Chapter 268 Get a Divorce

Quintin’s expression was a mixture of sincerity and guilt he harbored for Josephine.

Marriage had always been one’s most important life event. Not only did he marry Josephine behind his family’s back, but he also asked Josephine to leave the city with him, which wast probably very distressing for her. Today might be the day Quintin was at his most rebellious. stage over the past 25 years.

Josephine felt as though she was carrying an invisible burden, causing her not to be able to breathe properly.

At the same time, she could feel warmth pooling up in her eyes inexplicably.

The young woman didn’t care about the materialistic aspects of life. Titles and riches meant nothing to her.

All she wanted was a home.

In the past, Josephine thought that home was wherever Lewis was.

She also thought that he would protect and care for her for the rest of her life, just as he had promised.

Now, it turned out that those things were just meaningless thoughts. They were all pipe dreams she selfishly hung on to for so many years.

The moment Josephine woke up, she realized that she had gotten married to Lewis before divorcing him. Up until recently, she had been staying by his side as someone who was both his ex-wife and his adoptive sister. As a result, she became the butt of everyone’s jokes. 1

Robert couldn’t wait to marry her off to someone else just to secure his son’s future.

Even Lewis transformed into someone whom she didn’t recognize at all. There was a gigantic rift between them that neither space nor time could transcend.

Everything had changed. This world and its occupants were no longer familiar to Josephine.

It was as though the world had abandoned her. She didn’t know where to go after that.

The young woman could only gaze into Quintin’s sincere eyes. She forced herself to suppress the dull ache coming from her heart as she nodded slightly with reddened eyes.

Upon seeing Josephine’s response, Quintin was so elated that he happily wrapped his arms around her. “Yes! Where do you want to go? We’ll leave in two days-no, let’s leave tomorrow!

The man continued, “Once I’ve earned enough money, I’ll arrange a grand wedding ceremony for you! Of course, only if you agree to this in the future!”

He never forgot the reason behind Josephine’s decision to get married to him in the first place.

She was left without a choice. Robert’s oppression was the reason why she got married to Quintin in the end.

Quintin was the only one who took the marriage seriously. He decided to fool himself into thinking that his marriage with Josephine was one filled with genuine love and affection so that he could continue pretending to be her actual husband.

Josephine didn’t respond to him at all. Her eyes were filled with nothing but an empty daze at

that time.

She had no idea where else to go at that moment. Uncertain of how the future would unfold or how she would navigate the present to survive, she felt lost and overwhelmed.

All she knew was that her life was meaningless.

Josephine didn’t care if anything were to happen to her from now on.

Soon, Jack arrived at the City Hall. Quintin grabbed Josephine’s hand, exclaiming, “Let’s go, Josephine! Jack’s here!”

The aforementioned woman nodded before following her husband out of the City Hall.

Jack had parked right outside the entrance. He quickly got out of his car while holding an umbrella. At the same time, he gazed at Quintin happily.

“Quintin! Josephine!” Jack was happy for Quintin because he finally got to marry the woman

he liked.

Despite not knowing how Quintin managed to marry Josephine, Jack would have felt that he was dreaming if he hadn’t seen the marriage licenses in their hands.

Quintin playfully slapped his friend on the shoulder. “Alright, settle down.”

Jack scratched the back of his head while chuckling giddily. “How could I calm down at a time like this? Both of you are officially married! When’s the wedding ceremony? I promise I’ll give you an amazing wedding gift!”

When Quintin heard the words “wedding ceremony,” his smile faded.

He was silent for a moment before saying to Jack seriously, “We’re not having a ceremony for the time being. Let’s just leave it for the future us to deal with. Can you help keep our marriage

a secret?”

Jack was surprised. He wouldn’t go against Quintin’s wishes even though he was baffled.

Alright, Got it. You’re still going to treat everyone to a meal even though you’re not going to host a wedding ceremony, right?”

“Of course. Let’s go.”

Once Quintin was done speaking, he instantly remembered Josephine, which prompted him to ask her, “Do you want to eat with my friends?”

Josephine gestured, “I’ll do whatever you say.”

Her calm facade greatly contrasted with Quintin’s delight, but the latter didn’t mind her lack.

of expression.

