What Separates Me and You

Chapter 279

Chapter 279

Chapter 279 Vexation

It was a red winter dress. It resembled a sweater dress-possibly modified-with a ring of white fur at the collar and cuffs. It looked childish.

However, seeing Seth’s steadfast stare, Josephine took the dress and entered the walk-in closet to change.

After she changed, Seth pulled her to the mirror. Standing behind her, he grabbed her shoulders and said, “You should wear such pretty clothing more often. Look how well it suits you.”

Josephine looked at herself in the mirror. The dress made her look younger by several years, like a student in junior high.

Seth picked up the comb again and helped Josephine comb her hair. Josephine froze where she

Was.

She looked at the man behind her through the mirror in a daze. He was several inches taller than her.

Until now, she felt surreal to find out she had a brother. It was like a dream.

Seth slowly helped her to tie her hair into a neat bun behind her head using a red ribbon with two white beads dangling off its ends.

Josephine pressed her lips together. The reflection in the mirror felt strange to her. She wasn’t used to this style of dressing.

However, her current outfit and Seth’s tuxedo looked matching when they stood together.

He seemed to favor outfits of this style.

“Alright, let’s go.” Seth put down the comb, held Josephine’s wrist, and walked out.

Josephine followed him in silence. They walked out of this unfamiliar mansion and hopped inside Seth’s Rolls-Royce.

Seth stopped talking to her and drove toward the hospital.

Lewis was still in the hospital discussing Moss Corporation with Conrad.

After all that had happened, they must sign the agreement.

Conrad expressed his cognizance and said, “I’ll contact Derek in a while, then. We could get him to come to the hospital.”

Lewis picked up his phone and opened his email inbox. He said without looking up, “I’ll leave It to you.”

“Yes, sir.” Conrad was thoughtful. He looked at the breakfast he bought for Lewis. It was untouched.

He was about to persuade Lewis to take some when there was a knock on the door.

Before Conrad could check who it was, the door opened.

Seth held Josephine’s hand as they entered. Seeing Josephine’s outfit, Conrad’s

eyes

widened.

Sitting on the bed, Lewis seemed to sense something and looked toward them. He frowned when he saw Josephine’s dressing style.

“Chairman Alvarez, how are you doing today? I’m here to visit you with Josie.” Seth had on an irking smile.

When Lewis heard how he addressed Josephine, his eyelids twitched. Lewis shifted his gaze to Seth. “Did you make her dress this way?”

“Is there anything wrong with that? Look at her, Chairman Alvarez, isn’t she pretty?”

Lewis expressionlessly scrutinized Josephine for some while before withdrawing his without changing his expression. “What are you doing here?”

gaze

Seth said, “To visit you, of course. Besides, Josie wanted to get a confirmation from you.”

Lewis’ eyes darted between both of them. “And what’s that about?”

Seth replied, “I’m Josie’s brother, but she seemed unconvinced. I suppose you know better about this, Chairman Alvarez?”

Upon hearing that, Josephine looked at Lewis, too, her eyes ablaze. She seemed to anticipate Lewis’ reply.

After listening to Seth’s explanation, Josephine was at least mentally prepared when she saw Lewis’ unfamiliar face again though she still felt slight resistance toward him.

Lewis peered at Seth. “That’s what you told her?”

“Then how else should I put it?”

They seemed to converse calmly, but an intangible war was brewing beneath the calmness. Josephine was unaware of that; she only felt the tension in the air becoming more suffocating.

Lewis was silent for a long while. Seth told Josephine on his own accord, “Look, he admitted it. Remember, Josie. I’m your brother from now on.”

Josephine glimpsed at Lewis out of the corner of her eyes. He used to insist that he was her brother. What was he to her now, then?

After a while, upon seeing no rebuttal from Lewis, Seth said, “Alright, Josie. You can stay back. The chairman looked like he could use someone to care for him.”

Josephine fretted slightly, unsure of how to navigate her relationship with the current Lewis and the role she was expected to play. She intuitively grasped Seth’s sleeve.

Her reaction caused the atmosphere to stifle further.

However, Seth’s beam was dazzling. He intentionally caressed Josephine’s head right before “What is it? You’re the one who insisted on coming, right? Why are you changing eyes. your mind now that we’ve met him?”

Lewis’

Josephine’s lips pressed together. Indeed, she wanted to meet Lewis, but not this Lewis.

Her purpose in coming here was to validate Seth’s statement and … to witness Lewis’ change.

Seth removed his sleeve from her grasp and said, “Alright. Stay here and keep him company. If you leave with me, someone will rip my tongue off in vexation.” Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.

He subtly mocked what happened yesterday and was sarcastic about Lewis’ audacity.

Lewis had said nothing from the start, enjoying Seth’s performance in silence.

When Seth was done, he left, leaving behind a bewildered Josephine.

Upon seeing that, Conrad left understandingly too, giving them some space.

Josephine pinched the corners of her shirt with her fingers as her arms drooped on both sides. She was silent for several moments before she mustered the courage to look at Lewis.

She looked up to see Lewis staring intently at her, like a wolf locking his eyes on his target, sending chills down Josephine’s spine.

“Come here,” said Lewis abruptly.

Josephine tensed up. Lowering her head, she trudged forward and stood before him.

Lewis looked at her for several seconds before asking, “Have you forgotten what happened yesterday?”

Josephine nodded docilely. According to the date on her phone, that wasn’t all; she had forgotten six to seven years’ worth of memories.

Lewis’ tensed expression gradually relaxed.

He held Josephine’s wrist and pulled her hand toward him. He checked the bandage wrapped around her palm. “Is it painful?”

Josephine nodded and then shook her head.

Lewis patted the space beside him. Josephine hesitated for a couple of seconds before sitting down.

She tilted her head upward slightly and stole glimpses at Lewis’ face.

His mature and sedate face was poles apart from the one in her memory,

However, his appearance softened the effect. Wearing a hospital gown, he looked weary, with strands of hair falling on his forehead. This delicate and vulnerable appearance diminished Josephine’s fear of him.

Lewis asked, “What did Seth Fairchild tell you?”

Josephine was stunned. It was only then she knew that man’s surname was Fairchild. But why was it different from hers?

Lewis gently pinched her chin and lifted her head upward. “What did he say?”

Josephine paused before gesturing, telling Lewis everything Seth told her.

After she finished, Lewis snorted.

Josephine looked at him, puzzled. She didn’t understand his reaction.

Lewis held her cheeks and said gently, “Let the past stay in the past now that you’ve forgotten everything. As for Seth, I’ll let him take advantage for today.”

Josephine’s confusion only grew. What did he mean by that?
