Chapter 37
” Ok ” Shane muttered. Mirah whose brows was still raised was tempted to ask. ” Are you?… ”
” No, I was just curious ” Shane replied, cutting off. Mirah nodded with a smile. ” Would you like anything then ? ” She asked, still retaining that smile but Shane shook his head. ” No, we will be leaving soon ” Shane replied and Mirah nodded, understanding clearly the reason for that.
” Alright then. I shall take my leave ” She said with a small bow and the duo nodded. With that, she made her way away from them and off to the counter. ” So, they rejected you too? ” Mitch suddenly asked with a hint of mockery in her voice as she walked over to Mirah.
Mirah let out a scoff as she sat on a stool before the counter. ” I think you should be focusing more on retaining this job till the end, cause with the look of things, you might get sacked in between ” Mirah shot back, sarcastically.
Mitch let out a scoff and then followed by a mocking laugh. ” You should have said the same thing to your friend earlier. She barely lasted a month and with the look of things, you ain’t lasting too ” Mitch fired back and then walked away with a loud hiss.
” I wish I can strangle her ” Mirah muttered, watching Mitch till she was out of sight. ” But I don’t have time for bit*ches like her ” She completed with a little smile.
” So, what are you going to do now? ” Alec asked Shane whose head was lowered. He was in deep thoughts coupled with confusion.
” I don’t know. But why did she leave anyways? ” He replied with a question, raising his head up.
” You should ask her. I’m also as confused as you are ” Alec replied and Shane let out a sigh, placing his palms on his forehead and holding them tightly like he was having an headache.
” I’m seriously confused ” He muttered. ” You know you could just ask her since you two are a bit close ” Alec urged but he only sighed again.
” I would have loved to, but it seems she’s really bent on not talking to me. She’s only going to keep ignoring my calls ” He muttered. ” Then, you shouldn’t care. It’s fine since she wanna have some space, you should give her some space then ” Alec suggested and Shane sighed again for the umpteenth time.
” You don’t understand, do you?, I can’t.. no matter how much I’ve tried. I was still okay with me seeing her frequently here but now she’s gone. There’s no means of seeing her anymore ” He muttered frustratedly.
” You could go see her in her house you know ” Alec said in form of a tease. ” Come on, that’s impossible. I can’t possibly go there everytime, it’s unprofessional ” He muttered.
” Just confess your feelings to her, assure her that you two could find a way to make it work, who knows she might let down her guard then and also confess her feelings too ” Alec suggested reasonably but Shane’s thoughts were far away from that. He still wasn’t sure if truly he feels a thing for Layla and it would totally be a loss if he truly admits his feelings for Layla, she’s definitely going to reject knowing fully well he had a wife.
That’s the only factor causing a stop to him admitting his feelings for her.
” You sure you don’t wanna try? ” Alec asked again. ” I will be fine ” Shane muttered.

* The Girl’s Apartment *
” He was looking so damn worried. I think you should talk to him.. ” Mirah completed. After some seconds of silence, Mirah turned to Layla with a huff. ” Come on, say something ” She urged. Layla sighed and dropped her pen, she raised her head up to Mirah who was sitting on the bed while she was lying on the floor.
” What am I to say? ” She asked. ” Come on, he’s damn worried. Talk to him, just find a believable lie and give it to him as a reason on why you had left ” Mirah said and Layla sat up properly on the floor.
” Now you’re confusing me, is he worried that I had left? Or ’cause I hadn’t informed him?, Cause all this is weird. I don’t see any reason why he should be worried cause I resigned at my working place ” Layla stated her point.
” You know too well the reason why he’s worried, don’t try to hide it. Don’t deny the fact that you feel the same way he feels… ”
” That’s the point where you’re getting it wrong.. ” Layla cut her off and Mirah’s brows raised slightly.
” How sure are we that he feels a thing for me? ” She asked, tho she’s well aware of the answer, it was all a cover up.
” Come on, you and I know too well. One can read it on his face clearly and there’s no doubt you can too, you’re just trying to avoid it ” Mirah replied earnestly.
Layla had no choice than to give in. She let out a sigh. ” Okay you’re right. It’s just… It doesn’t seem right and we both know it’s not right. He has a wife, he’s a married man. I was just a substitute to begin with. And we’re really different from each other especially our social status. He’s one wealthy man and I’m not, to top that, Brielle.. how do you think she would feel when she finds out her husband feels a thing for her replacement. I don’t want to be a homewrecker, I don’t want to be an obstacle to their marriage life. I don’t want that at all .. ” Layla muttered sadly.
Mirah sighed on seeing her friend’s sad face. ” Alright, we’ll find a way out. Come here ” She muttered, bending low to Layla’s body, she engulfed her into her arms.
** Shane’s Apartment **
” You’re still on this, really? ” Alec asked with a sigh. He planned on spending the night at Shane’s home today. ” She isn’t picking my calls ” He muttered sadly, swinging his phone in his face.
” Come on, I think you should try to talk to her physically then ” Alec suggested. ” Yeah, I should do that tomorrow ” Shane muttered. ” But… Follow my advice first, it might really work out ” Alec said earnestly, hoping his friend would follow his advice and just admit that he really feels a thing for his replacement bride.
” Come on, admit that you feel a thing for her ” Alec suddenly said, urging Shane whole face was written confusion all over. ” I don’t know. It’s just.. Brielle.. I don’t… ”
” Forget about her for now, follow what your heart thinks and wants. You would solve that later on, but now… this is the present. Do what your heart wants ” Alec said to Shane, secretly hoping he would just admit his feelings. Shane sighed, his head was being scrambled with thoughts.
” Do I really feel a thing for her? ” He would ask himself. It’s still confusing and weird on how it happened. He never thought there would be a day when he would be going crazy over his fake bride. He had thought everything would just end as a contract but things wasn’t really going as planned.
His heart is beating for someone else now, someone other than his wife. His heart is beating for his substitute bride, Layla. The girl he had never thought he would pick interest in. The always different, weird and always complaining substitute of his, the girl he had always prayed the contract with her would end soon then, and now that he thought he was going to be free from her, things took a turn.
He has fallen so much for her and no matter how much he try to deny or hide it, it’s still the truth. Should he continue denying the reality or face the reality that he truly feels a thing for his replacement bride.Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
Despite of their social status, he fell for her.. something he had never thought would happen, falling for someone from a low class family. But he has been caught by the web of love. He’s in love with Layla, no doubt.
” You done thinking now? ” Alec suddenly asked, breaking the series of silence that had emerged between the two. Shane let out a huff and then gave up. It’s time to face the reality.
He looked up at Alec and then shut his eyes before finally opening it again. ” I think I’m in love with Layla ” He muttered and Alec raised his brows. ” You think?… ” He asked unbelievably with a scoff and Shane sighed.
” Alright, I’m really in love with Layla ” He finally blurted out the words.
