She looked around her. Then, she came to realize that she had left her bag
at the office.
Dr. Halliday saw what she was trying to do and immediately took two bottles of medication from his bag. “I brought them along, fortunately. Take two pills for now.”
Dr. Halliday took the pills from the bottle and put them on Josephine’s palm. “You must treat your illness with utmost importance. You mustn’t be negligent.”
He had just finished speaking when Lewis’ sound came from behind. “What illness?”
