Chapter 266 Let It Be
Lewis regained his senses, soon noticing that everyone was staring at him.
He crossed his legs elegantly as he continued to flip through the contract.
Everyone kept staring at him unblinkingly. Those who were slightly more perceptive could tell that he was a little distracted.
Meanwhile, Seth just stared at Lewis, a light smile curled on his lips.
Conrad was the only one who knew very well why Lewis was behaving like this. Josephine was about to get married to someone else, after all.
Robert’s move was deadly, in a sense. If Lewis were to return to Alvarez Manor because of Josephine, he would still be restricted by his father even after stopping her from getting
married.
The fact that Lewis was willing to give up on acquiring Moss Corporation for Josephine was enough to tell everyone that she was irreplaceable to him.
It was also the best leverage that they could hold over him. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
Josephine and Quintin soon returned to the living room.
Nancy could be seen standing next to Robert. The older couple were smiling happily at them.
“You must be Mr. Quintin, right? Do you like Josie?” she asked.
Quintin felt embarrassed the moment he heard her question. He shot Josephine a look before. squeezing out a smile. “She’s pretty nice.”
Nancy couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear. She was still cradling Bambam in her arms, so she continued coaxing him while replying, “That’s great news. Robert and I were worried that she couldn’t get married because everyone might not consider her as a potential wife. Josie is so lucky to have met a nice man like you, Mr. Quintin. Perhaps both of you are meant to be together.”
She continued, “Robert and I can rest easy now that you two are together. I heard that you’re at a suitable age for marriage, Mr. Quintin. Once you and Josie get married, you should strive to have a baby as soon as possible. Look at how adorable this little one is.”
Quintin glanced at the baby in Nancy’s arms subconsciously. Bambam was plump and adorable, not to mention he was blessed with delicate features which greatly enhanced his
cuteness.
The man couldn’t help but allow his imagination to wander for a moment. What would Josephine’s baby look like?
Would it be cuter than Bambam?
The thought of Josephine raising a child made him look forward to his married life with her.
All this time, Quintin kept thinking that children were nothing but a huge burden. Suddenly, he found himself quite open to the idea of having kids with Josephine after realizing they were about to get married. In fact, he was starting to look forward to building their own family.
That was if he could marry Josephine in the first place.
Nancy could tell that Quintin liked Bambam a lot, so she beckoned him over. “Come and take a
look at him.”
The latter paused for a moment, but he still gave in to his urge in the end. The moment he approached Nancy, Bambam started grinning from ear to ear while staring up at him.
He was already sporting two front incisors, so Quintin could see them clearly when the baby. grinned at him. Bambam’s chubby cheeks made him look so adorable that Quintin thought his heart was about to melt on the spot.
“Do you want to try holding him?”
The man was slightly alarmed. “Huh? I-I’ve never held a baby before. I’m a little scared…
Nancy shot him an admonishing look before commenting with a chuckle, “Since you and Josephine are going to get married, both of you will have a baby sooner or later. Aren’t you planning to hold your own baby when that time comes? You should take this time to familiarize yourself with the posture in advance so that you’ll know how to hold your baby once you become a new father.”
Quintin couldn’t help but look dazed after Nancy brought up the words “father” and “baby.” He even started to fantasize about the moment of his baby’s birth.
He accepted Bambam carefully, not daring to move an inch after cradling the baby in his arms. Nancy was tickled pink upon seeing how stiff he acted.
“Oh, dear! Why do you look so scared even though you’re just holding a baby? You’re going to suffer a lot once you become a father in the future, you know!”
Poor Quintin could only smile awkwardly while cradling Bambam carefully in his arms. He could feel his heart melting into a puddle as he stared at the little one’s chubby face.
Robert chose to let out a light cough at that moment. “Let’s forget about the baby for a second. We should prioritize their marriage for now. You’ll have plenty of chances to hold your own baby in the future.”
Nancy seemed to have remembered the actual matter that needed their attention. She had no idea what Lewis’ situation was right now. Did he not know that Josephine was about to get married, or did he decide not to care about her despite having that knowledge?