“Jack, go ahead and inform the others that I’ll be treating everyone to dinner tonight.”

“Got it! You two should get into the car quickly!”

Quintin was still holding Josephine’s hand. Just as they were about to get into Jack’s car, an ear - piercing shriek suddenly blared.

A black Bentley had sped down the road earlier before screeching to a halt at the roadside. As a result, filthy water was splashed onto the trio’s clothes because of the sudden stop.

Jack was quite displeased by the incident. He shouted in the direction of the car, “What the hell? Do you even know how to drive? Our clothes are stained, thanks to you!”

The Bentley’s door swung open from the inside as soon as Jack’s words fell. A man could be seen getting out of the car.

Everyone was stunned upon seeing the man.

It wasn’t Lewis’ appearance that startled them; it was the sight of him looking quite wretched that took them by surprise.

He didn’t bother bringing an umbrella with him. His hair was slightly tousled and messy, whereas his forehead sported a fresh cut that bled continuously. The blood was quickly washed away thanks to the heavy downpour.

His forehead wasn’t the only spot that was injured. Both his hands showed crisscrossing cuts. as well. The water droplets rolling off his fingertips were all stained in a light shade of red. Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.

After slamming the car door shut behind him, Lewis stalked toward Josephine. He appeared to be a little unsteady on his feet, looking as though the downpour could easily knock him down at any given moment.

Josephine stared at him with a mixture of emotions shining in her eyes. Even her breath was lodged in her throat for a couple of seconds.

She subconsciously backed a few steps away from Lewis when she noticed him approaching

her.

Lewis stumbled to Josephine’s front. He managed to avert his gaze from her face to her hand.

One of her hands remained in Quintin’s grip while the other held a sheet of parchment paper. Lewis could see the words “Marriage License” printed in fancy cursive.

For some reason, Josephine could feel her heart starting to speed up. She tightened her hold. on the marriage license while hiding it behind her back.

Quintin acted quickly by stepping in front of Josephine to block Lewis’ line of sight. “Mr.

Alvarez, Josephine is my wife now. It’s very rude of you to be staring at other people’s wives blatantly.”

Lewis’ intimidating gaze landed on Quintin’s face after that. A swirl of storm-like violence could be seen brimming in his eyes.

He decided to ignore Quint in as he looked past him and focused his attention on Josephine, who stood at the back. Then, he said, “Josephine, come here.”

Lewis’ voice was slightly hoarse and weak. However, he still sounded like he was giving an order and wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Josephine continued to clutch her marriage license tightly without moving from her spot.

Quintin interjected, “Who the hell are you to her? What makes you think you have the right to order her around?”

Lewis tilted his head slightly upon hearing Quintin’s words. Then, he shot the latter a cold and dark glance, not hesitating to reveal his murderous intent.

“Get lost.”

Quintin wasn’t afraid of Lewis at all, judging from how he stood his ground against the latter without the intention to back away. “Josephine is my wife now. You don’t have the right to take her away. Also, I won’t allow you to take her away from me.”

Just as he finished speaking, Lewis forcibly shoved him aside.

Quintin stumbled a few steps away from Lewis as a result of that. Quintin had not expected that shove. Fortunately, Jack managed to steady him in time.

The younger man then turned to glare at Lewis angrily. “Who the hell do you think you are?”

Lewis chose to ignore the other two men. He grabbed Josephine’s hand and tried to snatch the marriage license from her.

Josephine continued to grip the license tightly without any intention of letting it go. Hence, Lewis pried her fingers away from the parchment sheet forcibly before snatching it away.

Then, he stared at the marriage license while letting the raindrops fall onto the parchment paper. Some of the raindrops were mixed with the blood on his forehead, which stained the license in huge patches.

Nothing much was written on the marriage license, yet Lewis stared at it for over two minutes.

Quintin walked over and snatched the license out of Lewis’ hands. “Did you read every word?

Josephine is my wife now!”

“Get a divorce.” Lewis spat those three words out without hesitation, surprising Quintin briefly.

Who the hell gave that man the courage to issue that command?

“You think your order is absolute? We’re not divorcing no matter what!”

Lewis continued to ignore the seething man as he glued his burning gaze to Josephine’s face. I’ll repeat myself one more time, Josephine. Get a divorce.
