The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 271

Chapter 271

Brooklyn couldn't finish her sentence before tears flooded down her face, as she slumped onto the

table. Cordelia sat there, stupefied, guilt gnawing at her from inside. She didn't try to comfort Brooklyn.

Brooklyn wailed for a while, her hand pounding on the table, "The accounts for Cutie Pie’s Messenger

and cell number both belong to you. The first time he came to the dorm, I noticed the way he looked at

you. When you went abroad, he was reluctant to see you go. He knew you were married, pregnant,

and he just silently admired you. He used me as a tool; every time he saw me, it was to see you. He

went back to Roseville with you...”

Cordelia kept her head low, aimlessly fiddling with her fork.

Perhaps Edwin had named her Cutie Pie because they met at Evergreen Primary School, where

Cordelia helped him fill up his car with gas. They had added each other on Messenger then, and so, he

started calling her Cutie Pie. At that time, he didn't know Cordelia was married.

"You know it's impossible between us." Cordelia said, guilt oozing from her words.

"But nonetheless, his affection was for you. It can't be for anyone else. He might like someone else in

the future, but that someone won't be me. I will always be a stand-in." Brooklyn said, "You should stay."

"Your words make it even harder for me to stay." Cordelia's eyes were blank as she stared at the dish

in front of her. It was one of the few times in her life when she found food unappetizing.

Afterwards, Cordelia and Brooklyn fell into silence. They sat there, immersed in their quiet thoughts.

Earlier, Deanna had heard the crying from outside their private dining room. She told Ronan, "What a

nutcase, crying and laughing like that."

"Isn't she allowed to cry when she's upset?" Ronan's tone carried a hint of reprimand towards Deanna.

"Were you eavesdropping just now?" Deanna asked Ronan, her voice laced with caution.

"No. But unrequited love, resentment, and separation from a loved one, aren't all these worth shedding

tears over?" Ronan's words seemed not to be directed at Deanna. And Deanna, with her level of

understanding, couldn't quite grasp his meaning.

Cordelia called Tristi to tell her they had finished eating and to come back. "Let me take you back to the

dorm?" Cordelia gently patted Brooklyn's face.

Brooklyn had already passed out from the alcohol.

Tristi and Janice managed to get Brooklyn into the car with Janice taking the passenger seat. "It's a

good thing she's with you. If she was with a guy, who knows what could have happened?" Janice

lamented, "Why did the young girl have to drink so much?" Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.

"Perhaps it's because of unrequited love." Cordelia glanced at the unconscious Brooklyn and said

quietly. She suddenly felt that she had grown a lot through Brooklyn's experience.

Kitty had said that Mr. Evans rarely smiled in the company. Brooklyn also mentioned that Mr. Evans

didn't smile anymore. It seemed that after her departure, his smiles indeed became scarce. He used to

smile before, albeit not much. Cordelia pondered, the scales in her heart slowly tipped towards Ronan.

After dropping Brooklyn off at the dorm, their car headed back to Garden Estates. Cordelia was

chatting with Janice in the car and didn't notice a cab that had been following them. When she got

home, Cordelia felt exhausted. After she got back to her room, she heard some noises. She pricked up

her ears, a little scared. She wondered that someone didn't break in, did they?

"Janice, Janice." Cordelia called from her room, being careful about her belly.

"What are you calling for?" A familiar voice responded, and then, someone pushed open the door to

Cordelia's room.

He stood at the entrance of Cordelia's bedroom, wearing a black shirt, looking broad-shouldered and

slim-waisted. His eyebrows were sharp and eyes were bright. He was exceptionally handsome. His

sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, holding a wrench in his hand as if he was busy with something.

His appearance, for some reason, was unexpectedly sexy.

"Is that you?" Cordelia didn't even notice. Her voice had softened, and there was a spark in her eyes.