Then again, it was imperative for the young couple to get married at the City Hall as soon as possible so that Nancy and Robert wouldn’t have to keep worrying about the problems.
“That’s right. Your marriage comes first. If you don’t hurry there right now, the City Hall will be closed, so please give me the baby. You and Josephine should get married first. By the way, did you bring your documents with you, Quintin?”
Quintin nodded hurriedly as he returned Bambam to Nancy. “Yes, I have them with me.”
Ever since he fought with Damian, he never bothered going home. Hence, he always kept hist identification documents with him
“Great! Now, go and get married! Hurry up!” Nancy continued smiling at the couple. She even gestured for the family driver to take them to the City Hall.
Quintin waved a hand in an attempt to turn Nancy’s offer down. “It’s fine. I drove here, so we can just go there ourselves.”
“It’s fine. Let the driver take you there,” Robert interrupted right away. Of course, he didn’t make that offer out of kindness; he needed the driver to witness their marriage in action.
Quintin decided not to say anything after hearing Robert’s reason. He returned to Josephine’s side and took her hand.
The latter didn’t slip out of his grip, but he could still feel the sweat on her palm. Her hand was
clammy.
He didn’t know if she was nervous or afraid of what was about to happen.
Quintin was quite nervous as well. He kept feeling as though he was dreaming about the whole thing. All he did was attend a matchmaking meeting, so he didn’t expect to marry Josephine in
such a hasty manner.
Everything felt surreal to him. Even though he was holding Josephine’s tender hand, he couldn’t shake off the feeling that she was somehow unreal, like a mere illusion.
Robert quickly summoned a trustworthy employee and had him drive the couple to the City Hall. Quintin and Josephine sat in the backseat, both looking very nervous.
Quintin kept sneaking glances in Josephine’s direction. She was undoubtedly beautiful, not to mention she was very compliant. He felt he was committing a crime just by marrying her.
Truthfully speaking, Quintin didn’t know Josephine well. He had only met her a handful of times, after all. He knew very little about her. The only thing he remembered vividly about her was her alluring eyes.
At first, he was curious about her, leading to him wanting to learn everything about her. Then
Well, Quintin had no idea what sort of feelings he harbored for Josephine even until now.
He never dated anyone else in the past, after all.
Soon, the driver arrived at the City Hall with both of them in tow. He turned back to look at Quintin. “Mr. Quintin, Miss Vance, we’re here.”
Quintin looked at Josephine hesitantly. “Did you bring your documents?”
The latter nodded in response. Of course, she had those on her. Robert had someone dig out. her documents before passing them to her before Quintin’s arrival.
“Then, shall we enter?” Quintin’s voice took on a quivering edge, seeing as he was both excited and nervous at the same time. He was also worried that Josephine might end regretting her decision.
up
The young woman didn’t say anything about it. She just opened the car door and got out mutely.
Now that things had progressed to this stage, she had no choice but to keep going.
Robert kept claiming that he viewed her like his own daughter. He wanted to give her a happy ending for the sake of her happiness.
What else could Josephine say about that?
Right now, her identity made Alvarez Manor an unsuitable place for her to stay. The man that she loved would never return to her side.
She might as well just let it be.
That was her only option.
When Josephine and Quintin entered the City Hall, the sky slowly started to darken. Strong gusts of wind suddenly whipped through the city, causing the dead branches and dust on the ground to engage
in a chaotic waltz in the air.
It was about to rain again.
A loud thud echoed in the meeting room.
Lewis forcefully slapped the contract onto the table, prompting everyone to look at him immediately.
They saw him rising from his seat abruptly, a stormy expression on his face. It mirrored the sky outside, which looked like it was about to rain.
A small frown appeared on Derek’s face as he gazed at Lewis in confusion. “What the hell is wrong with you this time, Lewis?”
The aforementioned man pursed his thin lips tightly together while staring down at the contract. He remained silent for a few seconds in that position.
“Are you going to sign this contract?” Derek pressed again.
However, Lewis didn’t answer him at all. A moment of silence later, he suddenly snatched up the jacket draped on the back of his chair and left the meeting room immediately.
Once everyone regained their senses, all they could see was the meeting room door left ajar, and Lewis was nowhere to be found.
