Chapter 270
Chapter 270
"Cordelia, I've got something to tell you - Edwin's in love."
Before the main course even arrived, Brooklyn shared her misgivings with Cordelia. "I knew he had
feelings for someone else, but I just didn't want to believe it. Yet, my intuition was there."
"Did you catch them in the act?" Cordelia blurted out instinctively.
"Cordelia, I'm heartbroken!" protested Brooklyn, "Can't you take this seriously? If I caught them red-
handed, I would have jumped off a building by now."
"Oh." Cordelia finally showed some seriousness. "So nothing actually happened? Everyone has their
own 'one that got away', right? I still have mine. If it weren't for Logan's accident, we would have been
married by now. Maybe even have a couple of kids. Life is full of twists and turns." NôvelDrama.Org owns all content.
Ronan overheard their conversation. However, Deanna didn't. Her attention was solely focused on the
"Samantha" that Ronan was talking about.
Ronan gave Deanna a small smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "Yeah, tell me more about her,"
Ronan encouraged.
"Don’t even get me started on Samantha. She's restless. I've been casting for a period drama recently
and needed a maid. I had no choice but to let Samantha, fill in. But guess what? She kept stealing my
limelight and even tried to get cozy with the producer. Now, a few producers have been calling her,
offering her roles. With her looks, she’s only fit for playing the villain. I have no idea where she gets her
confidence!" Deanna grumbled.
"So, you two are at odds now?" Ronan asked her.
He wore a smile that seemed distant to Deanna, leaving her puzzled. "Yes."
...
Outside.
Brooklyn kept her head down. "I just found out today. My mom asked me to deliver some food to my
sister, and I happened to see Edwin's phone at the outdoor restaurant. I was curious, so I picked it up.
There was no password. I discovered a contact named 'Cutie Pie.'"
"And?" asked Cordelia, looking puzzled.
Brooklyn's face turned red, unable to finish her sentence. "Get me a bottle of wine!"
Seeing Brooklyn's poor mood, Cordelia ordered a bottle of red for her.
"Vodka!" Brooklyn declared, "The strongest you've got."
"Have you lost your mind?"
"Just do it."
Reluctantly, Cordelia obliged. Brooklyn poured herself shot after shot, changing the subject. "Cordelia,
I've told everyone in the company that you're going to work at Lumos Enterprises!"
"I'm definitely not going. You can't manipulate me with public opinion." Cordelia responded. Ronan had
called Ms. Emily, asking her to start working in January. But that was when Cordelia was planning to
study abroad in the States. There was no way she was going. She was determined to rise from the
ashes. Since everyone was talking about her education, she decided to tackle the problem head-on.
"You're going whether you like it or not!" Brooklyn exclaimed, downing her shot. The vodka burned as it
went down.
"I absolutely refuse! I'm going to study abroad." Cordelia finally revealed her plans. "To tell you the
truth, I've received an offer from UC Davis. I've emailed them to send the paper offer to my advisor. I'm
starting in January. So, I definitely can't work at Lumos Enterprises."
"What about your child? What are you going to do?" Brooklyn lifted her head, looking at Cordelia with
vacant eyes. "How can you be so cold-hearted? Leaving without a second thought, without considering
our feelings. If you leave, I'll be alone. Mr. Evans never smiles. And Edwin... he'll be devastated, do you
understand?"
Cordelia was taken aback, her brows furrowed as she asked Brooklyn, "Who are you talking about?"
