Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change?

Chapter 459

Chapter 459

"Sherilyn."

At the sound, both heads turned in unison.

Striding over with his long legs, Gilbert approached, eschewing a suit for a light cashmere sweater.

His face wore a smile, but his demeanor was distant and cold.

A jolt ran through Sherilyn, and she stood up. "You're here."

"Gilbert." Edgar, supporting his arm, nodded with a smile.

Gilbert lifted his arm, taking Sherilyn's hand and naturally pulling her into his embrace.

He gently touched her face.

In a soft voice, he said, "Got a bit of a scare, didn't you? You, always taking risks without thinking. It's just a watch, an external possession. If it's gone, it's gone. Why chase after it? Let me see, did you get hurt anywhere?"

His tone was intimate, unabashed by the company they kept.

"I'm fine. It's Edgar who got hurt," Sherilyn frowned, uncomfortably turning her face away.

Gilbert's fingers paused, and his gaze darkened a shade.

Wouldn't let him touch her? Because of Edgar?

He withdrew his hand, subtly changing the topic to Edgar, "Tonight, we owe you one. You saved my life! If anything had happened to Sherilyn, what would I have done?"

Edgar forced a smile, somewhat sheepishly, "No need for thanks, Gilbert. Sherilyn and I are friends; I just happened to be there..."

Just then, Charles arrived.

Gilbert waved him over, "This way."

"Mr. Gilbert."

"About time."

Pointing at Edgar, Gilbert instructed Charles, "Mr. Ferguson is in your care. He's Sherilyn's lifesaver. Arrange the surgery and the nursing... only the best."

"Yes, Mr. Gilbert."

"Let's go."

After giving his instructions, Gilbert wrapped his arm around Sherilyn, turning to leave.

"What?" Sherilyn was shocked as she was almost yanked out the door, staring at him in disbelief, "Where are we going?"

Gilbert looked at her with a slight smile, his tone light, "Home, where else?"

What? Sherilyn couldn't help but laugh in frustration.

From the moment he arrived at the hospital, she knew he was upset, but she hadn't expected him to do something so absurd!

She tried to pull away, "You can go home if you want, but I won't."

"Not coming with me?"

Gilbert firmly held her, preventing her escape, "What, planning to spend the night here? Pining over your ex-boyfriend, feeling sorry for him?"

Sherilyn felt a tightness in her chest,

her face paling, "Edgar got hurt because of me. He's waiting for surgery. It's only right, morally and emotionally, that I can't just leave at a time like this!"

"Charles is here!"

Gilbert's rebuttal was logical, his eyes narrowing, "I'll ensure he's seen by the best doctors, placed in the best ward, and cared for by the best nurses. Isn't that enough?"

"That's the least you could do!"

Sherilyn managed a strained smile, "Be reasonable, at least let me wait until his surgery is over..."

"Why?" Gilbert glared at her, scoffing.

What? Sherilyn didn't understand; wasn't it obvious?

"Sherilyn."

With a firm grip, he pulled her along. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.

"Let's go! We're going home!"

"I won't!" Sherilyn was furious at his high-handedness.

"Get in!"

Ignoring her resistance, Gilbert pushed her into the car and shut the door.

"Let me out!" Sherilyn tugged at the door, but found it already locked by him. "You..."
